    Great video!! I'm an independant machine repair company myself, I'm based in North Carolina. I'm in my 50's and have been doing repair for almost 25 years but I still like watching and learning from other people like yourself. Being self tought it's nice to verify that how I do something is the "correct way" or at least the same as someone else does it. Keep up the great videos!

    Certified HAAS technician here, and this video is invaluable! Thanks for the total breakdown of an old gal, most of the training done now is on modern machines, though they do have some relics too. I can tell you take care of your machines by the things you noted and replaced, love to see it man! Be safe!

    I like these videos. It was pretty detailed in terms of the breakdown of the machine. Would have been great to see estimated parts cost for all the individual components you replaced. So someone considering a machine of this condition could estimate the cost before taking on a project of this nature.

    Thanks Aaron, you just left my shop after repairing my TSC in the mill.
    Looking forward to you aligning the ST30LY next month...thanks for the years of service you have provided.

    I enjoyed hearing the process you use in diagnosing the different issues as well as how to approach things for disassembly, assembly and alignment. Helpful information even if you are not working on a Haas.

    New sub here! I really like this style of video! The only thing that I could think of that might be really cool is before and after jogs (with sound) and a simple test part. I'm sure when you're done, with your attention to detail, these things run great!

    Like the idea, maybe break it into a few video 10-15min long. It would let you slow down and add detail plus the video would feel a little less like drinking from a firehouse :)

    to do a main spindle or a sub-spindle shift adjustment use two dial indicators from casting to moving part, helps a lot to make a parallel shift of few thousands,

    Wow, I had no idea there were machines out there in this rough of a shape! Can you share how long this rebuild process ended up taking and roughly what the cost to the customer was to get it back in good condition?

  • @Petertje94
    @Petertje94 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    34:00 🤣 it's better to have a few left than to be a few short. Nothing is worse that when you are done, a week later you get a call that the machine has an axis overload because there is a bolt in between somewhere.😅

    LUBE LINES SUCK!!! I thought I had my work cut out for me when I was just aligning the sub on a DS30y. I had gotten all the way through the alignment and started putting sheet metal back on. In the process I guess one of the lube lines got slightly bent down and when I jogged the B-axis forward it hooked on the rail and yanked the fitting out of the truck. Of course, it was the front left one on the turret side so I had no way to get to it as it's sandwiched between the rail and the subplate with no way to get a wrench on it. So, off came everything again. Had to jack up the sub and unbolt the truck. Then I was able to slide it off the rail and flip it around. I plugged the stripped hole (from yanking the fitting out) and then used the hole on the opposite end. Luckily they're reversible and have them on both sides. Then I was able to put everything back together again and redo the whole alignment process.
    As for the turret, the subplate makes alignments easier. But it also seems to be the weak point so the turret moves very easily. Probably did it 20+ times while working at that shop. Helps if you make little adjustment blocks with jack screws. We were initially taking them off each time, but ended up just leaving them on as we probably did it every few months.

    hey, i have a st30 standard machine 2011. the chuck side moving cover bolted to the side of the turret rubs a lot on the machine panels. any advise on how to repair? i think the guard is warped since its so thick its very strong

    Why would a 1990 vf3 throw z and x axis amp alarms when the axis are not moving at all and I run the spindle speed up and down . Regen is good (7.5 ohms) amps passed inspection. Im aiming at the vector drive.

      Not yet. If you look on my website, I have a degreaser called Hammerman degreaser. It’s actually a really new product only designed a few years ago by an engineer in California. It’s super eco-friendly and also really tough on grease and easy on your hands and lungs.

    I saw the stone you use about 27 min in. Has it been ground flat and do you have the mate or do you use it right out of the box, cause I only see one?

      Just used it out of the box. I know there is a deep world when it comes to flat stones. I just wanted to knock off the high spots.

    Question- how do you align the OD tool holders to the spindle centreline, on a non y axis st30 lathe? Are you kinda just stuck moving the spindle/saddle/wedge to get it in Center?

    • @cncrepairman
      @cncrepairman  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Move the spindle or wedge. It’s easier with the test bar

    • @CoryE-gv8gm
      @CoryE-gv8gm 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cncrepairman Thanks a bunch for the reply! Thaaat's what I was afraid of haha. I guess with the test bar, you can stick a dial indicator in the end of it, and then dial in a boring bar holder? Or maybe more ideally, a fixture that goes in the OD holder slot on a BOT turret, with a hole put at the center height of a tool (since the boring bar holders have the eccentric cams to adjust as needed)
