As you said, the crop isn't that bad and anyway, who watches youtube videos on 4k? I'm so glad you and a few other youtubers made these videos talking honestly about the g95, I would have made a big mistake, perhaps, otherwise!
Also worth mentioning, the G95/G90 is very similar to Panasonics DSLR video pinnacle GH5, but considerable cheaper. There are only small differences I could find: Size (G90 is lower), screen resolution (G90 is lower) only 1 SD Card Slot, less battery life(G90), 120 vs 180 fpv high speed. But, V-log curve included in the price saves you even more bucks. I´m a GH5 guy and didn´t even know this existed. For video blogging the G90/95 looks like a winner with its audio capabilities, along with the pro video features like scopes and high bitrates already established with the GH-series.
I use a GH5 for work and it has more codec/bitrate options compared to the G95 which are useful if you’re shooting for TV like me. The V-log on the G95 is worthless due to it being 8-bit video. It’s really just marketing to distract from the heavy crop in 4K. Great camera though.

Got the G95 with 12mm 60mm kit lens for $697.99 US a week or so ago. Could not pass it up. It's my first non point and shoot camera so there's a lot to learn!!

Hardly anybody has this camera. Id love to see some vlogging and how it autofocuses too. Ive seen videos where it pulses a lot and others where its quite stable.
I think people were expecting too much so it received a fairly lukewarm reception when it came out. If I still had my G85 I wouldn’t have bothered upgrading to be fair. I think the G85 was and is a very popular camera, so a lot of people are holding onto theirs and waiting for some more significant improvements perhaps in the G100 or what they will call it. I wouldn’t get too excited about the autofocus. As far as I can tell, it isn’t much improved from the G85 in that department. My advice is to use manual focus, which is why I personally don’t consider this camera to be suitable for vlogging if you need fast and accurate continuous af in video. Hope that helps.
WOM BALL It really helps to adjust the responsiveness of the autofocus. I had mine at the highest setting and I found it was terrible but once I honed it in to what worked best it’s actually quite good. I’m hoping to do some videos about my camera in the future.
@@tomedwards81 well I got the g95 it was on sale 997 with kit lense. However g9 is the same price now body only. If I had native lenses already I would have got the g9
@@sdhute I’ve held both the G9 and G95, and the G9 is much bigger and heavier… so unless you don’t care at all about that, I don’t see them as competing with each other.
Hey Tom, good to see you. I’ve been thinking of making a switch from my Canon to Panasonic or Sony. Mainly so I can shoot in 120fps. Although I’m also finding it hard to even pull the camera out with 3 kids now. So have been resorting to my GoPro.
Hey David. I’m really happy with the G95 so far, but you know me - always swapping and changing cameras! We now have four kids so I can totally relate to the challenge of making content for TH-cam. GoPro is a great option for just getting the job done. I actually have a video that I’m going to put out soon about the ultimate GoPro vlogging rig which you might find interesting. There always seems to be more depth to the features than is evident from the Panasonic user guides and seeing it in a video is way better than reading the manual! Cheers.
Hello Can you kindly explain VLOG L? It us a great camera except for few annoying missing stuff: It lacks USB c connectivity for faster charging, Also the battery is ok but can be better 49 for AF is not great Thanks
V-Log L is a ‘lite’ version of their V-Log flat picture profile. It’s supposed to have more dynamic range and flexibility for colour grading. The problem is that the G95 only has 8-bit colour, which is pretty much useless for heavy grading. Check out my later video where I look at the different picture profiles of the camera and you‘ll see how V-Log L falls apart when I grade it. In my opinion it’s really just a marketing gimmick to distract us from the heavy crop when shooting 4K video. Still a great camera, just has its limitations. If you need pro features you’re better off stumbling up the extra cash for something more feature-laden like the GH5.
Just got mine a few days ago. Love it. Very impressed with the image quality and lack of noise.

Agreed trying to determine g85 or g95. Panasonic is extending the factory warranty to 3 years for both. The g95 is almost in gh5 price range.
G85 if you don’t need the headphone jack. I got a good deal on the G95 so I went for it. Have you considered the G9?

I can’t give you an exact figure, but it’s petty good. Better than the Canon M50 for example.

Some people say that lumic is not good at auto focus.
That’s true for video autofocus, yes. I don’t use it.
