I have the same issue with the white patches on my wall after a while. I tried cleaning it with a damp cloth but it always left BRIGHTER white patches.
But I recently found a cheaper 'hack' that worked for me over the last year which may cost a bit to try if you don't really have it. So because I have guitars hanging in my room (I prefer to expose it to the humid air as I play frequently), I invested in a dehumidifier. SOMEHOW, I do not know why, but when I use the water that the dehumidifier extracts from the air to clean my wall with, it completely removes the white marks and 'restores' the dark paint to it's former glory. But it does come back over time (and by over time I mean over the course of 2-3 months) so all I need to do is to wipe it again.
If you have a dehumidifier, do give it a shot with the water. It works for me and hopefully works for you too, it should be cheaper long term compared to getting recoats of paint.

oh my god the ugly white patches on the wall, I hate it so much. I've washed my bedroom walls countless times and I even used alcohol and then diluted vinegar, but it's STILL there.

Actually I share the same philosophy as you regarding less electronics so a home feels like a home, and deliberately went for a key lock. Still loving it! Hardly a hassle at all, coz i keep it in my wallet. So it's as easy as using my wallet

I have encountered similar issue with white patches on my dark wall in my newly renovated house as well. The white patches turned soapy after cleaning with damp cloth. What I did to resolve was repaint the wall with a coat of sealer and 2 coats of Nippon Odourless all in One (washable paint). Never use Nippon Vinilex 5000 since it is not washable, it does not block the white patches from resurfacing.

The white patches on wall may indicate signs of mould. It happened to my unit as well, but after wiping the walls with diluted bleach, it seems to clear up. You might want to try that.

I had white patches on my wall too. I was told by the painter that it was a mould problem. So I had the wall ‘treated’ before I put a coat of sealer n 2 coats of paints

      what was the 'treatment'?
