Nice interview with Jo - for me absolutely best things to bring was non-cotton everyday active clothing (like North Face or Columbia) since it dries so fast after washing.whereas cotton shorts, trousers, jeans take forever to dry.

I can still remember the first time I went to Thailand. I arrived at 6.25 am, I got a flight from UK to Paris then it was direct from there a 12 hour flight. I always remember that heat as you step out of the Airport.

It's funny you mentioned the peanut butter. It reminded me when I was a kid growing up in Bangkok during the mid to late 80's. My American father always complained about how difficult it was to find peanut butter. He often found it to be quite expensive as well. He eventually succeeded in making his very own peanut butter to his liking, which was quite thick and tasty.

I don't know if you go back and read comments on your older posts or not but maybe I can help you a little. Like you, I have a wider foot than most and originally had trouble buying shoes here. I finally found the sporting goods store on Level 2, Central Festival, Beach Rd, Pattaya. They stock New Balance and they usually have a small selection of the half sizes which are the wider ones. I wear a 46 and a half which is very comfortable. I believe that New Balance is the only brand here that does those sizes.

This video was amazingly helpful as someone who's going through the authorization process to come to Thailand on a teaching program. Just curious, why did she come on a tourist visa instead of getting the work visa before she left? I'm working through a placement agency and they don't mess with tourist visas. Also did she have any problems getting her degree authorized?

It's not. But coconut oil in Western retail packaging is. Another thing requiring time and familiarity in order to get around.
The very first thing to do when you arrive in Thailand (after jetlag), is enroll in a good Thai language course, and take it seriously. It pays dividends, socially, culturally, and financially.
      Trust me.

Cool and optimistic lady, if she does not make it, nobody will. Sad for her to arrive in such hard times ( I did not hear her complain about that) , but knowing that she going to teach, that can go really fast, hopefully next month. With about 5 words Thai like swadikrup, kapkumkrap, movement with you hands and body to show respect, will be liked by Thai people very much. Even if they speak English. Such a strong lady will make it, I am sure! I wish Jo all the best and thanks for this impressive vlog. With a lot of information as always!

As to the things you wish you brought in hindsight, for me (and for a lot of other women out there) it would have to be bras cos the vast majority of Thai women are a lot smaller than Western women, and the shops don't cater for us.
