Tank, while I always enjoy the knowledge and experiences you share, I LOVE how honest you are about your growth over the years, especially the alcohol related and the Red story. I teach high school students who feel they have to look perfect, and I can only hope they have more people in their loves who are honest about their growth and stories. Keep up the good work!

Thanks a lot, man! Yeah, at a young age, we REALLY care about our appearances and how others think of us. As we get older, we learn other people don't care as much as we think they do, and it's a lot healthier to just love yourself and grow rather than to try and be what you think everyone else wants you to.

Tank...I played lead guitar on an Japan Tour for an German band called Crossroads back in 87 or 88...I was 16 or 17 years old at that time and I raised an Alkohol Problem at that time! I just got sober at 19 and struggled with Alkohol for almost 30 year's, but still winning! Be strong! Love your videos!

When you started this, my friends and I each threw in 50 bucks and bet on the last three rounds...two of us tied for the lead. Thought about trying to bribe you to throw it in my favor...but I have watched you long enough to realize you actually have integrity, so I won't insult you with an offer.😄 Love your stuff, brother...keep it up. Oh, yeah, everyone of us has your six on the YT and NW horseshit....

Thank you so much for sharing Tank! Questions for next video: Favorite part of the job vs most challenging part? What your day looked like. A good tour vs a bad tour (since i'm super curious who/why the one tour sucked). And I'd love to hear the octoberfest story. We all have stories from when we were young, dumb, and intoxicated. :)

I kind of said I would maybe roadie for a band because I'm a fan but really I haven't much idea what that means.
A video describing the actual job-description would be great. I think they just want a driver with knowledge of pedal board and stage amplification problems who can set up a drum kit and change a string in under 10 seconds whilst selling merchandise.
I'm 58 with diabetes & a right hand with a ring finger that doesn't bend, but its something I would have loved to do in my twenties, maybe I should just apologise, withdraw my offer and stop trying to drink from the rock fountain of youth?

Hey Tank, really digging the content you post. A VERY unique and interesting perspective on reactions and gear breakdowns, not to mention the insight into the industry. Out of curiosity, how does one go about getting into something like merch management or some other part of tour support? I think it is seriously interesting

Honestly, it was just being in the right place at the right time. My first gig ever (doing merch and lighting) was working for a band that my old band had been touring with. When I quit playing music, they hired me on as their crew.

Pat Benatar vs Van Halen that has to be tough, I have been a fan of both since their early days and first albums released in the UK, I have seen Pat Benatar continue when a radio mic failed and was heard over the band still, which is crazy. Dave Lee Roth was a maniac in his early days, when he returned to Van Halen is what I am interested in because in the UK we did not hear that much as they pretty much seemed to play the States and ignore us

Hey Tank! I think I've seen you backstage in Phoenix a few times over the years, you look very familiar. Just found the channel and love it! Question for you:
Red - 2011 or 2012 (dont remember) - Mesa Ampitheater in Mesa, AZ - I was in the front against the barricade on the bass players side and I saw him go into a RAGE when his amp overheated. It was late August in Phoenix, so ya, it was blazing hot. He chucked his amp on the ground after a song, and I saw some poor tech with a tiny fan trying to cool off his amp.
    Was that you?

So wild to hear about your experiences and how bands truly are when theyre not on stage! I guess like david lee roth and no drafts before their show do any of the final 4 bands have quirks/superstitions similar to that before they go on? Cant wait for the final episode

    • @doublelifeatributetothecar2185
      @doublelifeatributetothecar2185 ปีที่แล้ว

Of all the things a band could be persnickety about, shutting off drafts before showtime is pretty sensible. DLR's voice is only so good (although his total performance is world class) and he needed to do all he could to protect it. It's kinda like the brown M&Ms thing. They threw that in to make sure at least someone at the venue had read their contract and riders all the way through. Van Halen did some crazy shit, but when it came time to lay it down live, they did what it took to deliver a killer show every time.

That "veteran tough love" crap is about the only thing I've seen to disagree with you about. That shit is for the birds and is only done by old burnouts that think they're band members. The way to tell you about David Lee Roths draft quirk is..."hey man, make sure everything is closed and locked down before they hit the stage." Starting refusing to work for those crews that were with the same bands 30-40 years. Had my own experiences but I always enjoyed younger newer bands when I was touring. Everyone worked as a team. The old heads are stuck in old habits in my experience and a lot of them are just angry old burnouts.

I would like to hear more about working with Van Halen and specifically with David Lee Roth. I grew up in the same area as them and my brother knew the Van Halen brothers. They always wanted to play at me brothers parties when they were still in the playing at peoples backyard parties, and my brother always said no. So sad!!! After they made it big and David left the band, he had quite a reputation around town. He would show up at small local bars and was very interesting as to how he acted, I'm curious if he was the same before he went solo. I can elaborate more after I hear your answer.

Like imagine if that was someone that was claustrophobic or had ptsd or any kind of disability/ desperately needed to pee.
Like that kind of tough love mentality that lacks enpathy is maybe why the industry isnt always seen as friendly to women working as crew etc.
