Interesting video. The 956 isn't a huge amount slower considering the massive technical gulf between the cars. Not to mention it was built to do this continuously for 24hours, unlike the F1 car.
noob bellof made it in the 20.832 m circuit, lauda 22.835... heidfeld made it in the 24.433 m circuit in 5:57 or 5:58, BMW engineers had estimated that a BMW-Sauber could lap in under 5:15.8
Erm lets get somehing straight, Nick Heidfeld in the BMW Sauber was not going for a lap time and as someone says this 7min plus lap is a demonstration and they estimate the car can do 5:10-5:30 so it pisses all over any group c or any other non F1 car for that matter.
TheChamp 101 lets get something straight, you can't just estimate a laptime up, who's they? Either he makes a lap time or doesn't, even the stupid person knows nothing about racing at all can see that even 2 and half minutes into the lap these two cars only 1-2 seconds apart. greenhell is dangerous for F1s, if he didn't went for laptime, there wasn't a point for him to lap at all. that 956 is a 35 yrs old car, yet still at some corners it made that F1 looked frustratingly terrible.
TheChamp 101 modern F1s pisses nobody, maybe In your wet dream, take 2006 for example, which around years people usually referred as golden era for F1, today's LMP can easily surpass those F1s straight line acceleration, only advantage for F1s is its light weight, and it is also the only reason for its relatively bit faster laptime, due at cornering speed, a modern LMP has higher output per weight, same levels of downforce if not higher, way better aero, better tyres, and each lemans covers whole seasons of F1 in terms of lap length, LMP has same if not higher complexity and technological advancement level, so F1 is light, and its dominant factor to a faster lap time, but if they take stuff like windshield wiper off from those LMPs and shad some hundreds pounds, you will begin to see fancy F1s kiss LMP ass goodbye my friend
Wow, 20 years later and countless millions in research and development to squeak by a 962.. They really were that amazing. I so wish they didn't tear apart and ruin endurance racing. Especially with the state F1 is in now. .
1:25 lower screen, real pace by stefan bellof overtaking
It's cool to see the comparison between the track then and now in real time
