The weird thing about New Nightmare is that the meta aspect is both its biggest strength and biggest weakness. The entire movie is really cool because of those elements, and it allowed for a scarier version of Freddy than we were getting, but the fact that it’s set in reality made it so that actors from the series had to stick around to give Heather exposition at certain times during the movie so they all couldn’t die without throwing off the entire flow and plot, so they felt relatively safe, especially when we had characters like the babysitter who were allowed to be killed off because they weren’t famous people. Also, I think Heather Langenkamp did an excellent job, but I think it would have been cool if more former actors from the franchise were fully realized characters in this, almost like a Dream Warriors in real life type of thing with her as the leader. I just think it would have been more interesting than her son acting weird in scene after scene. Overall it’s an excellent concept with a “pretty good” execution.
New Nightmare is my favorite NOES movie. I thought the scene where Wes tells Heather that she needs to play Nancy one last time made perfect sense. Wes said that in the NOES films, Nancy had been Freddy's greatest adversary, so that in turn made her the gatekeeper, and the only one that could prevent the true Freddy from entering into our world. When Heather argued that that was Nancy, not her, Wes came back by saying that it was her who gave Nancy her strength. I liked it, but that's just me. I know the opinion among Freddy fans is mixed in regards to New Nightmare. Most either love it, or hate it. I did think the stuff at the end in Freddy's world was kind of corny though, especially the scene where Freddy sticks out his tongue, and starts mumbling or whatever you want to call it. It's still my favorite film in the franchise though, and probably always will be. I didn't like it as a kid, but once I got older I could finally appreciate it for the masterpiece it is. My favorite part is at the very end when Heather picks up the script, and there's a message from Wes thanking her for having the guts to play Nancy one last time. It's lame as hell, but I love this franchise so much that I always get a little teary eyed in that moment. It's just such a unique film that I am so thankful was allowed to be made. It really doesn't get the credit that it deserves.
RIP Wes craven for 5 years after you were taken from us you continue to amaze us sadly I still have yet to see the people under the stairs and most of his earlier films including the hills have eyes.
Wes said he didn't think Johnny would do it so he never asked. Later when Johnny heard this he lamented because he would have love to come back. He reminded everyone he did a cameo for Freddy's Dead. He just wasn't asked.
In this film, Freddy is depicted much closer to what Wes Craven had originally intended for the character, much more menacing, much less comical, with an updated attire and appearance. However in 2015, before his death, he would admit he regretted changing his appearance and said: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Which was why he kept Ghostface's mask the same in every Scream movie. The events in this film revolve around Heather Langenkamp having a stalker. In real life, she did have a stalker, and Wes Craven got her permission to weave it into the story. The television show appearance was inspired by a real encounter. According to Wes Craven: "Robert Englund and I did an appearance together on public television in the San Francisco area. It was about whether this kind of movie was bad for children or not. There were parents in the audience and then kids. All the kids leaped to their feet and started chanting, 'Freddy! Freddy! Freddy!' I remember looking at the show host and the parents, and they all looked horrified." In reality, Heather Langenkamp's real husband David LeRoy Anderson is a special effects man, as he is in the film. The film has no opening titles to blur the illusion of whether it's a film, a documentary or something else altogether. In the ending credits, Freddy Krueger is credited as himself, even though Robert Englund reprises the role. The basic premise of the film, Freddy invading the real world and haunting the actors and crew responsible for the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" films, was originally intended to be used for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), inspired by the movie Return to Horror High (1987), but the idea was rejected by the studio at the time. Before making this movie, Wes Craven watched all of the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" films. By the time he was finished, he claimed that he could not follow the storyline at all. He further regards the sequels to be weak compared to his original masterpiece. Robert Englund has said this is his favorite movie of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise along with Freddy's makeup being his favorite look. Wes Craven's daughter Jessica Craven appears as a nurse. David LeRoy Anderson, who is Heather Langenkamp's real-life husband, declined to play himself. Miko Hughes has kept the sewn up Rex dinosaur since filming. Wes Craven had an original copy without the scars. The "bio-engineered" hand and glove that Freddy uses in this film (as opposed to the glove used in the prior films) is actually derived from the artwork of the theatrical poster and video box covers of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). Heather Langenkamp and her real-life special effects artist husband David LeRoy Anderson had a son named Daniel (born 1991), serving as the basis for Heather's family in the film. Tragically, Daniel died in 2018 at the age of 26 as a result of a brain tumor, the same condition that had already taken director Wes Craven's life in 2015. At three appearances, Heather Langenkamp has played the protagonist in the series more times than anyone else. However, none of her appearances have been consecutive. At one hour and 52 minutes, this is the longest film in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise. This is the first and, as of 2022, only movie in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise that doesn't have any opening credits. At around 35 minutes) When Heather Langenkamp vomited in the morgue, she was spitting up a combination of clam chowder and bean soup. The credits call Robert Englund's wife Patrice. In real life, his wife is Nancy Booth. The scene where Freddy tries to swallow Dylan whole, is similar to the scene in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), where the Freddy Snake tried to swallow Kristen whole. After Heather makes the decision to play Nancy, the version of the house she enters has a blue door, like it did in the original. All the other sequels showed the house with a red door. At around one hour and 40 minutes) In the final scene where Dylan stabs Freddy's tongue outside the oven, you can hear the famous Psycho (1960) shower scene music. Freddy's death in this film is similar to his original death when he was burned alive by a group of vigilante parents. This the only Nightmare on Elm Street movie where Freddy does not kill any teenagers. Every character killed in this movie is an adult. Body Count: Four In A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), the movie that Glenn watches on television to try to stay awake is The Evil Dead (1981). In this film, the movie that plays on television is A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).
Jay is all over the place on this movie. Here's the plot. Wes Craven created the Nightmare films to keep a Djinn obsessed with storytelling preoccupied. Having run out of stories and still favoring his Freddy Krueger persona, the DJinn breaks free of his prison using his Freddy form and takes a new design for a test run in reality.
This was the one and only "Nightmare" I saw in theaters. I saw it with my dad and my, then 10 year old cousin... WE LOVED it, all of us, my Dad was in his mid-50's at the time. He later took me to see ICP the next year, because he loved the taste of that horror. I was 12 when "New Nightmare" came out and ICP was much different back then, 1995. That was a GREAT show... Anyway. I love this movie. It's probably right next to the first one, I know that's a cliched response, but this was a precursor to "Scream". The Meta-feel of it... RIGHT UP THERE... BTW... "Ever play skin the cat?"... One of the best lines Freddy ever delivered.
The best movie in the franchise and the entire idea is pure genius. To say it doesn’t make sense to create a fictional version of the real life actors where there is a demon is latched on to a character is “dumb as shit” is like saying it’s dumb as shit to create a character that can haunt you in your dreams. Craven knocked it out of the part with a plot that’s so far ahead of it time, people can’t comprehend its brilliance. The movie comments on the hilarity of making a character that is a child molester a pop culture icon, it asks if these movies are good to show children, it comments on our obsession with monsters while also poking fun at the terrible sequels. This movie is amazing and I’m really surprised by your reactions to it. But to each their own.
When i was a kid i was so looking forward to this movie to come out on vhs. I bought it on release day and absolutley loved this movie. It is right behind the first one
Depp has said he would’ve made a cameo if he had been asked however Craven said he thought Depp would’ve said no due to his stardom so he didn’t want to waste time
Freddy turning into the demon was lame. Wes Craven explaining the situation to Heather and the reveal that he'd already written it, word-for-word, as a script was way too smart-ass. Heather reading Dylan the script didn't make sense ... but I still think this movie is a masterpiece. The meta aspect was original and fresh and I love the way Wes Craven builds the tension throughout the film. The freeway scene was totally awesome. And finally Heather Langenkamp's acting was superb - she deserved an award. This film gets 9/10 from me ...
In a behind the scenes thing, they didn't ask Johnny because they ASSUMED he was too big for them. Johnny is quoted as saying, had they approached him he would have done it because Nightmare 1 was what started his career. He has always been kind and grateful when talking about Nightmare 1.
I loved how they forth walled this movie and reined it back in to the horror. Less campy and silly. Great stuff guys. First, life draining work then some the water painting with my little minions, scary picture for halloween, pumkins and then you guys. Next stranger things and whiskey. Great review guys.
WeWatchedAMovie hahaha I try. As a butcher or as I like calling it a meat whittler. To be Frank(castle) I learned this trade back in high school then with a six year stint as a combat grunt back to being a butcher. Crazy job. But shit people gots ta eat. Thank for the reply. Have a good night yall. Till the next time.
Great review. I really liked New Nightmare. It was like the Last Action Hero of horror films. Awesome reviews of both Jason and Freddy films this month.
Great review guys and i believe the actor who played Rod in the original did make an appearance in the film during the burial scene of Heathers husband.
I love you guys, but come on this is the most intelligent film in the franchise. And it’s probably Wes’s best film. One of my all time favorite horror films. I think you guys don’t fully understand the plot.
Hey HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Question have you ever heard the Tommy Jarvis tapes and there is tapes of Pamela Voorhees. Adam Green did something with the Friday the 13th game and it seems he helped create tapes of Tommy after the final chapter with his psychiatrist and being questioned by the police the tapes are in between the final chapter, the new beginning, Jason Lives, New Blood ,and Jason takes Manhattan. And there are references or Easter eggs to HALLOWEEN (MICHAEL MYERS), Nightmare on elm street (FREDDY KRUEGER), HATCHET(VICTOR CROWLEY), SHOCKER (HORACE PINKER). The Pamela Voorhees tapes are if her being questioned by the police after Jason drowns they both sound pretty good. You probably already have heard them if not I will put the subscription information on here for you all.
Ok, I would say this movie is one of my favorites! I love this movie, I really like when the actors are themself and the characters at the same time. I love the fact that Wes Craven brought Freddy to the real world and that Heather have this kind of aprehension to the movie and Robert Englund's character for all those things she was living with the 'crazy stalker fan'. I think it's a good ending for a franchise, but at the same time leave the door open to make more movies if they want. But to me there's not an ending to Freddy's evil. I think there's always going to exist as long as people keep making movies or remembering him. I think it's the kind of legend that never dies. And to me the ending with the scrip and reading it all over again it's like going back to the beggining. Te effects were pretty amazing probably the technology helped on that. Also loved that they kept the good practical effects too. And the make up was great because he is pure evil, he is some kind of demon, so it made sense. Loved the reference to the first nightmare. And the fact that this entity gets so strong that start to exist and stalk even the actor who plays it in the movie. MAYBE there were some point of the argument not enaugh solids. But to me is one of my favorites because it has Wes Craven's touch and goes back to the first one. THANKS for this review. IT TOOK ME AGES to watch it but as I always say you never dissapoint me, LOVE you and your amazing talent to create this awesome videos, guys. Have a nice week!
Almost Halloween!!! Loved the trench coat/hat and I never knew man would look good in leather pants!!. When Freddy comes out of the bed/He jumps out of the closet "Miss Me"..Scared the shit out of me..One of my favs in the series and I think Johnny Depp wasn't in this one cause Wes didn't think he would come and he didn't ask him
I had the "new nightmare" on vhs , & I remember this was different from other Freddy movies because the plot in this one was , this time , staying awake won't save you ! Yes , it was one of the better ones !
I like this movie too, it's my 4th favourite nightmare ( part 1, part 3, part 2 and this one is my order). But wow do I feel spoiled 2 WWAM videos tonight?!!!! Did someone say WWAMsterbation??? No, well I DID!!!!
A few clunky spots with story and dialogue, but mad props for them basically turning a slasher series into an art house flick. Sure, I kinda wish more actors from the series were in the film, and being killed off, but fuck it. Plus I find it's kinda cool that it was nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award as Best Picture. It's kinda like the Oscars for low budget movies, but seeing a Freddy Krueger flick nominated alongside Pulp Fiction and Bullets Over Broadway is kinda gnarly.
I love New Nightmare definately beats out 4-6 easily, but seing the original script for it I can't help but think how much more amazing it could have been. Wes had some ultra crazy shit in there where he cut off his own eyelids because he didn't want to sleep it sounds mental.
this one was actually my fav when i was really young. I had a 'new nightmare' style freddy mask that i would wear around when i was like 8 or 9 years old. but it was about 4 times as big as my head, so i looked fuckin retarted tryna do my freddy shit BY GOD KING!!! THATS LOOMIS' WALKOUT MUSIC!!!
I don't think this 'New nightmare' was supposed to be a sequel ! I think Mr. Craven made it because , & like you guys have said so many times in past videos , that 'Craven' was tired of people fucking up his baby (movie)!!!
end of passion play crumbling away i'm your source of self destruction veins that pump with fear sucking dark is clear Leading on your death's construction taste me you will see more is all you need dedicated to how i'm killing you come crawling faster obey your master your life burns faster obey your master, master master of puppets i'm pulling your strings twisting your mind and smashing your dreams blinded by me you can't see a thing just call my name cause i'll hear you scream master, master just call my name cause i'll hear you scream master, master
8.0 he is smoking something lol, my opinion I give it a .2. One of the worst movies I have seen, Freddy's dead is a masterpiece compared to whatever you call this film.
"Ever play skin the cat?!" Oh man I love this film but totally have to agree with Mike because it just was implausible lol but hey I still love this film... Got more to add later, AWESOME review guys this is a great one! So disagree about the ending scenery, I think it was fu king fantastic and was completely logical with how Wes described Freddy in the film
I know I’m in the minority but I fucking hate this movie. The meta stuff does not fit with A Nightmare On Elm Street for me. The fact that this pretty much says, all the other movies are just movies, and this movie is the only real movie, puts this dead last for me. At least Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare had some laughs.
As far as the original cast the guy who played bride had a brief cameo at chases funeral you can see him in the back I think to the last Heather, and Johnny Depp my screen interview where he said he thought about putting Johnny Depp in the movie but figured he was way too big he wouldn’t want to do it so he didn’t even ask even though Johnny was in Freddys dead for a second but he found out years later JD said he would have gladly been part 😣😣
Bad film. Freddys claw horrible, makeup horrible. The kid is super annoying, the story is stupid and all the deaths are cheap copies of previous films. Oh, the end is stupid . Love your reviews anyway
The money wasn't there, they said so in Never Sleep Again. There was supposed to be a scene with Freddy as a spider and Robert Englund trapped in his web and another scene with a Freddy-Mobile on the freeway. Love this entry.
"It succeeds in spite of it's stupid ass fucking story!" I'm with you there, Mike!

211of211 Wes Craven's New Nightmare is absolutely brilliant.
Yes! One of the most intelligent scripts ever written on the concept of meta satire.
I love it always have I love my Freddy scary but also have some one liners but for the most part scary and dark
The Freddy in this movie is like IT from Stephen King's "IT".
Saw on another video that wes was afraid to ask depp to make a cameo so he never did and depp said years later that he would have.

'The new nightmare' , how it felt for me , it was like a movie within a movie , if that makes since .

Depp was never asked to be in this. He was up for it. "Wes should have asked"
3:07 Had Me Dying 😂😂😂😂
It's almost Halloween boys... I say GAWDAMN!!!!!!!!!!
You guys rock. Just recently discovered you and subscribed immediately. 80s kid here who lived for these films. Keep up the awesome videos.
Thanks for joining us dude! Let's bask in fuckery together for a long time to come! Not in the sex-like way it sounded though.
Thanks for replying. "Lonnie get your ass away from there!" Loomis fucking rules.
This one was actually brilliant... Everything was intriguing about the plot
This movie was wayyyyyyy ahead of its time
When i was a kid i was so looking forward to this movie to come out on vhs. I bought it on release day and absolutley loved this movie. It is right behind the first one
How'd you spend your weekend? Getting my goddamn WWAM up in me!
Colden Fell There's nothing better
I thought this movie was a little bit weird but this has one of my favourite looks of Freddy Krueger next to Nightmare 1,2 and 3 Freddys
Depp has said he would’ve made a cameo if he had been asked however Craven said he thought Depp would’ve said no due to his stardom so he didn’t want to waste time
The guy who played rod Tina's boyfriend is seen briefly in the funeral scene.
Also what was that sound Mike made at 2:10 like the sound I make when I drop my phone face down be4 I see if the screen had cracked 🤣
Love this movie. Have no problems with the story or of Heather having to play Nancy again. I loved that shit.

This is the second best movie in the franchise after the original. I enjoyed it quite a bit and the meta stuff is fun times.

Thank you dude! Good point too!

Now this is a great horror flick.
I love you guys, but come on this is the most intelligent film in the franchise. And it’s probably Wes’s best film. One of my all time favorite horror films. I think you guys don’t fully understand the plot.

IT TOOK ME AGES to watch it but as I always say you never dissapoint me, LOVE you and your amazing talent to create this awesome videos, guys. Have a nice week!
would you guys ever review the final destination movies some cool death scenes in them
Lol I've always said that Heather showed bad parenting skills since the attitude scene in the beginning lol
Tone it down on the meth Jay haha MY DUDES!
The 4 dislikes on this video hurts my soul.
“ pick a pet for the rugrat bitch”
Almost Halloween!!! Loved the trench coat/hat and I never knew man would look good in leather pants!!. When Freddy comes out of the bed/He jumps out of the closet "Miss Me"..Scared the shit out of me..One of my favs in the series and I think Johnny Depp wasn't in this one cause Wes didn't think he would come and he didn't ask him
I had the "new nightmare" on vhs , & I remember this was different from other Freddy movies because the plot in this one was , this time , staying awake won't save you ! Yes , it was one of the better ones !
I watched this one last night, brought back alot of memories, the 90's were awesome.
"Pick a pet, for the rugrat bitch."
Despite the cheese factor, this is one of my faves in the series.
Bringing Nancy back definitely helped.
I also liked freddys look is my second favorite next to freddys revenge Freddy
I like this movie too, it's my 4th favourite nightmare ( part 1, part 3, part 2 and this one is my order). But wow do I feel spoiled 2 WWAM videos tonight?!!!! Did someone say WWAMsterbation??? No, well I DID!!!!
Mike, you're a hater, this, imo, is the best Freddy movie in the franchise
One of the most brilliant movies in the horror cannon.
Ok. So I've gone through these while cleaning. So, you guys mentioned Unsolved Mysteries and Rogue hair. YOU GUYS PREDICT THE FUTURE
Where do you think the grey stripe came from THE FUTURE
@@WeWatchedAMovie the future? Or are you having freddy dreams? are you trying to bring him back?!
Jay is tew buzzed for this review
How do you not mention the closet scene? "Miss me?"
I too heard the crackles.
The new nightmare freddy claw looked like Pickle Rick
I love New Nightmare definately beats out 4-6 easily, but seing the original script for it I can't help but think how much more amazing it could have been. Wes had some ultra crazy shit in there where he cut off his own eyelids because he didn't want to sleep it sounds mental.
It is the COMPLETE TOMMY JARVIS TAPES FRIDAY THE 13TH GAME. PAMELA VOORHEES TAPES THE FRIDAY THE 13TH GAME they are both on TH-cam.
WWAM, are you guys willing to play Nancy, one last time?
lmao
WWAM -
Thank you for having the guts to play Nancy, one last time.
At last, Freddy is back where he belongs.
Regards,
111.
Do you think Freddy ever wiped with the wrong hand on accident?
Amanda Wyss, Johnny Depp, and Jsu Garcia.
this one was actually my fav when i was really young. I had a 'new nightmare' style freddy mask that i would wear around when i was like 8 or 9 years old. but it was about 4 times as big as my head, so i looked fuckin retarted tryna do my freddy shit
BY GOD KING!!! THATS LOOMIS' WALKOUT MUSIC!!!
You looked like Rob Zombies MM as a kid w that big ass mask on while his sister kept smacking his face, lol.
Awesome love this film!
I don't think this 'New nightmare' was supposed to be a sequel ! I think Mr. Craven made it because , & like you guys have said so many times in past videos , that 'Craven' was tired of people fucking up his baby (movie)!!!
I love New Nightmare!! I think it is a really great movie in my opinion. It is one of my favorite movies in the franchise
When i first saw new nightmare, l was lost throughout the entire movie
I loved this film! I remember sneaking into this movie when I was a kid.
Please do a spoiler review of jigsaw.
Love this one! It had a really good story and got a new beefier bad ass Freddy with leather pants!

8.0 he is smoking something lol, my opinion I give it a .2. One of the worst movies I have seen, Freddy's dead is a masterpiece compared to whatever you call this film.
Lmfao
Cop dad is playing himself.
There were so many filler scenes in this movie! Not a bad movie though, worth watching.
Everybody loves this movie? I thought it sucked. It baffles me as why people think this movie any good. I really don't get it.
Aw gotdamn I'm late ;_;-
"Ever play skin the cat?!" Oh man I love this film but totally have to agree with Mike because it just was implausible lol but hey I still love this film... Got more to add later, AWESOME review guys this is a great one!
So disagree about the ending scenery, I think it was fu king fantastic and was completely logical with how Wes described Freddy in the film
Wow, dude in green shirt missed the point of the story in a big way.
Great review as always. I'll be honest I don't love this film it was just meh for me.
I get how you feel, for sure personally. Except the Freddys Dead part, lol.
Neo 2.0 😅😅😅😅
both these guys are great but the guy on the right clearly steals the show. ;-)
i dont like this one the most
midgy rush You're a moron.
Hey I wasn't a big fan either! Thanks!
@@WeWatchedAMovie the majority loves it, I hate it. Love your channel! Greetings from Argentina
I don't want October to end. I've enjoyed all your videos this month :D
The money wasn't there, they said so in Never Sleep Again. There was supposed to be a scene with Freddy as a spider and Robert Englund trapped in his web and another scene with a Freddy-Mobile on the freeway. Love this entry.
