39:06 I think when Ashley flipped that coin as Fearne, either side was Orym. She used keeping FCG’s coin to cover for not revealing any flip. Fearne cares too much for Orym to let it go another way. Ashley getting the opportunity to flip that coin and her innate understanding of character is incredible and subtle
Fearne would definitely have done that. Ashley on the other hand, I think, needed the coin. From what I have seen she seems like the person who wouldn't want to make that call. Granted it is what she reveals in front of the camera so could be way off.
@27:50 For context, for those who, like me, started on Campaign 2 or later. When this scene happened, Travis (as Grog) immediately flung himself into combat with the dragon, rolled. Smugly called out his 19. Matt responded it was a miss. There was an *abjectly deafening silence* for several seconds. And then Travis (The one who thinks in tactics and numbers, remember) going "Did everyone catch that?" with his mood so fundamentally altered this single moment filled in for what a music track change in a movie would normally accomplish.
I agree with Travis - Matt was _exceptionally_ calm during the big showdown. It really looked like it was all going according to plan. So much so, that I actually thought he more or less planned for a TPK (with escape routes, but no direct win scenario) and had a couple of cards in his back pocket like .... "you all awaken in a dark and moldy dungeon. the doors are locked. there is no food." (or something like that)
my thoughts exactly while watching the episode. Matt's was so on point with Otohan's strategy to keep everybody down to force Imogen to explode, I thought "he is playing with THAT intent, so he must have planned for this" and that gave me a little comfort... but I guess he has learned to trust the players :)
So knowing that on the inside Matt was probably thinking something along the line of "Weeeeee're fucked we're fucked we're fucked we're fucked we're fucked" and that it could've just ENDED there. That's incredible
That's exactly what I thought. The way things were going there were *no* options left, and he wasn't hinting at anything either. So I was basically expecting a "you all wake up on the moon" kind of thing.

Travis's point at about 1:19:00 is really important, that nobody in BH has super high int. VM had Scanlan with a +3 and Percy with a +5, and the M9 was even better with Caleb with +5, Beau with a +4, and Veth with a +3 (and even Fjord and Jester each had +2). The M9 was clearly the statistically smartest party (alongside having 2.5 characters whose skill proficiencies were based in that), but BH really doesn't have a ton.
Okay, I gotta say that waiting until right after Travis says “Then we asked ourselves… what would Laudna want?” And then cutting to the coffin in the middle of the room was just brilliant. This is entertainment.
Matt is an adorable trash robot. I am glad Marisha wants to continue to pursue Laudna's story (BH wouldn't be the same without her), but I am very nervous lol. Also, Imogen is the moon.
I feel like Laudna will end like a shell-shocked veteran, only with enough trauma for TWO lifetimes. It will take a long time for her to be "fun-scary" again, if she even can... but at the same time, I think she needs to be that vulnerable right now. She needs to be seen and comforted by everyone.
Hot take: bringing Laudna back is a really bad idea. First of all it seems she’s keeping this Delilah Briarwood tied to the realm. Even if BH doesn’t know who that is, they ought to know that keeping the dead alive isn’t really a good thing. If they do the right thing, and tell ANYONE from VM that Delilah is involved in this strange symbiotic relationship of undeath, they will agree she should be let go. Beyond that, Laudna would come back probably even more damaged than she was in the first place. Sometimes it’s best to let the dead rest. Finally, IMHO Imogen would have a better character arc actually coping with the loss of her best friend, and having a burning motivation for revenge, than having no consequences come from the encounter with the BBEG Otohan.
I’m in love with Matt’s Trash Bot costume. The way he’s explaining the in-world explanation for the rarity of resurrection 43:15 juxtaposed with his wobbly arms, the tinfoil helmet with tv antenna, and needing to tilt his head back to have his mouth be over the body. 😂😂😂
i don't think anything has completely captured the essence of Critical Role more then four of the cast sitting in silence, mourning the loss of a character in one of the heaviest episodes of the show, while dressed in the best Halloween costumes ever.
Couple's Night on 4-Sided Dive is a wonderful kind of chaos. It's always interesting seeing the dynamic between smaller groups of the cast and these four have a particularly fun vibe together.
I played a Drow Sorceress for 8 years who was a badass and feared by many and her name was Thul, so hearing them speak the name Thul with fear or alarm makes me happy on a personal level.
100% if there is no threat of death then your actions have no consequences. I know it's not for everyone, but I would have no interest playing in a game where the characters can't die. I love that Matt goes to his player's when their characters go down and discuss what They want to happen with their own story. That's a great DM tip for anyone running games.
At the same time, it should never be seen as a punishment either. It should be a new lens to view the story through, not a complete severing of threads.
For those reading subtitles - at 1:07:26 subtitles say "Matt: Ashton didn't really gave consent for it" BUT it should be "Ashton's the only one who really gave consent for it" since he asked Imogen to.
Gosh, Matt looks so good in that robot costume. He seems so comfortable hiding in it as they talk about their game. I mean emotionally comfortable, it looks like a terror on the body. Suffer for fashion.
I was thinking Matt's got to be a nervous wreck this week - bringing VM and Whitestone to the party - and confirmed it's keeping him up at night. Hang in there buddy! We're here for you.
I love that for the superpower, the plant-wilting thing Marisha describes for Laudna is the exact opposite of what happened with plants growing behind Keyleth lmao..
I love the what the fuck is up with that segment its so fun to hear them all just talking about the game and getting excited about things and explaining their thoughts
I thought Imogen’s last name “Temult” was a reference to the word “tumultuous” which is defined as loud, confused, or disorderly. Like the storm in her dreams
So far, we haven't been TPK'd in any of our main campaigns (tho we have in one-shots), but the closest we have come was every PC dying except for 1 (against a Solar and an Adult Red Dracolich). And then the beginning of the next session was that 1 character and their month-long journey to get to a temple where all of us could be revived. It was crazy
LMAO. Travis Willingham would *not* have survived my 7th grade science teacher. He showed Jurassic Park to us IN CLASS on a projector, and one day we came into class and there was just this.... mysterious blue storage bin under his desk. Throughout the period, there would be random thuds and hissing noises coming from it. By the end of the period, we were all terrified, totally distracted from our work and sending it glances every other minute. Eventually though, when there were about 5 mins left, he lugged the thing out and placed it on the front table with a massive 'thud', telling us he had brought a "surprise" from home for us. Droplets of water erupted from the sides as he hefted the bin, and we all held our breaths in suspense. He shoved his hands into the bin, and comes out holding a MASSIVE snapping turtle. I'm talking foot and a half, 20+ lbs kind of deal, hissing and gnashing it's jaws at us. Much like with Jurassic Park, the classroom, which was built in this... underground cavernous space (literally a smial from the hobbit...) with no windows, and was only enclosed with plywood walls that didn't reach the ceiling and a raggedy cortain hanging over the gap that acted as the door, certainly added to the vibe. Unfortunately, though, this was not a one-off event. And I don't even think I had the worse end of the deal. Two years later, when my younger sister had him, he pulled a similar stunt, except instead of a living snapping turtle, he whipped out a dead Snowy Owl. Apparently he had found the thing on a beach hike, and just *had* to show them. It had died by something snapping its neck, so my sister said the thing's head lolled around like a ragdoll as he waved it around to show them all its features and body parts. Oh, and not to mention another incident, where we were doing work and suddenly hear screams coming from a neighboring classroom. (Open concept underground school, remember?) So he leaves us alone and goes to investigate. He comes back a few minutes later, cool as a cucumber, and walks up to the terrarium he kept in class. (I once watched one of his catfish in the aquarium eat and vomit up the same globule of frog's eggs for a full hour, but that's another story...) Casual as you please, he reaches into his jeans pocket and pulls out a live snake. "Yeah," he says, "It escaped and went next door. Nobody noticed until it started climbing up the lava lamp next to a girl's head." No, he did not know how it escaped. And no, we did *not* feels safe. Other highlights include Britney Spears and Cristina Aguilera, bugs he said were so poisonous that they would liquify our organs if we got bit, (They also escaped.) and this gem of a conversation with the man I had during a field study class. "OOOH! Somebody come help me catch this Black Racer [a type of snake, which can grow up to 6 feet long]!" "Is it venomous?" "No, but it bites viciously :D !" You're a real one, Mr. Trull. And also the stuff of Travis Willingham's nightmares.
In retroperspective….. “I don’t want it to turn into an Essek situation, like…. Keyleth is our Taxi” It would in fact be Essek, who was once again turned into a Taxi
Them talking about the near TPK and different encounters made me remember that damn T-Rex they fought where for the entire first half of the fight they were basically messing with it, and then the Rex got one hit in where it suddenly did like 56 damage (and that was already halved because of Caduceus) and everyone at the table had an “oh shit” moment
I do love their talking moment about healing at 37:00 ish, it's a small note, but so important to know for 5e combat. Healing isn't viable as a combat option due to not hurting the enemy it means the enemy gets a free hit with not as much consequence and negates any effect of the heal done. Really like what I am seeing with the OneD&D theories around healing, like giving Bards the innate ability to heal and hopefully buff it up to a point where being a healer feels like it means something in combat not just after it is done.
Healing is usually only good in 5e when it's boosted like Grave cleric tbh. Or like having a pool like The Celestial Warlock/Lay on hands where you can spend it independently without using spell slots can be good too (especially when you can use it as a bonus action at range with celestial warlock). Laura herself is someone that I was so happy to see picking up on this as a Trickster Cleric, because strategical healing is much more important in 5e than healing because someone's low.
Sadly Critical Role has been put on hold until further notice due to Matt being wanted for his destruction of at least three city blocks in the Los Angeles area. Also Sam Riegel is turning into some kind of ARG horror monster, so there's also that.

@@cjbee3839 eh someone is becoming the bbeg either Imogen or laudna.
"apple juice solstice" in the subtitles had me laughing out loud
😆😆😆
auto closed captioning tries it's best XD
that one slayed me lmfao
One of my favourites has been “The Age of Our Condom”
"revivify dice" instead of Ruidus lol
Laura is basically dressed as a minimal effort Jester lol.
If Jester never met the Traveler, had any adventures, and just went to college in Seattle, instead.
@@jexxer So true. Jester, but microbrewery-pilled. Jester if she smoked American Spirits.
"I'm an art school demon"
Oh so you're all of the tiefling characters from C2
I love Marisha's costume so much. She's a like a lizardfolk Elton John.
I got more of a Drag Queen Sleestak vibe. 😁
So like Elton John then.
WAKE UP SHEEPLE
I’m in love with Matt’s Trash Bot costume. The way he’s explaining the in-world explanation for the rarity of resurrection 43:15 juxtaposed with his wobbly arms, the tinfoil helmet with tv antenna, and needing to tilt his head back to have his mouth be over the body. 😂😂😂
i don't think anything has completely captured the essence of Critical Role more then four of the cast sitting in silence, mourning the loss of a character in one of the heaviest episodes of the show, while dressed in the best Halloween costumes ever.
The blood-curdling "make it stop!" at 1:51:18 sends me 😭
NOT matt saying "baka! kawaii-chan!~" in the most adorable robot costume... I love matt so much... he brings so much joy.
Followed by "Desu desu".
He is a weebit
🙂
56:42 😂
Matt’s so cute in his shiny box
I love how the others are all scared and freaking out when playing Five Nights, while Matt's like, "Huh, that was fast. Well, guess I'll try again."
Travis is the seventh tavern keeper and he is a werewolf. I find that ironic.
I feel like I'm missing a reference here.
@@guillermorelobalopez7553 same.
@@guillermorelobalopez7553 some medieval folklore states that a seventh son is more likely to become a werewolf.
Are you Argentinian?
@@nodnarbionking Huh, TIL. Never heard that. (Although I'm aware of at least one fantasy series where "seventh son of a seventh son" is a big thing.)
I love how nonchalant Matt is with that costume. Just has a face that's like "uh huh. uh huh. They'll see. They'll all see."
Couple's Night on 4-Sided Dive is a wonderful kind of chaos. It's always interesting seeing the dynamic between smaller groups of the cast and these four have a particularly fun vibe together.
Matt sitting there trying to discuss lore and gameplay decisions and such as a robot is fantastic.
They pour dunamancy juice onto a tree and accidentally create devil fruits and that's how one piece starts
Or time travel mangoes? I'd risk it
@@rosiecooper8030 Oh my gods, that is an AWESOME callback to the "does a mango perceive time" discussion from the masquerade ball!

I can't stop imagining Chetney putting his wolf denture on when a fight begin and they just fall in the middle of a fight
1:07:09 Travis’ description of Chet’s mind made me think of that U2 album that Apple put on everyone’s iTunes that you couldn’t remove.
I played a Drow Sorceress for 8 years who was a badass and feared by many and her name was Thul, so hearing them speak the name Thul with fear or alarm makes me happy on a personal level.
All I hear is the diety from Everquest
Laura: "I'm an art school demon."
Me: "Yes, I know. Jester."
What If You’re A Tolarian Community College Dropout LOL
I get the feeling Percy would tell Bells Hells to burn the body.
Welll
Their own little Paté was so well made and cute!
Travis' ADHD sleuthing is very relatable. XD
Marisha as "Disco Dinosaur". Laura as "Art School Demon". Travis as "Laser Werewolf". Matt as "Trash Robot".
100% if there is no threat of death then your actions have no consequences. I know it's not for everyone, but I would have no interest playing in a game where the characters can't die. I love that Matt goes to his player's when their characters go down and discuss what They want to happen with their own story. That's a great DM tip for anyone running games.
I mean, there's plenty of non-death consequences for people's actions, but I agree that the possibility makes games more exciting.
At the same time, it should never be seen as a punishment either. It should be a new lens to view the story through, not a complete severing of threads.
Dariax was either based on a robot or Matt himself, confirmed
I've watched many people play FNAF over the years but I think these guys had some of my favorite first reactions 🤣
fr, legit I wish they played longer, their reaction is litterally soo good
1:45:00 The way Laura handles FNAF is definitely EXACTLY how I'd do in that situation. EEP!!!
For those reading subtitles - at 1:07:26 subtitles say "Matt: Ashton didn't really gave consent for it" BUT it should be "Ashton's the only one who really gave consent for it" since he asked Imogen to.
Laudna popping up on Otohan like "I'm hear to talk to you about your extended warranty"
"we've been trying to contact you regarding your crawler's extended warranty"
Absolutely enjoyed the discussion and Travis and Laura getting so terrified 😂
Chetney being the smartest in the group is terrifying
The fucking creepy pasta sam faces holy shit shamelessly got me a couple times
The production was through the roof on this episode and I absolutely loved every second of it
The auto captions reading that there’s an ‘Apple juice solstice’ coming is the parody honey-heist mod one shot I wish to see in the world
Gosh, Matt looks so good in that robot costume.
Matt is so fucking cute in his lil trash bot costume it kills me
The tiny little *ploops* of the laser guns are killing me LMAO
I know Matt's a robot but he also reminds me of the French knights from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and I am cackling
I think it's the hat.
Same here
1:51:00 they made FNaF so much scarier in the VR version
Really funny media character combos:
Imogen and Professor X
Chetney and Wolverine
Laudna and Solomon Grundy
Matt Mercer and the MCU Watcher
So far, we haven't been TPK'd in any of our main campaigns (tho we have in one-shots), but the closest we have come was every PC dying except for 1 (against a Solar and an Adult Red Dracolich). And then the beginning of the next session was that 1 character and their month-long journey to get to a temple where all of us could be revived. It was crazy
The cutest robot ive ever seen (sorry FCG)
And deadliest that ending killed me 😂😂
without the sign, I'd never have guessed! :O
absolutely
The crazy robot arms!
"OOOH! Somebody come help me catch this Black Racer [a type of snake, which can grow up to 6 feet long]!"
"Is it venomous?"
"No, but it bites viciously :D !"
You're a real one, Mr. Trull. And also the stuff of Travis Willingham's nightmares.
matt looks like such a mischievous little kid playing with his robot costume
specially when he does his "shut down robot" and then peeks out again
who ever edited ths episode not only needs a raise but stakes in the company
god travis is the best host, the teeth, the reading the teleprompter with his finger, them changing it, "sure let's make this worse"
Robot Matt is the cutest thing ever
I just can't handle how adorable Matt is in his little shiny box. Too much cute.
"I'm thirsty!"
that's it, that's the entire episode XD
In retroperspective…..
“I don’t want it to turn into an Essek situation, like…. Keyleth is our Taxi”
It would in fact be Essek, who was once again turned into a Taxi
1:29:06
Alright Sam spooked me a bit. Well done editors lol
Matt kinda reminds me of the depressed robot from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
Marvin
Them talking about the near TPK and different encounters made me remember that damn T-Rex they fought where for the entire first half of the fight they were basically messing with it, and then the Rex got one hit in where it suddenly did like 56 damage (and that was already halved because of Caduceus) and everyone at the table had an “oh shit” moment
Half-way in and I fully expect Talisen to rise up out of he coffin by the end of the episode.
@22:53
"I'm thirsty!" Yeets the bottle out of existance
Matt has embraced the cube.
Matt has never been so adorable 😂
Esteros's daily power should be triggering no traps, that way he could live in his own home comfortably
Sadly Critical Role has been put on hold until further notice due to Matt being wanted for his destruction of at least three city blocks in the Los Angeles area.
Also Sam Riegel is turning into some kind of ARG horror monster, so there's also that.
honestly so here for the concept of a critical role ARG.
Reports are coming in that the Power Rangers have the situation under control.
The first jumpscare for Matt's game segment ended up with me throwing my phone in the air and punching myself in the face.
This is why I don't play scary games myself. XD
This made my day. Thanks for sharing, makes me feel a little better about my reaction
For me it was throwing my head back in fright and banging into the wall hard. 😂
@@mineola_ Glad I'm not the only one with huge reactions to jump scares 🤣
