    CH341A is good only for 3.3V and 5V rom chip, if you use it on 1.8V rom chip you'll kill it most likely.
    I use Revelprog which can read/write 1.8V as well 3V and 5V rom chips.
    You can find many adapters here:

      Ch341 is chip that connect usb to eprom or mcu. The programer use mcu (like 8051/atmega). 2.5" work only 5v,the 3.5 work in 12v , but controler 5v. I never seen chip that work on 1.8v only.(ddr2 ram in 1.8v,but not eprom ir rom)

      If you work on hard drives as Erkin does, you might find sometimes spi ROMs that work at 1.8V. Example on Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 (Grenada family) you can find W25Q40BW rom. See datasheet

    How does the pogo pin eeprom reader compare to the clip style one? I assume its better seeing as its the one you use, but can you give us a bit of commentary on how they perform and differ or improve on one design or the other? thanks for all the content as usual!

    • @hddrecoveryservices
      @hddrecoveryservices  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pogo pin needs some practice. But after 4-5 reads you get the hang of it. It's a bit tricky because you have to keep pressure on the chip and then still operate the mouse to press buttons. Some ROM chips don't have header pins, so the clip does not work on those at all. Pogo pins work with both package types as they press into the pad

    Hi Erkin, Thanks for the link on the light!! I've been looking for that item after watching your videos. Dumb question for you. Are you only removing the platters to look for damage knowing you wont be trying to get data off the drive?? I don't see how that tool keeps the platters aligned if you have to put them back in and try and get data. I've seen you on a couple of videos doing that and I keep wondering if your just showing the platters are scratched and that's all. Jerry

    • @hddrecoveryservices
      @hddrecoveryservices  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jerry, we line them back by edge notches. Inspection light shows what sort of damage we are dealing with. In this specific case only 2 out of 12 surfaces look potentially accessible. If client is willing to spend money for what looks like 1/6th of available sectors, then we will attempt partial recovery.

    I read somewhere that Hitachi/HGST drives are the most reliable. I think the source was Google, which uses vast numbers of drives in its data centres, and so has extensive statistics on failure rates.
    Although no drive has a zero percent failure rate, but if I remember correctly the Hitachi/HGST was significantly lower than any other manufacturer.
    This is quite amusing, for those who remember that Hitachi inherited IBM's HDD division, makers of the infamous "Deathstar" drives. Hitachi even kept the name "Deskstar", which I thought was an odd decision. Ironic that their drives should eventually become the most reliable.

      I have SeaGate 7200.12 1TB 3.5 inch SATA 3 GB/s internal 2011.
      The problem is there was a burned chip on the PCB. During that time this HD have warranty but my data is more important so I forget sending it to SeaGate to be replaced. Do you have a PCB for this drive so my data recovery will be easier and cheaper.
      SN: 5VP7BQTE
      Model: ST31000528AS
      PN: 9SL154-303
      Firmware: CC46
      Data Code: 11243
      Site Code: WU
      They said before that if you will find a new PCB for your HD its manufacturing date of that PCB coming from another HD should be close to the manufacturing date of your HD for it to work.
      The story of this HD was I was using a low quality China Disk Enclosure. When the enclosure stop reading my drive I thought my drive was broken but it was my enclosure. I have two enclosures back then and never thought of removing this HD and testing it to my other enclosure. I forced the enclosure to read my HD until it burned the chip of the PCB. Then I tried it in my PC and another enclosure the drive cannot be read.

    • @hddrecoveryservices
      @hddrecoveryservices  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the lid is sealed with a silicone gasket. That gasket is exposed on the outside perimeter, so when the drive gets "cracked" open some of that debris lands inside. clean compressed air takes care of it, and it's loose. Debris from platter damage is a different story since the surface is magnetic so it sticks.

    Hello Sir, I have a FANTOM DRIVES TFD500U16 external harddrive. The power switch does not click to either on or off position anymore but is loose and does not latch to the on or off position. The external harddrive files began not being accessible at times and eventually stopped coming on. I took out the harddrive out of the enclosure. The drive does power on and spin up but seems to stop working and when it continues to spin, I get a driver not found message when I connect it to SATA to USB cable. Can the files be accessible without the harddrive being connected to the pcb board in the enclosure that it was connected to?

      I cant agree enough.
      Bought as 8TB Seagate external.
      It failed within 1.5months
      Replaced it with a WD.
      Still running after 2 years

      @@IIGrayfoxII , OK, but I had had three WD's and two have lost partition tables with no reason, the third started to be slow and ticking, basically impossible to recover the data in a time. Never ever to buy something from the WD. The best hard drives were from the IBM , but that was once upon a time.

    Seagate still does this. They also offer x amount of years for free data recovery. Hmm when an HDD maker is offering free data recovery makes me not want to buy their drives.

    I assume with any platter damage, data recovery is usually not worth it as too much data has been compromised.

    • @hddrecoveryservices
      @hddrecoveryservices  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      platter damage cases are hard and time-consuming. It depends on what you mean by "worth it". If client needs data and he accepts then it is worth it. The only the client can determine if it's worth it :)
