Dr. MOHLER you have mentioned that Dr.James Boice is a theologiam and friend you enjoy. As the inheritors of his scholasticism. We now under attack within our Presbytery of the Wole Church movement which borrows irresponsibly from Critical Race Theory. I am a Marriage amd Family Therapisr in Philly who listened to Peter Berger's lectures at Gordon -Conwell T g ecological Seminary. This idea of Developmemtal instead of Bias model is excellent way if addressing things. This is fantastic! THIS IS tge best guest ever. This is even better them the Hoover institute.

Any interview with Glenn Loury is going to be good.
And since this follows closely on the heels of an interview with James Lindsay, I think good things are in store.
    Here's praying.

Yes, yes, and YES. Bottom line is personal responsibility. I remember another professor who held a doctorate who teaches at Boston College (who also happens to be black as well) say when speaking on the wrongs done to the black Americans who were enslaved, that in the history of civilization there has never been a people group demographic that has gained and been able to achieve as much as the black Americans have in the time frame we see here.

Amazing comment @5:20. “It’s important that we do NOT see our mission as contributing to social capital as it takes away our focus from the Gospel”. WHAT? Social capital is merely the secular word for disciple. The whole Bible sees character, skill development, work ethic,... as the disciplines of Discipleship. This is the worst example of the idol of pietism (the heresy that the psycho-spiritual is the exclusive concern of theology). The reformed tradition that maintains “All of scripture for all of life “ is critical !

Dr. Loury, this all sounds well, and though I might agree with most said here, yet I have to say how I'm continually surprised when talking about this subject, hardly ever is the trauma blacks suffered in the long history as possibly being a major root cause of the visible problems that are overwhelming the black community today. In conversation with a number of white friends over the years, I found a great lack of up-close knowledge and even some denial in understanding how deep some of the unjust actions people in power have done to create this trauma, no matter what their educational or religious background. So to simply answer these questions on just an intellectual level, I feel it allows many people looking for relief, off the hook. Not that any should put a burden of blame, but to have them simply look accurately at the record. Trauma that is not recognized truly will be passed down to the next generation. Maybe we should talk more about that. The question to be asked, those that have been traumatized, do they know they're traumatized?

    • @edwardstewart4430

@Tim H Comparing who's trauma is greater misses the point completely. If a soldier returns from war and suffers from PTSD, do we need to compare his trauma to other soldiers from different wars to determine if he will receive treatment? We need to stop comparing who's trauma is greater and treat the problem. Blame is not the point here.

Edward did you miss their piece on subsidiarity? Problems fixed at the lowest level breed success and social capital that pays dividends for the people and the society as a whole. Homes with no father should be handled by teaching young boys and girls how important this is. If we allow them to believe that their personal response to this fact is irrelevant because of historical prejudice, we are doing our youth and our society a disservice.

What trauma does an eight year old so called "black" child living in Chicago suffer from structural racism that leads to the despairity in reading?
The only trauma at that point is dealt out from their piers and family.

    • @edwardstewart4430

      @@martenscs What Is Trauma?
Trauma is the experience of severe psychological distress following any terrible or life-threatening event. Sufferers may develop emotional disturbances such as extreme anxiety, anger, sadness, survivor’s guilt, or PTSD. They may experience ongoing problems with sleep or physical pain, encounter turbulence in their personal and professional relationships, and feel a diminished sense of self-worth due to the overwhelming amount of stress. I think you are correct to ask the question how structural racism leads to despairty in many areas of kids that not only live in cities of Chicago, but any place that past trauma has accured If your really interested in how trauma can be pasted down through many generations, and cause present day problems. Maybe talking to professionals like a social worker or christian therapist who work with children might be helpful . A lot of people don't know that some of their behavior is based on someones else,s trauma that came before them. Sometimes it's good to get to the root cause, so people can break the chain of passing it on.

@@edwardstewart4430 Trust me...I know this argument. Its racist and removes all agency and accountability from individuals. It is also completely false. Your argument would mean that the so called "black:" community post slavery would have been less successful that the so called "black" community today. That is factually wrong. The so called "black" community thrived in segregation more than it does today.
Single parent homes is these communities is the problem and coddling poor decision making doesn't help.

I get the point to promote the Christian family values and having two parents at home and I am for that. But what seems to get lost in this narrative is the reason why there is a so-called dysfunctional family at fault for the cause of being poor. That does not register with me because there are some other non-Black people doing cutting schools and being highly unsuccessful and they were supposedly not discriminated because they were or are not Black? All the premises don't add up to that. I think there is a self fulfilling prophecy among people to be biased by others. I think in terms of family, the issue that slaves were separated inhumanly for profit was a crime against humanity. That are the post- generational comsequences. Tell that to the Black communities so they will wake up and prove otherwise! It is happening and yes in Cburches but you can't try to catch someone's trust that has been beated by history in the name of God only.
