I took your advice and told a hiring manager that I would work for free when he pointed out that I had zero experience. (I sensed a rejection in the horizon and I had to save my self. )I said he would get back to me. Called non stop, emailed countless times. He eventually gave in and said I could work for free. I was very happy. Guess what, on my first day at the job he gave me an offer letter with hourly rates and some perks. True story. I would have mentioned the company here but I don’t know how he would feel. On my day , I was in fantasy land. It felt good to see the hard copies of materials I have heard and read about.

@Emperor Kuzco Great, I work in Nephrology. So pick your poison first😊 Just like medical careers research differs from one specialty to the next so does research. I am in human study trials. I enter alot of data entry into EDC and evaluate subjects for screening into studies. Majority of my job is following the subject steps in the protocol. Making sure it's followed thoroughly. So it's alot of subject management, documentation and independent work. Studies with animal subjects have you do alot of general animal upkeep . Regardless, of what type of research you go into as a coordinator just know they will be VERY transparent with your requirements. The PI and CRA are really serious when about new comers being ready to take on the work and learn as you go. It's a process for sure but it's fulfilling!

@Natalie it’s been months since this comment, but can I ask you about what you included in your resume that you think helped you apart from your bio degree?
I have a bio degree, but no experience same as you.
And how was the interview? Was there anything that stood out to you about it?

    Hey Dan,
Great video and tips. I came across your page some time ago and ended up here again almost 1 year later. What about for someone who has a BA in psychology and years of volunteer experience at hospitals like UCLA and Kaiser, hospice volunteer work, and volunteering at a homeless shelter? Would you be able to just go on indeed or monster and look up CRC jobs without having to say hey I'll work for free or suggest you can develop their social media page (I don't have experience with web design, SEO, or social media mgmt).
I know that typically a CRC position requires a bachelor's degree or would prefer that and they start around 50-55 k a year as you mentioned in other videos. My goal would be the easier barrier to entry at a small-medium sized company as you said (better pay and benefits) work there for a couple of years or 3 years as a CRC and then apply to a CRA position. My ultimate goal is to hit the 150k salary as soon as possible while learning as much as possible without going the ABSN nursing route and then applying to the CRA position. Thoughts/feedback/suggestions?
I would appreciate your input,. Thank you!

I want to start in research, I am an MD from abroad, MA, and Phlebotomist in the USA. But I am really lost in the process, I applied to a site where they need CR assistants and the guy that interviewed me told me I am overqualified, meaning he doesn't want me there. I explained my plan and why I wanted to start from the bottom but nothing...

    • @dansfera
