Love the video. Had been waiting for a solid review of this lens. Have an a6400 and was wanting to upgrade my original stock 55-210mm zoom lens. Originally looking at the Sony 70-350 as I do definitely enjoy getting into nature photography and felt the severe limits of my old lens. While I do like that extra 50 mm zoom on the 350. The fact of not having to change lens on the 18-300 sounds like a dream especially with family and travel. I'm already used to shooting on stock lens with similar apertures, but besides the freedom, this sounds like significantly better quality than what I'm working with. Thanks again.
Agreed, I also don't mind sacrificing 50mm on the tele end to have 18mm on the wide end. This lens is also a bit less expensive than the 70-350 so I'm thinking on replacing my 55-210 as well.
I find that the Tamron 18-300 is better for a general purpose lens than the Sony 70-350, I use my 70-350 only when I need the extra 50mm reach. Prior to the introduction of the Tamron, I used the Sony 18-200, which is quite capable, but I have to change lenses when the 200mm is indequate.
Great review again Jake! I was able to take the lens for a 10 day trip to Iceland and echo your thoughts and findings. I used both the a6600 and the ZV-e10 with great results. It was so nice that not having to change lenses saved a lot of time cleaning sensors! I didn't know turning off the stabilization would get it out of the cropped mode. Thanks again. I see myself using the lens a lot next year in Alaska.
Hey! Glad i found you as you have both the a6600 and the ZV E 10. which one do you think offers better stabilization with this lens in photos and videos? I don't mind the crop on zv though so apart from that?? Hope you answer. Thanks, in advance!!
Great Review! I am a long time Sony user, I recently purchased the Sony A7RIV and the Tamron 18-300mm lens. I am extremely satisfied with the crop equivalent of 27-450 that this lens provides especially since the camera gives 26 mp with the crop. This combination of camera and lens provides a fantastic one lens travel camera kit that is relatively light. The full frame 61MP devotees (fanatics) really don’t understand the great flexibility and quality of this combo. Having owned the A7RII and since I have the A6000 and have used the RX10IV for along time, I find that the advanced features of the A7RIV and the overall sharpness of the 18-300mm really give you an opportunity to create great images and provide advantages over other camera & lens combinations during traveling.

Excellent review. I recently bought the new Sony A6700 and paired it with Sony's 70-350mm lens. While Sony's lens is excellent, I returned it after trying the Tamron 18-300, which I prefer for its comparable image quality and ability to shoot from 18-300 mm. I'm pairing it with a Sigma 10-18 mm lens to cover the entire range I'm interested in.
I have this combo myself. I've paired with with a 75mm 1.2 Viltrox prime and I think it gives me everything I need. However instead of sending it back, I'm considering getting the sony 70-350mm and keep the tamron 17-70. that would of course be more expensive but many say the sony would be the better lens and that the combo of these two would be nice. Now im thinking if this is worth 700€. what would you recommend?
Im considering to buy this lens. Its going to be my first telephoto. I have an a6400 with the kit lens 16-50. I like lanscape and animal photograpy. And Im between the sony 18-135 and this tamron 18-300. Which one could be better for my camera? Thanks!
Great review! Recently picked up a used a6500 with a zeiss 16-70 lens and now I am looking at getting a telephoto lens and I am wondering how this lens compares to the tamron 70-300. Which one do you think is the better option at mainly the telephoto range?
well the 70-300 is for full frame so it is quite a bit larger and it lacks the vibration compensation the 18-300 has which makes a pretty big difference. I would say image quality is pretty comparable with a slight edge going to the 70-300 but its very slight
I own Sony A6600 camera and am trying to decide between Tamron 28-200 and Tamron 18-300. I need a lens for travel and outdoor shots. I need a fast auto focus. Any recommendations between two?
Hey Jake can you please suggest which is better telephoto zoom lens specially for videography Tamron 18 - 300 or Tamron 70 - 300 with Sony ZV e 10 ? I just want telephoto zoom lens ( autofocus, sharpness, clarity etc. )..
well the 70-300 is for full frame so it is quite a bit larger and it lacks the vibration compensation the 18-300 has which makes a pretty big difference. I would say image quality is pretty comparable with a slight edge going to the 70-300 but its very slight in this case for video I would definitely go with the 18-300 due to the vibration compensation
Hi there, thanks for the great review! I recently got a full-frame camera (Sony a7c) and am looking for an all-in-one lens just like this one to travel with. Is this one compatible with full-frame? Or is there a full-frame equivalent that you recommend? Thanks a bunch!!
I wonder what this could do regarding astrophotography.....I'm looking for something I can do wide Milky Way shots and then zoom in on some deep space targets. Instead of running around with 2/3 different lenses.
it could definitely work for it, the trouble you would run into is getting enough light to the sensor and keeping your shutter speed short enough to not blur stars as you zoom in
Great review; surprised no one else is reviewing it! I just got it for my zv-e10, but have had some focus issues with my dog running around. Usually one of a burst of 10 shots will be properly focused. What autofocus mode/focus area were you using for the birds? Sounds like a super zoom may just not be the right tool for telephoto action though :(
I think it will be great with my sony a6400 for outdoor sports in daylight. Indoor sports I don't think it's gonna work well even though sony a6400 has a good high iso performance
Awesome review. How would you rate it for video? The other question is do you use it with ND filters for video during the day and which one would you recommend (I shoot between 09:00 and 16:00 in bright sunlight to give you an idea). How would this compare to the Sony 18-135 for APSC (I have the a6600).
@@JakeSloan Thanks, Jake, one further query......does that mean I have to set my Sony Full frame to crop mode to use this lens? Great video , by the way. Thanks.
Can you use this lens with full frame body show wide and zoom results bro. I am planning to buy this all in one lens full frame body Sony a9 camera. Can you give your valuable feedback. Thank you.
Do you think is it worth the price difference to get the 70-350? There's much difference about focus and stability? I know is 6.3 at 350mm focal length. Great review!
Jake: Excellent review, thanks. Which lens would you say is better for run and gun video on an A7c, this lens in apsc mode because of its VC stabilization, or the 28-200? I know this one would provide a longer maximum focal length, but is the VC worth it? I dont have a problem shooting apsc video out doors. Im interested in the one that would provide the smoothest video racked out on the long end. Thanks!
@@JakeSloan Thanks Jake. I'm primarily interested in video and I've never seen much difference in good light between FF and APSC 4K. On the other hand, I've noticed a whole lot of difference in the steadiness of the footage at the longer lengths when the lens has some form of OSS or VC compared to one that doesn't. Still deliberating:-)
I mean its outdoor lens. You should not film indoors with this (unless you have strong lights, which is probably isn't the case if you buy all in one (since its cheaper and too comfortable)). This lens reminds me all in one camera with power zoom i used back in 2016, but I think it was even more zoomy 28-750mm, but it was crap at 750 ngl

you would have to build a lens profile for every focal length you use and film with stabilization off for the best results
Im considering to buy this lens. Its going to be my first telephoto. I have an a6400 with the kit lens 16-50. I like lanscape and animal photograpy. And Im between the sony 18-135 and this tamron 18-300.
Which one could be better for my camera?
Thanks!
definitely get the 18-300 if you plan to do wildlife
For the a6600 I would definitely go for the 18-300. With the vibration compensation it really helps a lot.
@@JakeSloan Thank You
Hey Jake can you please suggest which is better telephoto zoom lens specially for videography Tamron 18 - 300 or Tamron 70 - 300 with Sony ZV e 10 ? I just want telephoto zoom lens ( autofocus, sharpness, clarity etc. )..
well the 70-300 is for full frame so it is quite a bit larger and it lacks the vibration compensation the 18-300 has which makes a pretty big difference. I would say image quality is pretty comparable with a slight edge going to the 70-300 but its very slight in this case for video I would definitely go with the 18-300 due to the vibration compensation
@@JakeSloan Okay... Thank you so much Jake ..
Others mentioned the zoom ring smoothed out over time.
Yeah I think mine has a bit now too
Hi there, thanks for the great review! I recently got a full-frame camera (Sony a7c) and am looking for an all-in-one lens just like this one to travel with. Is this one compatible with full-frame? Or is there a full-frame equivalent that you recommend? Thanks a bunch!!
This one is not. Look at the Tamron 28-200 for what you need
Awesome video!!!!!!!!!!!!! Soooo let me know if you ever put it for sell, I’ll be happy to take it off your hands lol :-)
LOL will do but I don't think I get to keep this one...
Does tamron 18-300 work for sony m4 full frame body
yes but it is an APSC lens so you won't get the whole sensor
Is the lens compatible with the Sony A5000?
Yes it is
does it work with full frame camera???
it will on sony full frame but you will need to put the camera in APSC mode
Will work for the a6000? Thinking in getting it but not so sure about it yet.
yep will work great for the a6000
I wonder what this could do regarding astrophotography.....I'm looking for something I can do wide Milky Way shots and then zoom in on some deep space targets. Instead of running around with 2/3 different lenses.
it could definitely work for it, the trouble you would run into is getting enough light to the sensor and keeping your shutter speed short enough to not blur stars as you zoom in
@@JakeSloan I got a star tracker so the f stop really isn't that important.
Will this fit in a A7iii
It will but only using APSC mode. Look at the 28-200 from tamron instead
Great review; surprised no one else is reviewing it! I just got it for my zv-e10, but have had some focus issues with my dog running around. Usually one of a burst of 10 shots will be properly focused. What autofocus mode/focus area were you using for the birds? Sounds like a super zoom may just not be the right tool for telephoto action though :(
I usually use center focus for shots like that gives the camera less to look for lol
i was so excited when i discoverd this lens, so sad it's APS-C & not full frame. what a heart breaking rollercoaster of emotions! xD
lol sorry not sorry
I think it will be great with my sony a6400 for outdoor sports in daylight. Indoor sports I don't think it's gonna work well even though sony a6400 has a good high iso performance
Yeah you are probably right
Awesome review. How would you rate it for video? The other question is do you use it with ND filters for video during the day and which one would you recommend (I shoot between 09:00 and 16:00 in bright sunlight to give you an idea). How would this compare to the Sony 18-135 for APSC (I have the a6600).
Thank you, I usually just use my Freewell variable ND 2-5 stop
Helpful video thanks. Great shots! Just had ZV-E10 arrive today. Considering between this and Sony 18-135mm.

Awesome
Very good :)
It is a pity that the anti-vibration can not be removed via a switch
Agreed! Maybe in version 2
Full frame?
APSC
Super, hi from Russia!)
hello!
Thank, i always look for your(real world) & Dustin Abbots(studio) review
Glad you like them!
Does this lens function with a full frame Sony? Does it give 18-300 ?
On a sony full Frame it will crop in and you will get the same field of view as a 27mm-450mm lens
@@JakeSloan Thanks, Jake, one further query......does that mean I have to set my Sony Full frame to crop mode to use this lens? Great video , by the way. Thanks.
exactly right, it might be set to do it automatically but you will need to use crop mode to avoid vignetting! Cheers
Can you use this lens with full frame body show wide and zoom results bro. I am planning to buy this all in one lens full frame body Sony a9 camera. Can you give your valuable feedback. Thank you.
Great job jake Air2 s army out
Cheers Mike!
좋은 영상 잘 보고 갑니다~! 감사합니다!
Cheers
Do you think is it worth the price difference to get the 70-350? There's much difference about focus and stability? I know is 6.3 at 350mm focal length.
Great review!
If you have a lens that covers the 18-70 then sure but this lens is a solid performer
What camera is that there?
This is the Sony vz-e10
Jake: Excellent review, thanks. Which lens would you say is better for run and gun video on an A7c, this lens in apsc mode because of its VC stabilization, or the 28-200? I know this one would provide a longer maximum focal length, but is the VC worth it? I dont have a problem shooting apsc video out doors. Im interested in the one that would provide the smoothest video racked out on the long end. Thanks!
I would stick with the 28-200 so you get the full resolution of your sensor.
Tripods lots of tripods! That's how you made the video 😂
Sooo many tripods!!!
what type sony did u use, full frame APS-c
for this was APSC
I mean its outdoor lens. You should not film indoors with this (unless you have strong lights, which is probably isn't the case if you buy all in one (since its cheaper and too comfortable)). This lens reminds me all in one camera with power zoom i used back in 2016, but I think it was even more zoomy 28-750mm, but it was crap at 750 ngl
Wow
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you
Hi

I love youly photographer and photos🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

zve10 sucks, its an a6400 without the evf price wise
