I've kept a spreadsheet of my monthly expenses since I started living on my own when I turned 18, I buy most of the same stuff every month (beef, pork, chicken, bread, yogurt etc). That was 14 years ago, prices have climbed and fallen in that time, but these last 3.5 years, when I graph it out, my food expenses are 80% higher despite switching to generic brands and buying lower quality cuts of meat and forgoing snack foods such as chips and cookies.
Went to the store last week, bought a small pack of corn tortillas, a gallon of milk, and a bag of cheese. Receipt was over $20. It is INSANE.
