I have been to Ubon Ratchathani three times (I live a couple hours away). Like most unplanned cities in Isaan, it's sad these wooden buildings and the 1960-70ish concrete 3 story shop buildings are not taken care of. -Just make them uglier by putting up those huge vinyl signs of all sizes in front of the facade of the shops. Side walks are not for pedestrians but for shops to display their goods on; for vendors to sell food or drink; or for shop owners to park on. The city does have a nice city park they can be proud of.
