I know I am late but pavan bhat a lot of smart people from non English medium school appear in exams like JEE, JAM and NET/GATE. Not only they appear they qualify too... Even during interview for Ph.D faculty members focus on their knowledge not English... So yes they would pretty much want to take him with this IF he knows his subject well :)
