    Nice build! If I was to upgrade our 77 Scout, an LS would be a no brainer. Our 345 has 52k original miles on it, from CA high desert, 3rd owner. Decided to stay IH but add Hamilton TBI. If an IH guy builds it, I think that makes it IH-approved.

    hater’s won’t understand. they drive import cars.. this is a American thing. nice 👍 truck

    • @davidwoermansr
      @davidwoermansr 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Haters understand they just don't like it but they should like this it gets way better fuel economy than the stock version and just as if not more capable than the stock version the tree huggers are the ones who want everything to go electric so we can have diesel generators everywhere belching black smoke because the DPF and or DEF rules won't apply to the charging systems as a farmer and owner of a fleet of pre emissions trucks ì can tell you we didn't have to add as many chemicals to the ground before all this emissions BS and government juice drinking engines became the normal thing and when we cut firewood along the edges of fields or hauled the 45 to 70 inch diameter oaks and cottonwoods to our sawmill 30 years ago not many trees were hollow now there's so many hollow small trees so when harvest is done while the hired hands wash up and put away the equipment that isn't going to be used for tillage were going to be bringing the big sawmill trees down the firewood will be cut to fit in the former military 5 ton 6x6 a stretched and boxed frame and 22 ft ɓed with 60 inch sides and a 40 ft pintle hitch trailer to load mill logs on unload them first then unhook dump the loads put on the truck in piles we can push up and pick through with the tractor by the buzz saw I'd like to find a way to keep the thorns from rotting off it would be cheaper by far than barb wire along the tops of feedbunks and corrals

    • @davidwoermansr
      @davidwoermansr 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And it's not an American thing go to car shows in Canada Mexico Australia LS swaps are becoming more popular even in 3rd world countries where people buy 5 or 6 junk vehicles to build something reliable and has what they need save the spare parts that wear out and sell the rest to a different scrap yard and if there's an LS to be had guaranteed the person building themselves a new truck will grab that vehicle first

    • @davidwoermansr
      @davidwoermansr 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As opposed to what every LS I've bought sold or traded for a nice piece of automotive history the wiring harness the ECM and PCM along with the fuse boxes inside the captain's compartment and the 1 under the hood but something inside me said KISS when building our nitro methane rock bouncers Keep It Simple Stupid we made our own fusebox and a box with our 2 rows of relays and 2 more to add on additional lights we're thinking about individual tire jacks for each corner just toss a 12x12 1/2 inch plate before cranking down the jack we make it for our hilift faces so we have faith in these just tie wire it to the foot of the jack before applying pressure unless you like digging for a foot that sank in really dry sand or really wet sand ask me how I know we forgot and took turns digging straight down from the jack but the jack started crooked

    Love the warm air intake kinda like flipping the lids on a carburated engine you get that extra sounds like she's getting somewhere fast but like a screaming Detroit it sounds like it's getting there fast till they come in view please tell be you're putting an airbox on that pulls cooler air in from somewhere instead of pulling 180° or better heated air from inside the engine bay

      I'm the opposite I like my longest I built an 83 single wheel 2wd 1 ton (I sold the original box off it for more than I paid for the truck as a roller) my son was on his way to school in my 79 suburban a few months earlier and someone who thought their text message couldn't wait another 5 minutes till in the school parking lot blew a stopsign and horseshoed the suburban so bad I had to go to the welding shop me and all my kids worked at through high school and school breaks even when in votech school so they knew they'd get a good reference if they went to work for a company their schooling was for but I called and asked if I could borrow Bertha she's a monster forklift and I couldn't winch it on we had to pull the wheels and tires to keep it on the 102wide trailer my oldest daughter came and got me in her mommy misle me and my son had drug them to the store parking lot before my daughter got there the store owner took my son to school so he wouldn't be late because on the curvy 1way street even without a trailer ìt was a close call with alot of backing up to squeeze a stretched dually to fit the empty 12 ft bed on its guess if it came down to it I could've went through the demolition derby pit along the bottom of the ditch below the shot put gavilìne throw and discus area in the bottom of the ditch to get him to school in time but I didn't feel like unhooking and rehooking so my sis got there in time to ignore a block of 1way street and pulled up to the handicap parking to get him there on time we loaded the suburban right against the 2 stacks of 37s from it up front and Frank over the axles to return him and I got the deal of a lifetime they were looking for a scrap guy they trusted to be fair with them and they gave me Frank because they no longer needed him since their 2 new telehandlers had just came in Frank was made out of an old combine with duals up front so I went to my friends combine salvage yard and got myself a hydraulic drive rear axle for the rear and instead of short skinny tires front and rear dad had a set of floatation tires that still had well over half tread since they only went on the combine if he found wet spots that didn't dry up enough 4wd didn't walk through them he figured he had more road time on them than field time at dad's auction people with red combined were all that was interested in them we don't know why someone painted yellow over the silver dad even showed them pictures of them on his 1680 axialflow IH combine they were doing choice of front or rear so it would be so much a tire times 2 for the fronts same thing for the rears so people were bidding a buck at a time so instead of bidding 8 bucks I yelled 100 bucks people quit bidding I took all 4 and dad no sales them he told the auctioneer unless people were willing to give 800 a tire on fronts and 600 rears he had a cash offer of that i was bummed till it was getting dark loading people and we went around telling people wed have 2 more tractors and skid loaders and a forklift to help load after everyone was gone i told him those floatation tires bummed me out he told me if id be there to help him unload the truck with panels and help add onto the corrals and unload the tin for his house roof for the contractor to put up and a second truck load of materials to enclose their porch and build a 2 car garage we'd use some of the heavier tubes and metal from equipment he knew wouldn't bring scrap price and built a man lift for Frank and if I unloaded materials and get the porch and garage framed out after using my grader to fix the grade problems to ger the footers poured and floor drains and gutter drains daylighted at the edge of the garden or switched to most going to the flowerbeds alongside the driveway the new porch and garage including floor drains went to the flowerbed arroynd the propane tank we'd pour the floor next to last so the garage door people had solid enough floors to back their truck in and not crack it by the time the contractors were done

    I looked on your website - where's the ad? The perfect truck? One of yours with an LS-series engine & a 700R4 or 4L60 (non-electronic), with a carb intake (which I'm pretty sure doesn't exist). The result? No electronics. You might give up a little power & mpg, but I HATE electronics. In fact, with ThunderHead289's Carb Cheater, I bet you wouldn't give up any mpgs. Keep up the good work!

    Nice work. Also remember the commercials and received the "Free Beef". Been dealing with Les Schwab since at least the 80's. Brakes, tires,shocks, batteries, suspension rebuild, ball joints, on and on. Great thing now; no matter where I am in Oregon driving and hunting, if there is a problem there is one close by.

    A 20mpg (or better) engine swap would be a game changer alright! Would love to have a Scout again (sold my 68 to pay medical bills, damnit). As enjoyable as it is to drive a pure classic car or truck the cost of ownership is a tough nut to deal with. Especially on a tight budget.

    I'm not gonna lie, or apologize; I'm a purist.
    Yeah, I get the arguments, and they're totally valid.
    But can you call it a ___________________ if you change a major component that makes it a _______________?
    In my 20s, my 30s, 40s, 50s, and now my late 60s, I say no. I've never liked hot-rodders that put Chevy engines in their Model As, or what-have-you, and still call it a Ford. I once saw a '54 F1 that had an Oldsmobile big block in it. Really well done. Absolutely admire the craftsmanship. Hate the concept.
    Hell, Karl Fisher has a '36 Zepher 4-door that he's turning it into a 2-door. Karl does some amazing work, and I'm totally down with the creativity, the vision, the technique. Hate that he's taking a super rare car and turning into something it's not, or never was. And I love 2-doors. Most people do.
    And short beds. Lookin' at you, Puddin.
    We're not gonna talk about that ramp truck that he and Half Ass Customs are building. Fully admire the work, but that thing is an abomination.
    Looking beyond my obvious bias against this kind of conversion, really well done. The only thing I saw that I flat didn't like was the cup holders. Love the seats; really innovative. Hate the cup holders.
    And no, you all aren't going to change my mind, so piss off. And stay off my lawn.

      My old scout in high school was the start of my dreams for all my binders and AMC wagoners and Comanches they all started off with carbed 454s turbo 400s and that big heavy chain drive castiron t-case converted to twin stick with a doubler I know I know binders don't need twin sticks with doublers they had a warn winch and they always worked before you left the yard when you tested it but when you really need them they smell like the construction sites Porta potty a late August afternoon following taco tuesday and the majority of the crew having the 3.2 flu with a hint of wet dog I also use to give my binders Lincoln lockers till I could afford grizzlys I'm sure binders didn't need lockers either especially Lincolns but it was all i could afford at the timewe

    So since everything in the world's getting LS swapped does that dropp the price since parts are readable available or like LS swap the nation they think an LS swapped vehicle is worth more in an antique because "it's more reliable so they should bring the new cost of a modern truck the only LS engines I've messed with are those I was pulling out to fund the 454 or 396 I built for my truck and I have put the 5.3 and 6.0 LS in old derbycars with a healthy built turbo 350 in 98 exploders I like the 5.3 but in the modified farm trucks especially my single wheel 1ton farm trucks the ones I use on the farm way before derbying I've taken late 70s early 80s Chevy 3+3 cab and chasìs stretched and boxed the frame to fit a 14 ft utility bed the front drivers box needed modified for dual tank filler necks so I put the face of my welder inside it and silicone sealed it to keep moisture off the dials and modified the tarp to snap to the outside of the box with some weather stripping around it and a little roof over it thad holds ammo cans of small ounces of metal and some bigger pieces up there too behind the welder I cut holes to fit pipemy torch bottles fit in welded them in about 4 inches below the bottom of the box and 6 inches above so the bottles are secure with a small ratchet strap and with modifying the shelves I can hang the lines on the passengers side I have 50 of lead on the bottle and if I ever it I have 50 more feet I can add on pretty quick to remove after the jobs done or just wait till farvest tillage or planting is done to properly put it up I still have just shy of useable bedspace with a vice or an anvil that goes in thereciever hitch and a winch under the bed through the pulley on my ginpoles to assist my crane uf needed and a SAS for the 4x4 then I build a bumper/deer catcher in 1 that I can stand on the bumper between the grill and the deer slayer only thing that's moved it was a black cow at 55 on a slightly foggy night on an unmarked paved County road the farmer gave me new price for a new Thunderstruck bumper with built in grill gaurd I just pulled mine straight enough added some3/8 2 inch straps up 4 sides of the end pipes they're the only ones that aren't old well pipe they're rollcage material so I could do the headlight hoops built in then pulled it off to sandblast and powder coat if it was flat like a truck bumper I'd have probably done what I did with the rest of the truck and rhinolined the entire thing but where it's built like a late 70s GM pointed bumper I'd rather have a deer or cow slide off with little resistance i think powdercoat was the way to go im already the only 1 whose name is on my county's a a neighboring 1s roadkill list so i don't need to hunt out of season with my truck with 3 big chest freezers in my machine shed and a stove rhat plugs in where my welder does (definitely going to have to ĥave ñy electrician friend put in some new outlets including 1 to keep the stove in the same room as the butcher block and chest freezers

    Ben, I really like your videos because you think outside the box (Corn Binders), however everybody is swapping LS engines into everything (Ho Hum, snooze). Many people like the old Binders because they are simple and anyone can work on them they are also dependable look at how long many of them have been on the road plus, you don't need a 12 year old smartass with a computer to tell you what is wrong with them. Another nonreason for the LS is 20 MPG, who in the entire history of Corn Binders ever bought one for economy? Please name one person. If you are trying to get a younger demographic interested in great old trucks then I think you are going down the right road otherwise you will be loosing the interest of the older purists nd they are the ones with money. Let's have some videos about working on the old tried and true machinery.

    It's not a game changer. LS swap is lemming and cliche now. Not bullet-proof either. For a driver it's okay though. Still....it's one of the ugliest engines ever. In today's market it will sell. Next you'll put 22s on it and bags....you know....to be different.
