I think it's one of the most fantastic tunes ever. When not even a first class rock band like DT can make it sound more powerful than Elton John's original. Awesome version though. Thumbs up.
Wow, I have listened to this EP countless times but never realized it was recorded in such a small club. How lucky those fans were. John P and John M look so young in this vid.......1995 was a long time ago. LOL
One excellent tribute to Elton John. John Petrucci and Derek Sherinian are stellar here, and they play off of each other perfectly. Would have loved to see this live.
Not the same version. The audio verson has him singin WAY higher notes everywhere. It's my first time seeing this video, and I was singing the exact ame version as ACOS (which I've been listening to for years), and noticed right off the bat how different it is. Now I feel better, James LaBrie is just a human being like you and me...
Thousands of rehearsals to get it just right, it just kind of becomes second nature to do it again exactly the same way. Kind of like walking.... you don't even think about it when you've been doing it so much.
So this is the live performance from the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club Bar in London back in '95. You know what guys, I wish Barney Greenway should've sang this song as well aside from the Damage Inc. song he did w/ DT.
Me hubiera gustado ver al mismisimo Sir Elton John al piano junto a estos chicos. Para mi es quiza una de las mejores canciones de este artista. Saludos desde Medellin Colombia. Son unos portentos. Simplemente geniales.
With Dereck Sherinian in the keyboard; Cover demo added to the "Change of Seasons Album".... even Dereck recorded the "Change of Seasons" Kevin Moore was already left the notes.. kevin left the band after recorded "Awake" beetween... i dont know if was 1993
Nice!! Never seen this before. I think the difference in sound is that on the ACOS album they used the recordings directly from the mixingboard. And this is a copy of a VHS (which always sounds a bit "wobly" and with just the FOH/live mix) I do think however James dubbed his vocals. Still, awesome to see these recordings.
@@ryanslater674 you know that's a completely normal thing for bands like this right? This is the same exact performance thats on the acos cd, but some vocal parts are different here sooooo...?
Just when you think you know EVERY band a new one pops up and kicks the shit out of you. What year did this band form and where the hell are they from??
>Is the Change of Season's (CD) version? not the same version, but afaik most of ACOS was recorded live, beside first lengthy track, A Change Of Seasons suite , which was done in the studio
This is amazing, when was this recorded? I take it's pretty old for Kevin Moore is still on keyboards, pre-1994 I suppose? Despite the fact John Myung still looks like a kid.
For those grieving Dream Theater, type in, "on the backs of angels dream theater". Dream Theater is far from gone. Mike Mangini looks like he is a more than capable drummer. Looks like Portnoy is going to get more of a break than planned. Career suicide.
Interesting reading this 9 years later. Both Mikes went through some rough spots, but are both very much successful at this point. Distance Over Time was an excellent DT album, and MP's got so many irons in the fire (Sons of Apollo, Transatlantic, Neal Morse Band, Flying Colors), it's a wonder he has time to sit down.
Who is Cool as Fuck by the way! got to talk to him once he was telling me that without him they would overplay and that is what they do now,Derek was always trying to get them to pull back and have more quiet parts and build up in his opinion Jordan was to much of a yes man.and he is right they were much better with Derek in there who still no matter what has not lost his passion for rock and roll where as DT has lost alot of their passion and what they were taught at berkley one of the first things you learn at BSOMT what makes music work is silence. i maybe counted one traditional break on their last two albums the astonishing is better but still alot of over playing. i hope one day mine and Derek will be back in the band but not likely.
@AKtifosi While Dream Theater may not be the same, I am confident that since the rest of the band is still comprised of the same phenomenal musicians minus Portnoy, they will persist without much if any musical degradation. I too, though, am quite sad that Dream Theater lost the best possible drummer they could ever have.
@@memphetic lol I was totally wrong. Chemistry is a really elusive and difficult thing to pinpoint and I feel like they lost it once Portnoy left. Hate to say it, but I haven't been very into any of the post-Portnoy albums so far. That said, I do really like the new song they released so maybe the upcoming album will be good.
How can you say this and still be a big Elton John fan? Unless you aren't a big Elton John fan.... Its a cover, and a good one, but it is nowhere near the original.

In the middle of all those #1 singles, Elton tossed off one of Top 10 prog tunes of all time. He could whip up melodies in his sleep back then.
Wow, I have listened to this EP countless times but never realized it was recorded in such a small club. How lucky those fans were. John P and John M look so young in this vid.......1995 was a long time ago. LOL
Small club, fans? Wtf? It's a fucking studio

Probably their best cover, love it
one of my favourite DT cover.....

the one on the LP was recorded at Ronnie Scott's Jazz club I believe
Great cover of a gem.
Amazing how it sounds so close to the album version!!!
Thousands of rehearsals to get it just right, it just kind of becomes second nature to do it again exactly the same way. Kind of like walking.... you don't even think about it when you've been doing it so much.
never thought i'd see the video that goes with this, gotta love the bootleg world!
everything they do is class. thanks.
By the way, it's not Jordan Rudess playing the keyboard on Dream Theaters Cover of this song, it's Derek Sherinian...
amazing cover of an amazing song. Dream Theater really kick it!
Wow, I;m stunned and happy to view this. DT ROCKS!!
So this is the live performance from the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club Bar in London back in '95. You know what guys, I wish Barney Greenway should've sang this song as well aside from the Damage Inc. song he did w/ DT.
Rocked that classic. Awesome!

Me Too !! DREAM THEATER!!!
going to see them in one week ;)
Holy shit I had no idea they covered this fantastic song.
It's in one of their records.
Bendito por subir este video ya lo esperaba ver con emocion thanls for this video it´s great song and cover
Ya, they are babies lol. James was buff had a linebackers chest and shoulders. Thick ass arms too
@danieltpc, that is Derek Sherinian on keys, just like on the recording on "Change of Seasons."
great song
@AKtifosi Totally!!! Cant bear to think of seeing them without him- never be the same

Eduardo Tovias august 94
a change of seasons the song was written while kevin moore was in the band he just didnt record it
i like this video much... thanks alot for uploading it
Historical video!!! Wow!!!
Epic Band! Love Dream Theatre! What Talent! \m/ \m/
Wow!
holy crap! im so happy theres video.
Excelente... Nunca lo habia visto !!
@yesrushdt :
This is certainly NOT the same performance as on the album!
Ah, thanks for clearing this up.
@@DanielVerberne hahaha hahaha lol
Does anyone know if this is the actual recording of the track in the A Change Of Seasons album? It sounds very similar
Best version ever, lot of feeling!!!
It's very good. Best version ever? No.

+Nicholas Syl Probably wouldn't sound so wobbly if not filmed with a phone.
+Johnnysynth in '95? :p
Someone filmed the TV (videotape) of this with their phone, Duh!
+Nicholas Syl lol another fuck sayingn james dubs his vocals.. same cooks on the Score DVD
@@ryanslater674 you know that's a completely normal thing for bands like this right? This is the same exact performance thats on the acos cd, but some vocal parts are different here sooooo...?
Ah eu choro né! Eu choro!! Coisa mais linda do mundo!!! Iraaado!!!

@GrupoPerfil Derek the best keybordist dream theater ever had!!!!!!!!! I miss Dream Theater with Derek.
>Is the Change of Season's (CD) version? not the same version, but afaik most of ACOS was recorded live, beside first lengthy track, A Change Of Seasons suite , which was done in the studio
Qué jóvenes eramos!
@PaddyLake ; It is the same performance. Listen to the miscue at 1:34 and the same small mistake is present on the album.
Not only does he look better, he sounds better also, I think.
I'm late to comment but this was amazing you guys didn't butcher this:)
thanks for upload man..
perfect!
you gotta respect these guys..
No you don't. This was muddy manure.
wow are there more from this show? thanks!
Surely the album version.
Back when Dream Theater could play with soul, today is just too insipid.
I agree :'(
Is the Change of Season's (CD) version?
Their golden era?
Its a minute shorter because this doesn't have the long keyboard intro that is on the EP.
@Awake79 or maybe it's from another show ;)
@sevensecondsdeep but can mangini write lyrics?
Does anyone know if this is the live cut that made it to the Change of Seasons LP?
It is, however the vocals on the "A Change of Seasons" EP are overdubbed in the studio afterwards.
This is amazing, when was this recorded? I take it's pretty old for Kevin Moore is still on keyboards, pre-1994 I suppose? Despite the fact John Myung still looks like a kid.
What Kevin Moore? This is Derek Sherinian. The album is: A Change of Seasons.
Fighting over an interpretation is a little silly but I get it. I always took this as an "homage" to Elton John and Bernie Taupin.
@eggo63 Oops, make that 1:33ish.
This one is one minute shorter than the one on the EP.
@yesrushdt Hey, have some faith in Mike Mangini!
Siamo in studio? ❤️
For those grieving Dream Theater, type in, "on the backs of angels dream theater".

how did you get this footage?
Well I can speak for the guitar part. It's a different performance.
Listen to the album before you judge. If you think it is, see if you can do better.
Derek Sherinian
Interesting....this isn't the same vocal track that is on the A Change of Seaons EP. Must have done some overdubbing.
Pretty much. I think James LaBrie overdubbed his vocals on the ACOS live tracks.. I don't know why as he sounds fine here.
@AKtifosi While Dream Theater may not be the same, I am confident that since the rest of the band is still comprised of the same phenomenal musicians minus Portnoy, they will persist without much if any musical degradation. I was very upset when Paul Diano left Iron Maiden. I was an idiot.
Nah, it's a different one. Tempo is slower and everything.
Human Patrimony baby.
this is the basic track that is on the ACOS EP, but before the mayor overdubbing they did to it.
This is definitely the same version.
sherinian is playing it wrong...
But this does sound remarkably similar to it........
Did these guys just wake up ? Lol derek looks tired as a mofo
How can you say this and still be a big Elton John fan?
Unless you aren't a big Elton John fan....
Its a cover, and a good one, but it is nowhere near the original.
I'm not an Elton John fan. This is heavier, ergo is better.
good cover, but it isnt a rickenbaker song
The bass player looks OD'ed on Xanax.
wow look at JP...he hardly has any muscle!!! Just shows how young he is here ;)
This version > Metallica cover
Great tune without a BILLION useless notes.
DragonForce sucks
good thing this isnt dragonforce
u sucks noob
what a choppy mess.......
choppy and muddy.
