- Howdy. Here's a short chat about looking for a crashpad, what to expect and what my experiences were like. Then, there's a short tour of my current digs. Please, drop a comment about your own experiences with crash pads and let me know if you have any particular questions. As always, please give this video a thumbs up and hit that subscribe button. While I may not be able to promise top-notch production value, I can promise good solid content for those people who are looking into the flight attendant career! Oh, you can always reach me on Facebook. / abearintheair
When I was a flight attendant, I couldn't bring myself to go the crashpad route, so I rented a room in a woman's apartment. It cost me a lot more than a crashpad would have, but I had a room to myself as well as a half bath.
I never did the crashpad thing - too germy (for me)! I worked at a 2 star (but clean hotel) as a desk clerk/errand girl on my days off, and the manager gave me a room w/bath & mini appliances (in return)! ❤ your videos and spunk.
I’m not even a FA or going to be in the industry I just enjoy watching videos on it. I subscribed, your place looks perfect for one person!
I decided to go watch what started it all!
I like your studio. I like your style.
Excellent, informative and entertaining. I am considering opening a crash pad. Thank you for your perspective. Would love to watch some vids from the owner operator's perspective. Thank you again....loved it.
Love the apartment tour
I love your studio, Steven!😊 It's bigger than the one I used to rent in Paris😉.
Hello Steven, Thank you for your terrific videos! You are incredibly thoughtful and so very helpful. I have been trying to locate videos in search of finding out how new FA's handle their relocation details. It appears that FA candidates are notified of their base one - two weeks prior to graduation. Upon graduation FA's receive their first trip within 3 - 5 days. It seems once work begins there really is no time to move furniture, books (I have a lot of books), studio size move. Yes, I will do my own move (u-haul trailer and my Tacoma). I am not a commuter type, so immediately after graduation, I would like to do airbnb until I find an apartment. I love airbnb! I am a pretty patient person and can live out of a suitcase, but its always nice to come home to our things.
Your airline and your colleagues are so lucky to work with you! You also have a great sense of humor! :) Thank you again! Jules
J Whit thanks! Not everyone feels so lucky to work with me. LOL!
J Whit, I just made a little video about transitioning from training. I don't know if it will help, but there you go!
Thank you Steven for all the precious information on what’s to come for FA training to getting those wings! You are awesome and such a blessing. 😊
Where it all began. Neat seeing the apartment pre-cats. Love the way you decorated it. Can’t wait to see how you transform your new home!
❤️❤️good morning!
Working my way back through your videos since I’m new. I know this may sound weird to some but who cares! I’m driven by my Spirit and though I’ve never physically met you, I just love you! You shine!
While waiting on my F2F, I've been watching FA videos. Love your videos ! So helpful...thank you!
Pushing 50 thank you! I'm flattered that you take the time to watch!
How'd you F2F go?
Love the NOT YOURS tags! 💕
Thanks for the video. I am considering opening up a couple crash pads in Philly. I am researching the FA point of view. This information was helpful.
Gosh, I'll thank you in advance and on behalf of those folks who rent beds in your crashpads. LOL! Crashpads are such an important part of a flight attendant's first days.
Thanks for the video Steve. My wife Celise and I will open a crash pad in Las Vegas in February 2019. Your video was very helpful to make sure we operate a good one.
Do you all currently still have a crash pad in Vegas ?
Do you have your crash pad?
Great looking apt!
Marc Basilla thanks!
You had me laughing so hard with the ashes story😂😂I’m sorry but this was too funny 😂 Specially the way you said it😂You are right that was a little be too much😂😂
Thanks for sharing Steven. Your apartment looks great. Those chairs were an amazing find!!
D F thanks! I love those chairs! So comfortable and good looking. I hope to keep them for a while.
It was very shitty that you were left homeless on the very beginning of your new career.
🤣 Steven says, “My crash pad was in the closet and I can’t tell you I have not been in the closet for the longest time. I haven’t seen lady parts since I was born.”
I adore my male gay friends. They come up with the best come back comments. Your channel needs to grow faster!!!
Thanks for sharing! Very informative!
I’m hoping for SLC or LAX just cause I have family both in Utah and California. But now I’m researching. I’m 27 and have my own place and already know I don’t like roommating.
“I haven’t been in a closet for...a long time.” Classic. 😂
Dude - you are awesome !!!!! I'm subscribed!!
gazermaninca thanks!!!
Your studio is cute!!!
Good morning Steven, Wow! Thank you for your quick response. Congrats on your new work schedule too!
Please tell me when and how you will bring your personal items from Atlanta to Las Vegas? Yes, I have viewed many of your videos. They are terrific!
I am from the legal corporate world and a FA job would be a second chapter in life. In my former career, when accepting a new job and relocation was necessary; we move everything to our new city/home. Perhaps, this thinking is unrealistic for a FA job? Again, I have found that no one is commenting on this aspect of being a new FA. As I now think about why I would not relocate my personal items, I think there could be a myriad of reasons. Perhaps, I need to change my thinking? Put my Santa Barbara, CA things in storage? Thank you again for your helpful information. OK, so last message from me as I know from your view count there are many of us out there. You are a ROCKSTAR in relaying this FA process! Thank you so very much! Jules
Honestly, the most important things to me always fit in a suitcase. So, on my days off I would fly back to Atlanta to pick up stuff....see my friends and the dogs...and fly back with my treasures. Furniture and stuff...I bought that at Ikea or got it at Habitat for Humanity. Thanks for all your kind words...I'm enjoying the way the channel is growing.
What a great place I just adore your videos
I really enjoy these videos. (I've watch several different people and Steven is informative, funny and to the point. I love it!) I have been considering a FA career change. My question is about landing that first job and relocating vs crash pads. It seems to me, most airlines ask "Are you willing to relocate?" It doesn't seem wise to answer "No" if that's the truth, but friends and other youtubers point out this crash pad "thing". Why does an airline ask you to relocate, if crash pads are an option, albeit not ideal for everyone.
Another question is the same light: Say I get my job after completing training and find the best crash pad possible for me and then I'm on reserve for the next year. I understand that you should not use the crash pad as your apartment, but how does that work, if you don't get any flights to work. You have to wait somewhere. (You don't have to sit at the airport all the time, do you??) Seems like I'll be hanging at the crash pad a lot, until I couple days off to go home-home.
Great questions. Airlines will ask if you're willing to relocate, because they really dont want you to commute. Commuting, especially on reserve, is a spectacular hassle and can make an easy trip a challenge. Personally, I had a crashpad until I could afford to get out of it and find my own apartment or a roommate. Most ceashpads allow you to stay there when you are between trips...very few have a maximum number of stays per month. And dont worry about not being used while on reserves. Even in the slowest months you'll be used!
Yes i am in a crashpad now it is great so far I have no complaints at all very different and I like it so far! I am base in Chicago but commute from Hollywood, Florida this vlog was so helpful
That doesn't sound like a really bad commute. Are you on reserve? That could be stressful...but it's the perfect reason for a crashpad.
I really enjoy your videos, sometimes I re watch them because they are so informative. I will begin training in a few weeks, please tell me how you coped with the long hours of training plus the extra studying at night. I too am over 40 starting a new career. Thanks
Well, the training itself wasn't super long...each day probably lasted about eight hours. But, so much info is thrown at you that it can be a little draining. The way I coped with stress was to cry, honestly. I cried a lot. It got the stress out of me. Then, I would sit down and really throw myself at the work! I wanted this more than most things in my life...and I knew about the rewards, so I applied myself! I would joke and say that if I applied myself this much to my relationships I wouldn't have an ex-husband. LOL. At my age, I also didn't feel that I had a plan B. So, I really had to make this work.
Such a cute space.
+Freedom Speaks, thanks! When I turn over for bed I can look around my entire place, cuz it is really that small, and just SCI thinking how much I love where I live. I'm so blessed to have his career and be able to afford the studio even when I'm reserve.
Steven Pereira yes it's really cute and quaint. I'll be flying soon. I've been a FA before. I've applied everywhere. I have f2f with PSA and Alaska coming up.
Awesomesauce! Those are great airlines! Good luck.
Steven Pereira hey I always wonder about theft in crash pads. Can you tell me anything about your experience.?
+Freedom Speaks, I can't say that was ever worried about my stuff in my crashpad...if anything we all watched out for each other. And since it's not an apartment or a place we lived full time, we rarely had many valuables. I felt safer leaving things like my laptop on my bed than I would leaving it in our crew room.
oh my! your classmate cancelling the arrangement at the last minute!😳 So rude! As if she didn't know before! Oh and that 1st crashpad!🙄 What a rough start it must have been!
Sophie Acapella it really was awful. But, it was a learning experience.
Great place 😊👍
I’m dying 😵 laughing over this video! Wow like I’ve said I’m inspired! Today was my video interview! Oy - I cant even imagine what I looked like!!
I got the cob!!
LOL "I haven't been in a closet in a long time" I love it.
Hi..Im glad your information videos...I don't plan on getting a car and will rely on public transportation...Im hope I end up at a public transit base city..any recommendations?
I don't know what I could suggest except for try to find a crashpad or apartment as close to the airport as possible.
I feel like I’m too old to deal with crash pad life. But if I had to do it, I would definitely look for a cold bed. The thought of sleeping in a warm bed seems really gross. 😕 You had me lmbo when you talked about lady parts! 😆 I have an off topic question: Is it possible for a FA to work a part time job on the side?
Hey Steven, I'm happy to see a new video from you. Did you move completely from Atlanta? Did you ever regret to make that career change? Fly safe.
Christina Coffee, howdy! I still kind of live in Atlanta. Though, I may just pack stuff up so it's not in the way of my best friend who owns the house. Regret this career change? NEVER! I absolutely adore my job...this is the last job I'm ever going to have.
I live in Atlanta as well. I’m so ready to start this career. I have a degree in aviation already and ever since are infected with the aviation bug. I just love the atmosphere at an airport and that you never really know where it takes you, since you can be re-routed at any minute.
Thanks so much. Your videos have tons of info. I have a F2F on Dec 7th and Vegas is one of the hubs for the airline I am applying to. So your studio is only 500? That is awesome.
I love Vegas! Mostly because I can afford it and the weather is pretty great. As long as you can handle a hot summer. Yes, my studio cost me $525 a month. My electricity cost me about $30 a month on average and I paid $20 a month for an apartment insurance. But that's it! I don't know if I could live anywhere else in the country on my income. LOL!
Thanks for a wealth of info.
Steven I’m going to an open house next Thursday here in Houston wish me luck. Can you make a video about the airlines new Houston crew base?
Sorry, I know nothing about it!
I’ve tried different styles of pads. Bunks are not for me especially top bunks. Some owners allow you to live there and even rent out to a mix of crew and non crew tenants. I had a great one, mixed crew and non crew with my own private room and private full bathroom with a tub 🛁 I was able to lock my room door while I was out as well. I paid more but it was worth it to me. If you find a cheap bunk style pad with several tenants I would limit Staying there to a max of a few months cause overall people tend to not be very clean or considerate with noise levels in those types of living arrangements
Agreed!
Wow $525 plus electric! That’s awesome ☺️ Very hard to find a good deal like that
It was a great deal. In almost 4 years it went up to 585. Still cheap! just there wasn't enough room for me and the three cats.
That was really 💩titty on how you were left without a crashpad. You have a GREAT studio. Thanks for this video.
I like my own space.
Great content! What's most important when considering a CP?
James Moesch the most important thing for me is proximity to the airport. A cheap crashpad is expensive if you're dropping coin for an Uber all the time! So, I prefer one that's close to the airport or on a bus line. The next important thing would be if there is a maximum number of nights...I'd want unlimited if I were on reserve.
Steven Pereira I really appreciate ypur perspective! Thank you!
Love that coat..where did you get it ?
That's an old Marshalls find! I love it. So cozy.
Hi Steven, I am considering converting a Las Vegas property to a crashpad. Where isnthe best place to advertise?
Actually, where is the best place to advertise? Rather than isn’t 🙈
Crashpadd411.com would be a good choice. Theres a website as well as a facebook group. If you have friends in the industry in LAS you could have them suggest it.
I think theres also a Facebook group called crashpad connections. Something else to look at.
Thank You Steven, how frequently do you go home ?
When I was in a crashpad I would try to go home or back up to Boston twice a month (for 3 days at a time) on my guaranteed days off. If I couldn't it was because the planes were packed with summer or spring break flyers. Now that I'm in my studio, by myself, I fly home a little less.
Hi hun does spirit have a maximum hours you can work per month. Like do they cap you on your hours per month and if so what is the monthly cap ?
I can't (won't) speak for the company (the social media policy for my airline forbids me speaking for them). But, Spirit's contract says that flight attendants can block up to 110 hours a month, but there's unlimited soft credit if you can get it. I know plenty of flight attendants that get credit for more than 120 hours.
@@flightattendantsteven Hi Steven! Thank you so much for these videos. I start training July 1st in Vegas and I will shake your hand to thank you if I bump into you!! My question is what is soft credit and how do you obtain it?
I'm just now seeing this video, your second video...and look at you now
Hi Steven, so Las Vegas is one of my base choices. I’ve always heard cost of living is pretty low. I’m thinking of putting this as my #1 choice for this reason. Would you agree?
P C, yep. It's pretty cheap to live here. But crashpads aren't easy to come by these days. So you'd definitely want to start working on getting a place the moment you find out if it's your base.
I stayed in two crashpads before deciding to get my own studio...couldn't afford this in any other city that I know of.
If you’re based in Atlanta and you live in Miami do you have to spend a plane ticket to get to work or the airline provide transportation to get to work? and you just pay for your crash pad ?
When you commute (from home to a base) you dont pay for your airfare but your airline doesn't organize your travel...you nonrev on your or any other airline that has an open seat. Commuting from ATL to MIA shouldn't be too difficult, but I wouldn't do it on reserve.
@@flightattendantsteven Hi Steven! Me again! I live in Chicago and I am pretty sure the base is not available for new hires at this time so which base would you suggest since I will be on reserve also? You are one terrific guy for taking the time to do this for all of us so thank you again!
LOL, havent seen lady parts since I was born, lol.
How did you find your apartment, what websites!? :)
I think I saw one of the properties on a craigslist add...but it was SOOO bad I was going to leave. The leasing agent mentioned another property...I saw it and signed for it within minutes.
omg i watched the 2020 videos first and your apt was so pretty before the cats lol
That's one little reason I'd like to buy a place...more room for the cats AND me!
Sad now that I’m Las Vegas that same crash pad is probably $800 now
Crash pads are usually pretty much the same in price. I'd say between $200 and $300. Which is a lot when you're brand new. My old studio started at $525 a month, including everything. But, now that is about $800. So, a crash pad is still a steal.
No privacy 😂!
hey, i would love to get feedback from u is there a way we could talk? im freaking out changing my career
Ezekiel Glemaud hi there. Hit Facebook and search for @ABearintheAir where you can message me.
just did
I don't like crash pads! 😂
Hey!!!!
FlyGirlLazette, howdy!
