You are hands down the best jazz piano teacher on TH-cam. You explain things so also people without a degree in music can understand. All my knowledge of jazz comes from your videos. Thanks!
Extremely good tut and hands-on from the beginning! The exercises/studies will keep me busy for some time and already give me inspiration to my own musical lines I hear in my head! Thnx, Jonny! 🙏
Johnny..I Love the way you turned the bebop scale into a bebop chord lesson by using a Cmin bebop scale.. there may be another..however; the one played on the first measure makes total sense for me to practice the chords with accuracy.
Johnny excellent video. I try to see what is going on with the sheet music, before listening. It helps me to understand better. I saw the roots I 6 2 5. The key signature makes so much sense. Cm7b5 Amin7b5 Dm7b5 G7.. btw the D Chord look like another chord on my phone. IDK..still watching.
I saw the G7b9. The b9 chords used to confuse me. Then I realized that they did not have a G root in them ...just (b9 3 5 b7). Then I realized this was a full Dim.7. which opened up many choices. All those minor 3rds. The natural note B in the Eb signature gave us the G dominant 7..(G7).
Jonny, God bless you! So simple, so useful! When the Covid ends and you're occasionaly in Moscow, Russia, please let me know. I will be really glad to meet you.
Hey Jonny, absolute fan of your lessons! You said one can find the backing tracks on the link below. There are however no backing tracks on that page there. Can you tell me where I can find them?
Actually I'm not happy with the C Bebop Harmonic Minor Scale over Am7b5 - it doesn't really fit. The Ab of the scale should be resolved to A when playing the exercise over Am7b5 (I see it's a bit more difficult, but not too hard, imho...). You could think of the resulting scale as C dorian with an additional maj7 as passing tone between Bb and C (Bb - B - C) or as a C bebop dominant scale with a b3 (instead of the regular major third)....

A really useful lesson. Thanks. That chord progression is part of the Stanley Turrentine song, Sugar, which I just happened to be learning.
Thanks for the tip. You're right. It's an integral part of Sugar .

Can you do a video where you do a smooth jazz improvisation, not a tutorial ?

TH-cam should add something more than just the Like button.
