The rural people of Nepal includes the Gurkhas. On the other hand the urban people have always been the ruling class. The ruling class of people includes the Rana, and the Shah and the Brahmins and Chettris. The ruling class discriminated all other Nepali people especially belonging to adivasi janajatis, madhesis and dalits in terms of holding political power, making national decision for Nepal, education and government jobs. Except for the ruling class, all other Nepali people were barred from education. The Rana rulers, who placed Nepal under their feudal yoke for about 100 years until the beginning of the 1950s, feared an educated public. This fear also was held by Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher Rana, who established Tri-Chandra College in 1918 and named it after himself. During the inauguration of the college, Chandra Shamsher lamented that its opening was the ultimate death knell to Rana rule. He personally felt responsible for the downfall of Rana rule, and his words became prophetic for the crumbling of Rana political power in 1950-51. The privileged access of members of the higher castes and wealthier economic strata to education was for centuries a distinguishing feature of society. The Ranas kept education the exclusive prerogative of the ruling elite; the rest of the population remained largely illiterate. The Ranas were opposed to any form of public schooling for the people, although they emphasized formal instruction for their own children to prepare them for a place in the government. You can read and get more knowledge on education in Nepal during the time of Shah and Rana in this book - Nepal and Bangladesh: A Global Studies Handbook By Nanda R. Shrestha Come back to 2017 AD, the so called educated group of Nepali people belongs to privileged ruling class -the Ranas and Shah and the Brahmin and Chettris who had dominated and monopolized in education, government jobs and political power in Nepal for last 240 years. Niti Shah is from that ruling Shah dynasty. This is why Niti Shah in the Miss International 2017, held in Tokyo Japan mentioned that there are 2 categories of woman in Nepal - the urban and the rural.
I trained at church crookham with the Gurkhas great friends brilliant soldiers loyal allies I didn't know that nepalise women are being recruited is this in the uk
I found the dance a bit disconcerting when I first saw the men perform it. It is downright terrifying when i first was a female Gurkha perform it... Wow
respect to our ancestors but now its time to dance with a pen !!!! no offence if somebody love being gorkhas. with our background and what we have possessed in our sleeves we can make it a respectable history . still proud . even the sumurai are running business thesedays .....few good friends including one of them son inlaw died in afghanistan fighting for british flag leaving his son growing up with no father . i left the army after this and achieved success to some degree better than i could have . i think its a personal opinion but i can see a lot of opportunity living in a first world .....................
