- After three succesful melodramas Zarah Leander starred in "Der Blaufuchs" (The Blue Fox) a adaptation of an Hungarian stage play by Ferenc Herczeg. In this modern day comedy Zarah Leander played Ilona, a beautiful woman who realises she is married to the wrong man (Paul Hörbiger) only to fall in love with her husband's best friend (Willy Brigel) while being pursued herself by a popular singer (Karl Schönböck). Even though Leander looked very glamourous and modern “Der Blaufuchs” is not among her best movies. The movie however does feature "Kann denn Liebe Sünde sein?" (Can love be a sin?) one of Zarah Leander's signature songs and the beautiful Hungarian melody "Von der Puszta will ich träumen" (I want to dream of the puszta). In my opinion the latter is the more interesting composition and is presented in two versions in this video.
The first version was recorded by the Hungarian bandleader and violinist Emil Roósz (1897-1945). I find his version very atmospheric and even sensual. Roósz had a very succesful career in Germany and played at the Adlon, Excelsior, Kaiserhof and Bristol hotels and made many recordings for Kristall and later Imperial. He was murdered in unclear circumstances in Budapest in 1945. Emil Roósz also accompanied Swedish singer Greta Wasberg who recorded her version of “Von der Puszta will ich träumen” for Imperial in 1938.
The second version was recorded by Hans Busch (1909-1996) for Grammophon/Polydor . Busch was also a very successful violinist and bandleader who recorded more than 250 sides for Deutsche Grammophon between 1935 and 1943. He was often regarded as Grammophon’s answer to Barnabás von Geczy, one of Electrola’s most popular and prolific bandleaders. After struggling to relaunch his career after the Second World War he became very well known in Sweden both as a musician and music publisher.

¡Bello! ¡Divino!
👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
