The Whites beat you up and slow you down…that’s just how it is. You can hike 20 mile days but be prepared to take 15 hours to do it! Clearing the Wildcats and Carters with a camera and a dog is badass!!!
Hooray for good weather and great to see that one climb with Leo! Definitely answers some of the "how did they do that?" on other sections. The trust and calm steady hand and voice were impressive. Also, a great opportunity to thank everyone who uses harnesses vs just collars. Extra support on the back vs around the neck ... so important. Leo Rocks! (literally) 😀🎉
Your videos through New Hamphire have been so awesome. Keep getting better and better. Watching Leo scramble was awesome. Definitely one for the highlight reel. And you guys better do a highlight teel. One just for Leo too! Stay safe and carry on!
Amazing that you're able to film in that terrain as well as hiking with Leo and keeping him safe! If you do videos after the hike, would love to know how you as well as Leo adjust to 'after trail'. 16 years after my thru hike, I still think about thru hiking again and wish I was out there. I live close to the trail and hike almost daily on the AT (sometimes pretending I'm on a thru hike😊)
Not only is Leo a hiking dog, He’s a rock climbing dog! I think he would follow You just anywhere! I am thankful to watch you both from the safety & comfort of my sofa cause there’s no way I could crawl up those rocks! Keep going!
As beautiful as your pictures are, I can't imagine how much more beautiful you are seeing them in person. Please don't completely wear yourself out for an arbitrary number of miles goal - give yourself (and Leo) grace to rest. you've earned it!!!
When we hit the Whites we were used to 20+ mile days. Those mountains just laughed at us and we were back to 15-ish mile days. Then we took a three days of zeros in Gorham to eat and sleep and recover. Beautiful and a place fit for gods to live, but the Whites are perilous for mortal man.
What a beautiful fabulous day! It just has to smell good walking through all the Fir trees!! The views….epic! Thank you for demonstrating how you scale Leo up the rock walls 😊well got the Wildcats behind you now.. you are getting so close! …keep pushing those miles…Hike on !
Look at Leo go! With his tail wagging!!! the views are breathtaking… spectacular, pure awesomeness! You are abused and beat up! You are doing an amazing job. You’ll be able to make up your miles later I’m sure.❤❤❤❤❤
When on the Mts and looking out at all the beautiful mts around it makes us realize just how tiny of a spec we are in this universe. Thank you for all your sharing along your way with your videos. 🙏🏼♥️
I stopped at that same flat rock on the lake for a break and my hiking partner snapped a shot of me and it’s become one of my favorite pics from my hike. That spot is absolutely gorgeous. You’re almost there great job!!
I just realized I passed you and Leo on trail on a section hike right outside of Falls Village, CT. Good progress in June. I am heading for 100 mile section hike in the whites in August. Looks like a workout.
You guys are incredible! There are no words good enough to describe how incredible you both are! Leo is the best hiking dog ever! I can’t wait to see how you both maneuver the the mahoosic notch😍 that’s the part of the trail that really scares me the most. I want to hike the AT so much, but that one section really scares me. I am almost almost caught up with your videos. I have been watching and listening to them every spare minute I have so that I can get caught up. It has been a joy to watch you both.😍😍😍
The views have been amazing Mike! I'll bet your shoes/feet and Leo's paws are beat up. Wow! You're almost there, so close you can taste it! I can feel the emotions in your voice... keep pressing on! Can't wait for the huge celebration on Kahtadin!!!
Hiker Hubris = thinking one can do the same mileage in the Whites as the rest of the Trail. "Just" getting to Imp Shelter from Pinkham was a huge day's work in itself. If you were "not feeling it," it's because the trail really did beat you up. You and Leo are doing great! Just listen to your body and do no more than you can reasonably do each day.
To be on the 4000 foot list, the peak needs to rise 200 feet from the ridgeline. That is the arbitrary criteria that was established for the AMC 4000 foot list.
Actually needs to be a minimum of a 200 foot rise and decent from the neighboring peak. There are quite a few 4000 footers that do not qualify for the list because of it.
Appreciate Phoenix being there- assuming he took the video showing how you help Leo negotiate steep rock climbs Know you have family & a business to get back to, is there a hard deadline to finish, maybe not realistic going forward you can hit 20-mile days. The adage so near yet so far comes to mind.
You don’t have to make 20 miles when you are doing so many tough climbs. You should adjust your mileage accordingly and enjoy the moment. Stop beating yourself up! You and Leo are doing amazing!
Prominence between peaks is the reason that some are on the 4K list and others arent. In the case of Mt Hight you dont drop down enough in elevation between the summit of it and Carter Dome
🚶🐕🦺👟👟⛺🌞 some beautiful views up there you are getting so close now this has been one great journey I know for you but for the viewers to you gave us lots of extra views stay safe and happy hiking 💯💪🏆
You had to work today the views, but man they were worth it. I felt bad when you missed the views on Franconia Ridge. I think these kinda made up for it. I hope you slept/recovered well. See you tomorrow.
I think you should forget the miles per day average and take better care of yourself! You are too important to be abused! I am so proud of you for stopping early Great job!
Would there have been a way for the trail to ascend without climbing rocks?? is there terrain that can be switch back or stair stepped with natural resources? I think the trail maintenance groups are amazing but rockclimbing was not really hiking. You guys did awesome and your videography is spot on

Thanks
To see that steep incline that you helped Leo up was crazy. Leo does deserve a ATag! To views were breathtaking for sure.
Thanks
I enjoy Leo on the rock scrambles. Nothing you two can't do. 👏👏👏
We agree!

You bet!

Will do!
LEO is so brave!! Sounds like a tough day! Looking forward to what's next.
Yes it was!

Good boy Leo! He did a great job scrambling up the Wildcat Ridge Trail
Thanks

Beautiful views! You're almost to Maine. Leo must love all the climbing. Pups have all the energy to handle climbing.
Yes they do

Same here

Love Carter Notch!
Thanks
Up a creek bed, down a creek bed. Repeat. Safe travels.
It works
Prominence between peaks is the reason that some are on the 4K list and others arent. In the case of Mt Hight you dont drop down enough in elevation between the summit of it and Carter Dome
It was still beautiful

Great views!!! Do you have to be done by certain day seem worry about get miles done?
I just like getting certain miles done
You had to work today the views, but man they were worth it. I felt bad when you missed the views on Franconia Ridge. I think these kinda made up for it. I hope you slept/recovered well. See you tomorrow.
Thanks
I see Leo has booties on sometimes. Has he had any pad issues with all the rock scrambles? Watching daily from Louisiana!
None pads are good
What has Leo taught U most on the hike and how has your bond grown with him
Patience and the bond is crazy
I think you should forget the miles per day average and take better care of yourself! You are too important to be abused! I am so proud of you for stopping early Great job!

It has to do with prominance.
Thanks
