      @@the_unmatched_power_of_the_sun And what exactly they did? You are mostly judging the game for technical problems and company mismanagement.
      Not for the world building, lore, story and characters...
      If Yoy going to judge by this standard them the picture completely change, the story in CP77 is great, maybe not the most original, but it still is great.
      The characters are amazing (you may hate Jhonny, but you can't deny that the anti-villain character of Keanu Reeves is well written).
      Jackie is also a very charismatic character and you really feel when he die, as if you lost your best friend.
      Many other characters are very well written, Dex part in the game, but impactful, i still remember he getting wasted by Goro Takemura who literally insert itself in V's life in that exactly moment in a glorious way.
      The dialogues are really great and very realistic.
      Again, i think folks confused CP77 with Andromeda, nothing can't save Andromeda, because the poor writing and weak characters can't be changed, this isn't the case in CP77, and Mike Pondsmit can be proud of his participation in the game because is precisly the world he create that is the greatest redeeming quality of CP77.
      CP77 isn't Andromeda, it is Kotor 2 the very same problems and virtues.

    • @efxnews4776
      @efxnews4776 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Brendan tell me here then WHY THE FCK, the original trilogy of Mass Effect wich has a far worst gameplay than a lot of games is highly praised as on of the best videogames of all times while Andromeda is regarded as one of the worst even having the best combat of the entire franchise? Why is that?
      Kotor wich is among the best RPGS of all time is a turned based combat system...
      Can you explain me how this could be? You know shit about what you are talking, if you knew you would know that CP77 combat is fast paced sometimes closely resembles Doom Eternal.
      Not only that but you can't play with se several styles, sneaking, melee combat, hacking (wich is essentially magic...).
      Folks complaining about CP77 mostly do because of bugs and performance, but aside from that theres few problems with the game itself.

    The thing that (still) makes me so angry about this, is that it's almost like CDPR didn't even try. They procrastinated on really starting it, and acted like it had been in development for years. Then they spent way too much time on the "48 minute gameplay" -demo- deception. Just kept making huge promises and lying about how far along it was, giving it the hard sell. Making the main story shorter and easier to complete was fine, but they used that as an excuse to skimp out on the side content. If it had an additional 2-3 years of development, it might have delivered on half of the promises, and probably would have been great.
    I know some people say "I had fun, your fault for having such high expectations", but _fuck that._ My expectations wouldn't have been anywhere near as high if they didn't tell so many flat out lies. I know the difference between "marketing puffery" and lies - and CDPR was miles over the line.
    It's just... one of the most egregious examples of everything a developer can do wrong. Actually the best (recent) counter example I can think of is Control. That game is very fun, very polished, quite original, and creative. The story can be completed in as little as 15 hours, but the optional side content is as good or better. Obviously a totally different kind of game, but Remedy did everything right. It knows what it wants to do and does it extremely well. Actually surprised me a lot, had no idea it would end up being one of my favorite games this millennium.

    • @Luemm3l
      @Luemm3l 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      really well put and I liked the bit about Control as a counter example. The game is certainly not without flaws, but it had a decent enough media campaign, but not too much, was well polished, did not oversell on its features and gave us two very good DLCs that expanded on story, only slightly on gameplay, but gave very good value for their price. meanwhile we have CDPR promising paid and free dlc, but we get a car and some new jackets and that's it so far. patches are done since over half a year and performance is slowly getting there, but not thanks to code optimizations but the developer basically turning off features (there is a video on youtube about that that compares graphical settings in pre-patch versions with the patched versions). In the meantime modders managed to do basically the same and more in their spare time. Does not reflect good on CDPR. I also really wish for this game to come back to the potential it promised, but I highly doubt it at this point. Would not expect story dlc before Q4 2022, maybe even 2023 and multiplayer... no idea if they are actually still working on it. The only thing I can see this game coming around somewhat is just giving the modding community full control, something that is already a thing, but I doubt they will get full access to source code and so on. But it might help to develop this game further. I mean look at Half Life, look at Skyrim, look at Fallout, look at GTA, there are a lot of games that benefitted a LOT from the Modding Community.

      @@JoshuaOnline I’ll be a little fair, I get the reasoning behind wanting to go a different direction from whats worked before, but it’s very obvious here that ambition was not being managed well, I’m all for a new direction but making an open world, first person shooter with vehicles and tons of buildings is a huge jump, even rockstar who have mastered the open world genre, even their older games have a lots of dated mechanics, it took time for rockstar to master it, cd projekt red should’ve gone for something simpler and more in their forte before doing something like this, it was both of a mixture of lack of experience and a lack of proper management.

    • @JoshuaOnline
      @JoshuaOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mediawatcher9225 management being the main problem I believe. But yeah that ambition was an issue also. And when we think of it, they should've learned that over the years. The Witcher 3 is incredible and a standout in its genre. But the Witcher 1 and 2 had a lot of flaws and mistakes made with them. Mistakes that were learnt from by the time TW3 came around. If CD wanted to hit the ground running with Cyberpunk then more care should've been put into the first few years of Dev time in my opinion.
      Working on the core systems, less hyped up press releases, delaying it a for a year. Perhaps it would've turned out different. But it's so easy for me to say in hindsight. I don't know exactly what happened there for it to go this poorly.

  • @teemut1692

    I will be ruiner for this but I think that CP2077 biggest problem is not bugs but cut content. It has been cut or not developed so much that it is more likely that CDPR do not have money, time or interest to ever fishish it... maybe CP2077 vol 2? Game's finished content is also so half baked that it is very lame and mediocre game. You cannot unleash potential what it has. Im sorry about it but I let CDPR prove me wrong.
    However, when you look this first half they have not done pretty much anything. Modders are able to do better than actual developer so it is sign that they have moved away this product and there is bare bones team to fix those endless hordes of bugs. The big question comes that how they will add content of this dumpster fire.

    So unfortunate. Hopefully CDPR will be a cautionary tale to other developers. It's really a shame that they didn't put more focus into getting the PS4 and Xbox versions running as good as they should have - I think a lot of the fallout would have been mitigated.
    I played on PC and ended up enjoying the game's story for what it was - but it was painfully obvious that the game was unfinished and lacked gigantic swathes of features that would have improved it. Glad I didn't really get sucked into the hype train and avoided any information about the game itself before release; I definitely had a better time with the game having lower expectations.

    • @JoshuaOnline
      @JoshuaOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I'm in a similar boat to you. I didn't really get involved in the hype for this game, and I feel like that's the only way you could truly enjoy elements of it.
      With that being said, if I had engaged in most trailers and interviews and invested in all the hype then I would have been bitterly disappointed with the final product. Especially on console.
      The fact that they couldn't make it run well on the PS4 and Xbox is a little mind-blowing to me still.

    • @himbourbanist
      @himbourbanist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JoshuaOnline 100% agreed. I went into the game probably as well off as one could - played on PC, didn't have any expectations, and the best of the experience I had was neutral, with brief flashes of "oh yeah, wow this is good" for a few minutes (looking at you, Panam questline)

    • @JoshuaOnline
      @JoshuaOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@himbourbanist And that was the thing that killed it for me, the game did have flashes of moments where it was incredible. But the rest lacked that something special. Not terrible, but nothing jumped out at me, apart from certain questlines.
      So if you couple a game that, if it worked perfectly, was a little underwhelming to start with, then add the game breaking bugs and glitches and the whole situation surrounding its creation and marketing, then it can only spell disaster.
      A disaster which the effects of which were doubled thanks to the hype surrounding the game and the trust put into the developers who, up til that point, had quite a stellar record.
      It all became a huge mess.

    • @himbourbanist
      @himbourbanist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JoshuaOnline Exactly. I think that brings up a big factor here as well - it wasn't just the bugs and glitches that were the problem - those can be patched out. It's the systems in the game were fundamentally unfinished or completely absent. You can patch CTDs, buggy vehicles, bad driving, stats that don't actually work, talents that don't actually work - but huge swathes of the game are left completely barebones, like the police "system" that barely interacted with the player and had no tangible reward system attached. And money basically just being used to unlock vehicles and having nearly 0 secondary purpose. These things can't just be patched over - the game is flawed to its core and that's its biggest problem.

    • @JoshuaOnline
      @JoshuaOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@himbourbanist I agree, fundamentally the game's base mechanics are not up to scratch. And if that's the case then you'll be playing catch-up the whole way through the development cycle to get any sort of product out.
      As I think(?) I say in the video, the game's world felt hollow. And I'd echo that. The systems you describe were badly implemented, and most of those lend to how the world feels. Night city didn't feel like a living breathing city.
      I attempt to put a bit of a positive spin on it likening the situation to that of No Man's Sky, these are two completely different scenarios, so the comparison may not be viable.
      I doubt we'll ever get the Cyberpunk fans envisioned unfortunately.

    Great video illustrating the problems with CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077! And let us be honest, it's over. Done. There is no coming back from it. At least for Cyberpunk 2077. The game is still undercooked, very buggy and plain mediocre. Like, unless they are secretly working on a massive overhaul, no amount of patches or dlcs can help it, if the core mechanics aren't fixed/improved. I don't think it's too much to ask of CDPR considering the resources and man power they have. I genuinely want them to turn this situation around and deliver what was promised, but as of writing this only the bare minimum has been done.

    • @JoshuaOnline
      @JoshuaOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yep, honestly it may just be too much of an uphill battle for them. If the base mechanics are flawed from the get go then that's going to take, as you say, a major overhaul. It'll be interesting to see what they do, they could just cut and run and work on the next Witcher and if that's good, I doubt they would lose TOO many sales from it.

    I worked QA for a company who did QA for MS remotely. Having to communicate with a dev team in a completely different country is very difficult. All you can do is report bugs and hope someone sees it. It's very terrible and inefficient way of testing a game. I think first party didn't get hit by this because they're already signed off on moving consoles home. Third party have to have permission. Not to say this is the direct cause, but hell it didn't help.

    When The Witcher 3 came out, I was surprised by extremely popular and hyped the game was. Like you said, barely anyone knows The Witcher 1 and 2 despite having sold over 1 million copies each after release. I have already known the game since the first one since my brother played the first game back then. He praises the game a lot too but no one that I know talked about the game. Knowing how great the trilogy was, I have always hoped that CP2077 would be a revolutionary game like they said it would. At the same time, I also thought that they're on a Mission Impossible. Alas, a Mission Impossible it is.
    I hope the two friends realise how hard it is to actually make something new. Sure, they have done a lot of things that's new to them but not exactly new to this world. The Witcher video games series were something new for CD Projekt, but RPG games have been in the world for decades. Cyberpunk 2077 however, promises to do things that almost no one have done. Perhaps many have attempted but failed or stopped at the brainstorming session realising how difficult it is. Add that to the fact that CDPR also took a step back with a second thought and continued to give The Witcher full support while they announced a completely brand new game that needed all the time they have that they should have given.
    When you have a grand ambition of making a revolutionary video game, please take a deep breath, sit back, relax and remind yourself that Star Citizen exists. Remind yourself of the current state of Star Citizen. It is exactly those ambitions that have been pulling the game back over a decade. New ambitions keep piling on while the old ambitions have yet to be realised or materialised. Even if they're not impossible, budget and time constraints exists. These two are the only thing that makes anything impossible and yet they're also we humans cannot have freely.

    • @Hzuuuu
      @Hzuuuu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also agree that the dead world is worse than the bugs. I haven't encountered as much bugs as others did in this game. But to me, the disappointment stems largely from how "nothing" the game is. The story is meh, the gameplay is meh, everything is meh. It's just a mediocre game on all fronts. I still had over 100 hours on it during the first week of release and completed all side quests because I wanted to make sure I'm not missing out on anything new introduced by the game. I explored every nook and cranny of the game. I managed to unlock a fast travel point to a place that I've never been to and would've been teleported out otherwise due to a bug. But it's still nothing. There's nothing new. There's nothing revolutionary. The game is pretty much a looter shooter with traffic and pedestrians in it. There's nothing else to be done other than talk, walk and shoot.
      The game probably would've done a lot better if it was a simple open world adventure game, with linear paths and highly curated gameplay. Most of the meh-ness of the game came from it trying to not be linear when it really is a linear game, which also brings out all of the glitches and bugs.

    There was more background info than other pieces done by other TH-camr game commentators so nice research. You did fail to mention the refund debacle between CD PR and Sony as CD PR promised refunds without consulting either MS or Sony. MS was more amenable to the Idea wheras Sony took a week or so before pulling the game from their PS store ( a first some have said not sure if thats correct). Myself was never hyped about its release or that interested, I just ate my popcorn watching the shit show unfold. Though I have played video games since pong first came out. With RPG,s being my preferance, I cannont fathom " Gamers" hyping pre-release anything. Placing expectations upon a product before it has been tested examined. Especially with the Corporate mentality that permiates the AA game franchises. Its not the first time such BS has happened either except in this case CD PR promised the moon and delivered a relection in a dirty puddle of the moon. I have Follwed in Detail this whole debacle and the product that was delivered was not what was promised. In fact I would go so far to say that Skyrim has greater depth and replayability , GTA4 has better AI,world building and depth. CD PR was way out of their depth and I suspect knew it after 2 years of developent time and made their own noose which they could not escape. I Appluad NSM team being smaller but no less ambitious they are delivering on their promises. Currently Fdev are facing same Issues with Elite Dangerous and their latest release. Even Star Citizen is creeping towards their extremly ambitious Target goals but they understood fully that development of both the hardware and Game engine needed was for the future afuture we have just entered with the current CPU's and GPU's now avaliable. CD PR could never have built the game they was aiming to make untill now but its too late for them now a reputation takes years to establish and a day to destroy.

    • @JoshuaOnline
      @JoshuaOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That whole refund thing was something I definitely thought of... But completely slipped my mind when I came to write the script. So totally my bad.
      The hit CD have taken here is major... I do think a lot rests on their next release. It simply has to be good. And in my opinion, so do the next couple of releases also. Only then will their reputation be somewhat repaired (Cyberpunk remaining as a significant blot on their record).
      I do think it was the initial work on the title that led to subsequent failures to achieve what they had set out to do. It should be a warning to other companies and to themselves going forward.

As we now know, they crunched hard to make it even run on consoles, so basic work was still being done, actual development and rework after keanu came on board was just 2-3 years. so COVID was certainly partly to blame as well, but also other developers managed to get working games out. I’ve bought this game twice. One for the PS4, one for the Xbox series X. And I played the PC version as I borrowed it from a friend. I can say that the PS4 version was definitely the worst, especially in the first four months. On the Xbox series X, I cannot compare it to it during that time. But I can say as a present, it plays very smooth. I maybe get one crash every three days on it. And very subtle glitches tend to pop up occasionally, like a temporarily invisible weapon. As of present on the PS4, it’s playable for like four hours. After four hours, the ugly scars tend to show their ugly faces once more. Not quite as terrible as it was during the first quarter of release, but shit. It’s been almost a year. And as on for the PC, I played that over the summer. And I can say that the PC version, I never crashed. And I had even more subtle glitches that would pop up rarely, like invisible text caption with dialogue. So, I can say that definitely don’t try to get it currently for the PS4. Even though it’s available on the marketplace, just don’t put yourself through that. I definitely recommend it for either a next generation console or for the PC.

    Just as I predicted in April/May, we have seen no improvements to gameplay, there is no DLC & nothing is on the horizon. The problem is delaying the game a year would've done nothing. It needed 2.5 to 3 years more time and to be an exclusive Xbox Series/PS5/PC. I got my copy in late March for $35 and expected it would eventually get better but that's not going to happen. They've removed all talk of DLC/Multi-player to come and are now saying the next-gen version will probably come out late spring/early summer. They will not get repeat buyers, eg I technically have the Xb1 version and there's no way in hell I pay them another penny. Xbox Series and PS5 are the future so they really need to support that. If they do a good job of that next year, maybe CyberPunk 2087 will be worth giving a try around 2025. Otherwise, I'll never seriously look at one of their games again. Worst triple A bait and switch ever.

    I would still call PS4 and Xbox One the "current" generation, you know... since they're the only ones 99% of the populace can currently access. Just a minor nitpick, but good job. Kinda wondering if they didn't pay the scalpers to pull this, so by the time most regular (read broke) folks like myself could buy a PS5 of Xbox whatever the hell they named it this time; there'd actually be a passable roster of games to pull from? o. O (No I don't have a tinfoil hat folks, it'd cost me too much to build one)
    I've expended about all the rage I have over having waited 2 yrs on preorder for my Xbox One copy of this game. (My PS4 broke during such time, so I actually had to choose to switch consoles since I did myself - Xbox did have a better compared library of RPG's at that point I hadn't played, or so I thought) I will say this game is a prime example of reason you should NEVER preorder. Why buy something that's not even done yet, and frankly it's giving them money for essentially free that they can technically run away with. Well played, CD Peeved Right off. Fraud is a criminal act where deception and lies are used to cause a party to part with value ($) in exchange for something they believe to be as stated. So... CDPR did commit fraud by claiming their console games were up to industry standards (which for a system as old as XBOX 360 was very few crashes and the ability to run at a rock steady 30 FPS).
    I am on PC and loved playing the game, the graphical glitches cannot be fixed IMHO as the game engine sux and until they get a better game engine you will always get 2 assets occupying the same space at the same time. But what I cant excuse them for is that they constantly change, nerf and remove exploits, items in loot boxes, etc. as the only thing that does is destroy the players enjoyment of the game and since NO ONE asked to do any of things they did in all their patches, its an insult to every player who bought their game. Watch my video on 1.2 sux and 1.3 sux to see what I am talking about.
    Fixing the graphical glitches would be nice, fixing the lack of immersion compared to Witcher 3 would be nice, fixing the AI would be nice, fixing the Cop interactions would be nice, fixing the player's character customization would be nice, making a harder difficulty would be nice, making a new game + would be nice, and making a Co-op and PVP online gaming experience as an option would be nice, but NO ONE asked CDPR to get rid of any exploits, or change the game play, or nerf Netrunner builds, or nerf gun damage, etc. But...what do you expect from a company that lie to you to get $, and react to all the hate that people put on them, I guess they hate on us back.

    • @JoshuaOnline
      @JoshuaOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess they're focusing on the wrong areas for the updates, but it's hardly a surprise as they didn't focus in the right areas in production.
      Imo exploits that add to the game instead of detracting anything shouldn't be altered, the game already has taken a hit on its player base, why take additional hits by, as you say, fixing things that no one really wanted to be fixed.
      We'll have to see if the Fraud issue is resolved in court (or out of it). I'm not sure it has to this day (?)

    I'm no game developer and I've never so much as written a line of code for anything productive, but why do developers multi-task on various elements of a game like multi-player, city creation, rpg aspects etc etc instead of concentrating on one thing at a time?
    Lets say you wanted a game to be a fps like Cyberpunk. Why doesn't every dev at a given company concentrate on how exactly this fps works and how the character moves and feels and fleshes out what a basic character build would be versus an intermediate and so on and so forth.
    Then after you have the gameplay concepts down, you focus on how that gameplay is going to be best used and experienced in a given map of a game. thus moving on to the actual Sandbox or "world" of a game.
    Perhaps i sound like a complete amateur and i am, but i just never understood why game companies have to have 10 different irons in the fire during development and then slapping em together and hope it all works together with seemingly no communication like i heard with CDPR. it just seems so sloppy.

      How developers make games and the process that goes into doing so has always been an interest of mine. Thinking of doing a quick guide with all the different methods of development all the other companies use.
      My rather uneducated take on it is that developers have different teams working on a particular element on a game. They work quite close with one another so that everything works together.
      I wonder if some companies DO use your model of development. If they do focus on one aspect first before moving on to the next one. I'd be interested to research it when I get the chance.

    One thing few have mentioned is that much of the clusterfuck that is Cyberpunk is due to massive diversity hiring. The W3 team vs the CP team is like night and day and the results show. Look at how many people bailed during the making of CP. That should tell you a lot about what was going on behind the scenes. Incompetent people hired to promote an agenda results in shitty programming. The "they took on more than they could handle" is just a cope to spin what went wrong.

    Great video. I have to say that maybe people should have read the water mark at the top of that demo, I remember when that came out and people were acting as if that was the final game. On top of that just because some nice guy is in the game I have no idea why that was some sort of guarantee of it being good. At the end of the day a lot of things people are angry about is down to their own exaggerated expectations of Cyberpunk 2077 and blind faith in a company of all things. The game released in an unacceptable state and CDPR got what they deserved but the double standards of so many people is laughable, even Fallout 76, Anthem and all the rest never got this kind of hate and backlash. Personally when it comes to the game I actually love it, but then again I picked it up for practically nothing, after patch 2.0, never took any notice of promises made by people wanting your money, playing on a high end rig with a 3080RTX and modded it from the start to fix a lot of the remaining problems. Frankly the only problems I have had are a few graphical glitches and the odd tiny bug, for me its way more than I ever expected from a company who I had never taken any notice of or played any Witcher game.

      The main thing causing those double standards is the people's hopes being so high. While there was hype for fallout 76 AND Anthem, players knew the reputation of those companies going into their respective games. (Bethesda is known for bugs on console systems) Most were either unaware or just blind to CDPROJEKTRED'S previous shortcomings with their Witcher games. All that hope built up, hype came with it, expectations were dragged up also, and they were simply shattered upon people playing the game. Plus with the delays people thought they were due to get something good. And they should have got something better than what was presented at launch. But you're right, there are no guarantees.
      The fact remains that CD knowingly withdrew any footage of the game running on the older gens of consoles.
      I agree though, I loved the game. I hadn't followed the production of the game that closely pre-launch and therefore had little expectations. If I had, I would've been very upset at the promises and deceit used by the company. I went into the video with an open mind, thinking that it could turn out that CDProjekt had an easy to defend reason for their actions, but as the research process went on, I found I couldn't defend it. I could only try to put the point across that this company (although they've created incredibly personal experiences) are not your friends. They will do anything in their power to keep themselves afloat.
      Edit: with the unaware and blind thing I'm talking about the new player base CD had appealed to.

      Do you play many games? I have a hunch that you dont.
      We were promised by CDPR, for 8 years(!), a first person open ended RPG with a countless number of innovative next gen things to look forward too. Who says that? only CDPR. Never have I heard a game company big up their game so much.., but instead were sold a first person linear action adventure game which you can complete in less that 15 hours. How is this "people are angry about is down to their own exaggerated expectations of Cyberpunk 2077 and blind faith in a company of all things"? We were told one thing and sold another mate. We are swindled. CDPR didnt realise they were swindling people, its not scam, just a massively irresponsible company with no real desire to please anyone but themselves. Im not saying the game was shit, it just wasnt what we were told it was going to be.

    they couldn't make a game in 8 years with all the money and hype in the world how can they make a good game now? would they need 20-30 years to make a game? done when ready like Star citizen? CDPR screams of incompetence and greed. The lead ques designer left almost all side quests unfinished and called them "open ended" as form of art decision. CDPR wasted time on including journalists and youtubers like Alana Pierce. And now the game is one big pile of trash CDPR is one big pile of thrash they leaked data lied to us to investors and getting sued

      To be honest, Cyberpunk winning awards for this trojan horse of a game points to how bad games have become, how deceptive marketing is accepted by the industry, and how corrupt the "review" system is.
      Look at how many professional reviewers heaped praise on the broken mess that the game was at release...
      Cyberpunk 2077 winning awards is an indictment of the entire industry.
