The question does Q10 help improve kidney function.

I haven’t seen any good evidence for this as yet

NO ASPIRIN EVER THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME

Sorry to hear this. When taken as directed, regular use of aspirin shouldnt increase the risk of kidney disease in people who have normal kidney function. Taking doses that are too large may temporarily- and possibly permanently- reduce kidney function.

Dr sophie, I'm not going to argue about the accuracy of what you said, but your sentences are very negative and they really affect these patients negatively.

I’m sorry to hear you think that, I always try and give an honest review of a condition, which can include aspects which can be difficult for patients, but important to be aware of. I always focus on what can be done to help with conditions and prevent complications. What specifically do you think I said which was overly negative?

@@DrSophieGP I think it would be better if you could end this on a more upbeat note. I would like to use this video for my patients as it is excellent and well explained but the last part about kidney failure and dialysis would alarm them. And maybe too much information to take in in one go? When you mention CKD to patients they often jump to 'will i need dialysis or a transplant'. The majority of our patients remain in CKD3 (and die of CVD as you said) so putting ESRF into context that it is relatively rare and only affects a small number of patients is important I think. I would also end on a positive note that there are lots of things that patients and their GP can do to reduce CVD death and prevent ESRF, empowering patients to make changes to prevent deterioration, rather than causing alarm which often means the other important messages are lost.

@@ek5327 So it perhaps would have benefitted from an extra sentence at the end reiterating that most CKD is mild etc? I didn’t want to omit discussing ESRF and I did only mention it briefly, I spent the vast majority of time discussing what people can do to reduce their risks of complications and CVD. I’ll ensure I try and end on a positive note for future videos. Hopefully there’s lots of my videos you will find helpful to share with your patients!

@@DrSophieGP sorry never replied back, spoken to patient today with CKD3 terrified about dialysis which reminded me. Yes I think ending it reinterating most CKD is moderate not needing ESRF and there are things patients can do to reduce their risks to empower. Patient often remember the last things better. In a two way consultation I think it is easier to discuss dialysis etc and answer fears but in videos obviously is not possible.
