You are a leader in creating atmospheric indie games-don’t forget that. You have the talent and vision; don’t let the pressure hold you back. Focus on making great games, even without publishers. Your TH-cam audience and social media presence are powerful tools, enough to give your game an initial boost on the Steam charts. Believe in yourself, Thomas. I know you can do it, and I’m eagerly waiting for your next game.
Thomas you said the truest thing of all that you have 3 kids and pray to god that this game earns for at least 3 yrs... that's the kind of motivation that everybody needs !
Also another thing to consider. What are the tools you're using ? Making an FPS is a lot easier when you use blender+UE5 cause UE was built for a FPS shooter in mind (unreal tournament) You could feasibly make a cod clone solo in a couple months with enough experience using blender and ue4 or 5
Some asset and music producers want to be credited in a game. Where in the game should I mention them when I plan to make a game that could be over 100 hours long ? Should I create a "credits menu" that can be enter straight from the beginning or is it enough to mention them at the end of the game when the player has completed it ?
if you have full control of the project you can go even further than just naming them in a credits menu, you can link to their personal pages, this is typically what is done with small indie startups
older movies put the main credits right up front in the beginning. could theoretically do something similar! (don't do it as a credit scroll tho, something creative is better in this case)
Yeah. I would suggest DeArrow if you want better youtube video titles. The current one with the plugin is "Part of a Podcast Episode with Xalavier Nelson Jr About Resource Management in Game Dev" which looks more accurate to me.
Hey i dont really no what to look for in a labtop. Can anyone tell me what kind of specs i should look for when starting out? I cant afford an expensive btw 😔
well the point of this video and the full interview if you watch it is that you should start working on a game that would take you 3-14 ish days, or like a month of 1-2 hours a day after work. which is harder to do than to say of course! and if you had a studio and making games was your job, it would be easy as that, to start a new project.
i really like your motivational contents, but getting started and getting materials for the game making is kind of easy compare to before, i was making 3d games, but now i lost my gpu so making 2d games now, actually 2.5D games, anyway best thing is keep on making work on it everyday, learn new things everyday try new things everyday, that is the best thing
@@boad8270 Indie means "independent"; ie... self-published and self-funded, independent of outside forces/sources. The moment you take a publisher, you are financed and no longer indie.
Feels like the quality of your videos are going down and that you are mainly trying to republish stuff / market your game dev course. Like others said, the title "How To Start Making Games (The RIGHT Way)" is misleading and is 1. not living up to what is promised and 2. mostly a shorter version of your interview. I know you can produce great content but this is not it.

"You can make a game in three days if you build the type of game to make in three days". This will always stick with me

Loved this video. it was exactly what I needed to hear !
I talked to myself about this the other day. Making a game i can finish. Love the content
Thomas. I love your games because they are weird, and for me is a great thing.❤ Just wanted to say that. Keep it up.

im using godot
Thomas is using Unity as a game engine, and he creates 3D models with Blender, as I've seen.
I hope you and your kids are covered by your passion man, learning a lot!
yo it's the guy from the new noodle video
"we will not choice a solution to any problem that makes it more than 3 weeks" key perspective
Great guest. Host...
Need more Tuts on getting good graphics in 3D (on stylized or low poly or similar to your game Twister Tower)
you're a legend Thomas, and this one was my favorite ever.

I would do both, you do one list and use that in both places.
@@raphaeld9270 Thanks :)

Well you don't have to worry right now, start making it first. This isn't a real problem.

Really good tips here, love this talk.
Yo alexrak2, I love your games man
❤❤❤❤
This video contains some really solid advice, but it doesn't warrant this title and it's just a part from the podcast, not really it's own video

@@raphaeld9270 haha yeah I added that title with DeArrow because it annoyed me actually 😊
Great talk as always!
Thomas Brush , Brushing the Indie Developers to Be their best Version! Thank you!

@@avalancherelapse yeah its like this guy missed the whole point of the video
Men of culture i see.... But i understand the idea of video.... I mean sometimes finsiding small project is hard
That's completely normal. You gotta go step by step and put years into this, maybe.
awesome talk

The moment you sign with a publisher, you are no longer making an indie game. LOL 😂
It's like trying to be alone in a relationship. LOL.
thats just not true either tough, indie doesn't just mean solo dev

@@boad8270 it's true that indie doesn't mean alone. you can be an indie team without a publisher.
Thomas sometimes scares me with his intense stairs
Nice interview - interesting as always.
I want to make games to tease and entertain people. I might get there I guess
I haven’t tried any of the games cause they are 4x more than I would pay. But they do look like fun for a day.
First!

I have to agree. In a 12 and a half minute video, the guest talked less than 5 minutes.
There not really a properly defined advice in this cut from podcast
