    I've had my LP60XBT since last fall, and it really is a nice budget turntable. However, I did change two things on mine that I highly recommend if you already have one of the 60 series turntables, and that is to replace the felt platter mat with an acrylic mat. I found it opens up the midrange and get's rid of the slightly muddy sound. Second I replaced the stock AT3600l stylus and upgraded to the LP Gear CFN3600LE elliptical stylus. I simply snaps in place like the original. The elliptical stylus sits lower in the grooves and tracks better than the conical stylus and gives you crisper sounds and more bass. Both upgrades will cost around $60-$70

      By the time you put all that into an LP60, you could have just bought an LP3 which is a vastly better product.

      Oh yeah, you're absolutely right. The LP60X can sound more like a 500 dollar turntable with the changes people like you have made. LP Gear's elliptical stylus is the main key to this, nothing wrong with the stock conical mindyou, but the elliptical is made for complete tracking precision. Bluetooth should also sound wonderful with an elliptical stylus on this, and given the fact that it streams with the aptx codec, well, that's the big attraction when it comes to wireless turntables these days.

      Im about to ramble, heads up, got a few solid points to ramble through lol. None of this is said with ANY piss n vinegar whatsoever. All love for the extended vinyl family!!!
      Phanshtiel make a alloy cantilever elliptical diamond stylus for this turntable cartage (it out performs the LP gear elliptical in my experience, even tho it's a .4, not .3 elipse) by the model name 4211-DE that cost's less then the stock audio technica stylus.
      If you've progressed in the hobby to the point of turntable upgrades to improve sound and character though, you should really be looking into upgrading your deck entirely. There ARE tables on the market for LESS then you paid for those two upgrades that are superior to the lp60 in every way, shape, and form.
      Neither the LP gear stylus, NOR the 4211-DE is really designed to run at the tracking force of the lp60 though either. When i had the lp gear i hd to stack 2 nickels and a dime on the back of the tone arm to get an acceptable low-end/sibilance balance. And doing so completely threw off the decks (non adjustable) anti skate. (those of you who have done the same may have noticed an increase in *backwards skips you have to time a deck tap with to pass.
      To run the 4211-DE i had to put 2 quarters and a nickle on the back of the tone arm, but somehow the in built anti skate functions as intended with this stylus, so i immediately preferred it. The high end clarity and detail was on par with the lp gear, Channel and individual instrument separation and inner groove distortion were both less however.
      I've since upgraded to a gemeni tt4000 (seriously surprised this didnt steal a large market share from the at-lp120), and i payed less for it then i did the lp60. Adjustable counterweight, adjustable anti-skate, removable 1/2 universal headshell, adjustable tone arm height, pitch/speed correction, and a 60hz strobe on the platter.... And came with the same cart stock so i was able to hold on to all my aftermarket stili (my ex roommate had a fluance deck with an ortofon 2m red, and my current setup, that objectively out performs the lp60 doesnt even really compare, has only ever received an AT91e cart as upgrade (when i wear out my several stili that fit it and the 3600, ill look into the ortofon blue probably, cant wait for that).... And we still haven't hit a $500 deck yet, mind you... We just hit $350. I've had the pleasure of auditioning truly high end moving coil cart setups as well. And ill tell you right now, NONE of us even know what were talking about when it comes to the detail and sound quality thats recoverable from quality vinyl pressings.
      Inner groove distortion, which was completely unavoidable on the lp60, is almost completely and totally a thing of the past for me. I only payed $105 for the tt4000 on sale. regular price is less than the lp60 current price
      I hate to be the pride killer here, but the lp60 can never sound like a $500 deck unless the $500 deck was tuned by someone clueless about how a turntable actually functions, or is unaware these are precision instruments that deal with microscopic tolerances... it's objectively impossible, it cant even sound like a cheaper turntable in many contexts, let alone a more expensive one.
      That is NOT it's purpose or niche though. It isn't an audiophile's piece of hardware to analyze every detail of, and squeeze extra performance out of. It's designed to fill a specific roll, while not sounding bad at the same time. And that's what it does, but that's ALL it does.
      That being said, the lp60 does sound good, its very pleasant on the ears, and it very much has a niche that it fills perfectly. Comparing it to a $500 turntable as far as sound goes though, that's pretty absurd. Just about anything on the market from a reputable manufacture $200 and up will blow you away, if what you're used to is an lp60 with an over-weighted elliptical diamond attached to a (literally) plastic cantilever.
      It has it's place, mine stays in the living room hooked to the home theater system through a cheap Fosi audio external phono stage. And every time someone's over and i play a record, i use that setup for simplicity, and i only ever get compliments and surprise at how good the records sound. But then eventually comes "you havent heard anything yet" as i lead them to the listening room downstairs lol. And this is just comparing the lp60 (entry point) to a gemeni tt4000 (the absolute VERY bottom of the scale when it comes to user upgradable or serviceable units)
      YMMV, but probably not by much.

    I was told to spend $400-$500 on a turntable by friends. Got a Denon 300 DP 300F only to have the antiskate break in the first week. You would drop the needle carefully and the stylus would skip a few seconds into the next track. Got the Fluance RT85 next and it had crazy issues with distortion and loud static popping. While I was dealing with their terrible customer service I picked up an LP60X for $139 and it worked great and sounded way better than I expected. I have decided to just stick with the LP60X and use the savings on records. It gets the job done quite well.

    • @31cify
      @31cify 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, of course it does. This turntable produces the sort of fidelity that can convincingly rival other brands you've mentioned. Even more so when you replace the stock conical stylus with something like LP Gear's specially designed elliptical.

    I got this a couple years ago and it's a really good entry turntable. It's really good for someone who just wants to get into it, especially with it having bluetooth and being automatic. I've since upgraded (to a Fluance RT82) but if someone was looking for an entry level turntable, this would definitely be one of the cheapest I'd feel comfortable recommending.

      There's no such thing as a 'entry' turntable, that's audiophile snobbery talk, they just can't bear these players, as they've spent 100s or 1000s on a table really aren't worth it. Let your ears do the talking.

    Wow, great finding! I could tell from very early in the video there was something wrong with the belt because the platter was spinning freely, and it also seemed to have a tendency to turn counter-clockwise on its own, which can be due to the platter being unbalanced or the turntable not being leveled. Great video! 👍

    I've got the non-BT version that I bought cheap because it had a defect that turned out to be a factory mess up. One thing I like is that it has a metal platter, which is something that many other entry level TTs don't have and I really don't care for plastic platters. Anyway, I modified mine to run on 3-speeds and I ordered the 78 needle for it.

    My 20 year old LAB-1200 finally died (still plays but will randomly start going wwaayyyy fast or slow). The LP60 is what I'm considering for replacement. Oh yeah, I can imagine. Look after it well and it's all you'd ever really need. I've had the 60x for 3 years now, but have made a couple of modifications to it since last year. The felt mat has been replaced by acrylic and the conical stylus with an elliptical. I think the 60X is an ideal candidate for beneficial little upgrades like this.

I’d never heard of Enoch Light before your channel, but now I grab them whenever I find one. :) I do think the LP Gear elliptical cartridge for this player is an improvement on the AT3600 - you can get it in combination with a new belt, from LP Gear. You can also replace the standard feet with the rubber ones that reduce vibration transfer.

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Insignia is adjustable But remember the cartridge determines the tracking force… So depending on which one you use it would need to be adjusted. This LP 60 uses a 3600l cartridge which tracks rather heavy at 3.5 to 4.5 g. It is also not upgradable. However it is a fantastic turntable and will do no damage.

I can play them on my BSR as well as the few 16rpm records that I have, but I want to wait until I can find a stand alone cabinet for it as right now it's part of the Fisher 125 stereo I have and the pots and switches are all about clapped out on it to the point where deoxit only fixes them for about a week. The turntable still works great though.

      You can leave it at 12" and before you push play push the button that holds the arm up. Then you can eyeball where you drop the needle, also hopefully the record says the speed on it I has some 7 inches be 45 and others 33

    Its not a 'beginner' turntable, its a well priced player that is fully auto & gives a great sound. If you want to spend silly money on complicated manual fussy players then go ahead, but this one is just great. For comparison think cars ie Ferrari or a VW MPV, which would you choose as a family car? and does a great all round job.

    Got me one of these and used it quite a bit with just headphones plugged into the back. No issues. Until one day, using only headphones again. My wife came up, mid-track, from her office to tell me my song was playing through her jabba speaker in the middle of a meeting. Not sure how my device split its signal from headphones and BT, and her BT speaker took signal from two inputs at once but now my LP60XBT has no Bluetooth hardware in it anymore.

    Well all I can say is you and VWestlife have the greatest thrift stores up in northern NJ here we have junk if they have something like a TT it is broken like missing the tonearm which I did see once and it cost more than what you paid for yours also the tone arm counterbalance is not weighted but uses a spring. VWestlife reviewed the same TT but without BT but that's wad great for u to find and this is best way to start my holiday weekend by watching Record -O-LOGY thanks again JRo📀

      I ran into the exact same thing: three years ago, I scooped up a beautiful silver AT-LP60USB with a flawless appearance (near-new dust cover) for $13 at GW because somebody thought it didn't work. A bit later, one of those end-of-the-month-I'm-moving roadside deals, I acquired a fully functional and very nice looking LP60 (minus USB or BT) for FREE. I already had an LP-60USB that had been gifted to me five years ago, so I have three of the original series. The new LP-60X series has some refinements to the tonearm to slightly reduce resonances, plus you aren't constrained by the integrated two-foot connection cable. Thanks for your video!

    Brilliant buy for $20 !
    I think the previous owner,tried to set it up wrong,and couldn’t get it working-hence he just took $20 for it,just to get rid of it-but you scored well,getting it for that price,it would’ve been nice to have had the proper power supply,45 rpm adapter,and connecting cables,and instruction manual-but I guess,had it been complete he would’ve asked a lot more then $20 dollars for it !!

    I've been into vinyl for a long time, before it was considered hip and cool. Everyone keeps talking about how great this turntable is but then keep referring to it using phrases like "entry-level" and "beginners turntable" etc. as if it is an inferior turntable that only "beginners" would be caught using. Yet, they won't say why. It's as if "advanced" turntable users (audiophiles) are staring at people using this turntable and laughing at them behind their back. Why? Because they are listening to the same records on turntables that cost them $1200+? I'm curious what your take on an "entry level" versus a "non-entry level" turntable is. Thanks for the video review and demo.

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question! I think the general consensus is that a beginner turntable does not reflect the quality one way or another, but simply the price point. For instance, this turntable is excellent quality, but is less expensive than others. Because it is highly recommended it is arguably a better deal than other turntables at the same price point. Other things that can make a turntable like this a beginner is the fact that it does not have an upgradable cartridge or the fact that it has limitations in terms of functionality.

      @@Recordology Thanks for the reply. I currently use a Technics 1200MK2 which I had held over from my DJ days. I got to thinking bluetooth and/or built in preamp would be nice, perhaps a Fluance RT85N (can get a free PA10 preamp right now with purchase of one) or maybe just this Audio Technica model for now as an "upgrade" more suitable to hifi listening as opposed to DJ'ing. Or perhaps just upgrading to a better preamp and cartridge is in order. Anyway, thanks again and appreciate your review.

    I've got the Denon variant of this same design the DP-29F which cost me £99, the tone arm on that can be a bit abrupt in dropping on auto start. (This variant does not have the tone arm lift for manual cuing just auto start and stop) So I need to get some damping fluid in there at some point. Much better sound quality than the ceramic red cart decks that are everywhere.
