This is a terrible sample size I admit, but I tried to chat up two Singaporean girls in a bar in Shanghai years ago. I tried to break their iceberg level of frostiness by telling them they had really good British accents and asking if they were from the UK. "No", they replied in their snootiest private school Received Pronunciation British English "We are from Sing-A-Pore". It was clear that they wanted no more of this conversation so I slunk off.

"Stop trying to survive, spend less, be contented and just live. Wealth comes from being grateful with what you have, solving problems, empathy and kindness" -- I just keep nodding throughout your video. Couldn't agree more Ken. You are a true person that creates value in the society, not like some youtubers with millions of net worth yet putting ads every 15 secs. Appreciate people like you!

Hi Ken, fellow Singaporean here. Have been binging on cafe money and your videos. While I thoroughly enjoy your thoughts on Tsla and the stock market, this video by far takes the cake. I reasonate so much with you beacause I was constantly labelled as a cheapstake and sometimes it really trims me down mentally. Then I was reminded that with financial freedom, I can do more with my time for a greater good i.e. volunteering and coaching my children to be a better human being. Thank you for your contribution to the community!

I remember being 24 and spending too much; living with my parents and having credit card debt.
I stopped that BS. Now I’m 29, great job, no debt, and over 6 fig net worth. I’m frugal don’t spend outrageously. Cheap rent, 16 year old car. Enjoying life way more than when I spent more.
Peace doesnt come from spending, it comes when you know you have a mind to make choices to provide security for your friends and family and make sure they never go hungry or are homeless. None of my friends or family will ever be on the street or without meal, EVER.
My portfolio dumped 40% recently with Tesla stop. I didn’t sell a single share. I bought. People have no patience during drops.

I drive a couple of used audis, including a roadster I rebuilt myself. I live in an apartment where I designed and built most of my furniture. I also redesigned my apartment and redecorated. I even restored some leather vintage furniture too and got some really great deals on some high end chairs off craigslist. My bills total about $1500 a month, I run a business from home that nets me around $70k a year, I invest about 25% of my income and at 41, I spend two hours a day training jiu jitsu and muay thai. I read in the morning, wake up when I want and know all my neighbors on a first name basis. I’m not always happy but I am content.

If I could like this twice I would. I gave up a well paid job and retired when I was 51. Now 5 years later, I still have enough. Many of my former colleagues, having earned another £500k after tax in those 5 years are still not happy, still buying cars on HP and moaning they will never retire. It’s actually quite sad. My wife and I get by comfortably on less than 1/4 of our former salaries, yet we are happy with our lot. We have enough, we invest a bit, earn a bit and spend a bit. Some of the most enjoyable and fulfilling things can be experienced for free. Great life lesson.
