In south central Wisconsin, we pot up the Black And Blue salvias and over winter in our east facing window well. I cover the plastic window well cover with an opaque heavy plastic sheet that reduces the light, and this method will yield a large plant ready to go when the weather warms in March/April. Removing the opaque sheet and letting the light in will jumpstart the plant, and by mid to late April, it is time to harden off the new growth that is a foot and a half tall. I will probably prune back at this time, as the new growth could be less spindly. Very happy with this method!
Wow, that is great. I am going to have to try and rig something up. I have a brick wall that overwintered a Canna Lily and that wasn't supposed to happen. I need to try it.
Great video!, I have 10 different salvia's in my garden, but not got this black and blue one, this one looks absolutely amazing!, I really need to get one soon
0:180:20 we bought black and bloom giant salvia last year and this year it bloomed when it was 5-6feet tall. Can you cut them halfway back to about 2 1/2 feet? And it bloom again.?
Thanks. I have been deadheading a lot, but do you fertilize with either Miraclegro or a bloom booster high middle number for your container salvias? I have lots of new varieties this year in containers.

Really helpful! Got surprised with this plant recently and now have to learn how to take care of it!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, I have been afraid to deadhead but not anymore
I have a Salvia microphylla 'Heatwave Brilliance' and this video was really helpful! Thank you!

Ordinarily, salvia can be cut back after first bloom, so I don't see any reason that this B&B would be any different. I may try that on mine.
Thank you for this video. Do you ever fertilize it? If so, what type of fertilizer do you recommend?
Yes I do! I like the Osmocote time release about twice a season.

I just fertilize with a regular plant food. Only occasionally have I used bloom booster ( but I really think it may just be for "marketing.")
sugestion put it in a bucket and let it soak for while insted of water going out
save water
I will try that too.
