In all fairness this is how all of StingStorm's songs go. First time you write it off as just being not as good as the others. Then you listen to it again, and the next thing you know you have a playlist of StingStorm songs and all of them rock like a horde of orks charging the Eye of Terror and you wonder how you ever thought any of them could possibly be less than masterpieces. Personally, I just think StingStorm is a psyker and beguiles all of us.
I do love that the song could apply equally to both the Dark Angels and the Fallen (which also says just how much of a mess that whole situation really is all things considered).
Thought about this too as I was listening to the lyrics. It seems the song shifts partway through from the perspective of the loyal Angels to that of the Fallen.

Interesting times for the Dark Angels, I gotta say.
I love how in the beginning this song is from the perspective of what I assume to be an interrogator chaplain. Possibly Asmodai. And as the song continues it gradually shifts into the perspective of one of the risen (finally the fallen). Eventually ending with the chaplain catching up to him and saying that all familiar motto to the sons of the Lion. Repent today, for tomorrow you die

No longer is their honor bright, no longer do their vengence burn, nothing but dark embers glow within them

Listening to this I can't help but think that, any Fallen that wants to live, would not use their old heraldry... Unless they explicitly want their loyal brothers to come for them. In that respect, I wonder how often the 1st get's baited into a trap in their blind hunt for the Fallen. How many Fallen have pulled Alpha-Legion-level-shenanigans on their loyalist counterparts by manipulating their pursuers into attacking their comrades out of paranoia? For instance what if I, a hypothetical Fallen Lord, had one of my trusted lieutenants wear my old Legion liveries. I send that lieutenant out with a portion of the warband to raid a world, and make sure that footage of my lieutenant (or whoever he put in the armor) get's back to the big names of the Dark Angels. Maybe it could be 'leaked' to a curious Inquisitor. Maybe there's an Inquisitor *already* on my tail, so I use this as a chance to give him/her precisely what they're looking for... ...But, then I find some way to anonymously warn my loyal brothers that an Inquisitor has seen the Fallen. Suddenly, conflict. In that conflict; I can slip away while the two factions squabble -- any plundering of the original weak world, is a bonus. Any casualties the Dark Angels or Inquisition wreaks on another -- another bonus, for it is less people following me either way. Then, silence. The old Legion-armor goes back in my personal armory. Of course, the Dark Angels will surely be curious as to whether or not anyone in my warband knows where this mysterious Fallen *went,* so should anything come of it maybe I could forcibly mindscrub some of my lesser warriors and deliberately place them in an ideal position to be captured while combatting the Angels. ...You know, writing this made me want to start up an Alpha Legion warband led by an Alpharius who is secretly a Fallen.
By Slaanesh. That level of conspiracy and treachery and mind-fuckery will make the Lord of Change proud. Good work man. You really nailed the conflict of the Dark Angels very well.
It's been implied that Dark Angels psykers can sense when a son of the Lion is nearby. This allows them to pick out Fallen from the crowd. This ability is not foolproof, as the First has been baited into traps with it. From the 8e Codex: -Sometime between M31 and M34, the Dark Angels and their successors embarked on a campaign around the Eye of Terror following Cypher. They took heavy casualties, and the Lions Sable successor chapter was wiped out to a man. Details were concealed, and the conflict became known as the Forgotten Wars. -Sometime between M37 and M39, the Dark Angels attacked the planet Zambeque, as its governor was a Fallen (how an 8ft superhuman with the Black Carapace became governor is a testament to the Imperium's raging incompetence). They were ambushed by his Alpha Legion allies; the Deathwing's intervention saved them, but the Fallen governor escaped. -Sometime between M40 and M41, the Dark Angels ran a Fallen down, but before they could secure him, Harlequins appeared, kidnapped the Fallen, and escaped from the First's wrath. -Also between M40 and M41, Supreme Grand Master Naberius was pursuing Cypher when he was led into an ambush and slain. His death saw Azrael ascend to become Supreme Grand Master. -During the Noctis Aeterna, the Dark Angels and half a dozen successors descended on the planet Darkmor, hunting an enclave of Fallen. What they found was an ambush, and they took the worst casualties seen since the Forgotten Wars. Only the Ultima Founding brought them back to full strength.
@@LordFhalkyn That's interesting. I actually wonder if a librarian's senses could be confused by integrating samples of a Fallen's DNA into the disguise. Perhaps some kind of... Psychically resonant pendant containing a lock of a Fallen's beauteous golden hair could give just that little bit of doubt. Or perhaps, have a sorcerer outright obscure the individual within the warp. The First would therefore know that this chaos lord has *something* to hide, but when denied certainty they will need to fall back on what they can physically see: the armor.

I've been reading a Sci-Fi unrelated to Warhammer 40K recently called "The Nature of Predators." This song fits a faction called the Krakotl Alliance so well. They are basically the Fallen with actual wings XD.
Imagine the Lion wakes up and sees his sons: "Sons even when I thought you couldn't disappoint me more than you already did, you do... I gonna take a nap again!"
In the pages of the Dictionarium Imperium, there are no words under its entry for "irony." Instead, there is but an image of a Dark Angel. Those who do not know the truth are confused by this. Those who do tend to nod silently to themselves in agreement, for the handful of seconds it takes for Asmodai to teleport behind them. Same thing happens with its entry for "paranoia."
Dark angels, it’s almost hypocritical the name. Angels are beings of light and purity with wings that that gleam with hope for all those who follow And yet calling them dark says they have no light, that their purity was corrupted and that their wings were cut once they brought despair. But this is the name of these space Marines because they are angels but ones that have been corrupted whose wings were ripped from their back’s and who is the light faded when they’re brothers fell to heresy. But they remain angels because they are greater than simple beings of light for their light may be dim but it cuts through the darkness of heresy and shine light that can Guide even a blind man So brothers let us Pay for the sins of our traitor brothers By spilling the heretic blood that now flows through their veins
That's just a selective (dare I say: heretical?) point of view. Angels are messengers of a higher power, sent out to carry a message not of their own making - no more, no less. They do not always come bearing merely word of Good Message (and you should fear those that do, for they might be the heretical sons of Lorgar!) which is why it has been true since time immemorial that unless they tell you that "you should not fear" - you should dread their coming, for the message they bring might be "I Am Wroth" and "Repent, For Tomorrow You Die".

In all fairness this is how all of StingStorm's songs go. First time you write it off as just being not as good as the others. Then you listen to it again and you start to hear the parts that make sense and are clever.
Stringstorm's songs are all like that. First listen is usually a bit iffy, but by the third or fourth time you're screaming out the lyrics.
The Stringstorm Effect at its' finest.
Heck, present this to an Abrahamic follower who has never heard of WH40K and they could easily think it's about the War in Heaven.

The Lion has awoken, and not only that, but he has forgiven the Fallen that have not turned to Chaos; Taking the Fallen in as the Risen, the Lion himself even stated he did not seek to open their wounds of the past and is focused on protecting the Imperium through his Lion's Protectorate.

I always viewed the second half of the song as being not from the perspective of the dark angels, but as the perspective of the fallen, running fighting to survive, some still under the mistaken belief that either the lion, or luther had betrayed them, they fear losing control of themselves to chaos, and they know their repentance for their actions can only result in death, it might just be a different perspective on the dark angels, but it made sense to me that way

I love how the first part of the song is in the perspective of the dark Angels during their heresy/soon after where their rage and vengence against their traitor brother burns as bright as their honor. But the second part is the modern dark Angels, fearing their weakness, their traitorous Brothers, fearing their secret. No longer is their honor bright, no longer do their vengence burn, nothing but dark embers glow within them

Shh... I'm hunting traitors...
The lion has awoken
Combining this song and The Lion Awakes makes this an amazing saga
Quite often. Cypher has frequently played this very trick. Heck, it's even suspected one or more members of the Nova Terra Imperium were Fallen.
It's been implied that Dark Angels psykers can sense when a son of the Lion is nearby. This allows them to pick out Fallen from the crowd.
This ability is not foolproof, as the First has been baited into traps with it. From the 8e Codex:
-Sometime between M31 and M34, the Dark Angels and their successors embarked on a campaign around the Eye of Terror following Cypher.
I will add on that, from what I've just read, the Fallen are very keenly aware of how to exploit their brethren's inclinations.
"What is this Chapter's function?!? The Dark Angels actions don't make any sense!"
"Have paranoid people ever made any sense?"
"Oh...."
in the 41st millennium, only the actions of a paranoid lunatic makes any sense.

Done my Chapter proud. FOR THE LION! FOR THE EMPEROR!
You win the internet for today.
Dark angels, it’s almost hypocritical the name.
Angels are beings of light and purity with wings that that gleam with hope for all those who follow
And yet calling them dark says they have no light, that their purity was corrupted and that their wings were cut once they brought despair.
But this is the name of these space Marines because they are angels but ones that have been corrupted whose wings were ripped from their back’s and who is the light faded when they’re brothers fell to heresy.
But they remain angels because they are greater than simple beings of light for their light may be dim but it cuts through the darkness of heresy and shine light that can Guide even a blind man
So brothers let us Pay for the sins of our traitor brothers By spilling the heretic blood that now flows through their veins
