Whenever people say Eleanor Powell was 'the best tapper ever', you need to show them this clip.
Ann's movies at Colpix are always written off as Bs, not least by Miller herself, but they were better than that; they were programmers or double features, and the production values were adequate. So was the staging of the numbers (albeit they were fewer than at Fox or Metro) and the dancing of the chorus was usually taut- an acid test of musicals' budgeting.
The glacial pace of racial integration quickened during WW2. Americans were 'all in it together' and concessions had to be made on screen. So Rochester gets a walk-on in front of white girls, which would not have occurred before 1942.
Incidentally, Eddie Anderson owned a factory in W. Hollywood which made parachutes for the forces.
