The Mazda is a 6th-Generation Familia (1989-1994). In Japan was known as Familia, in the rest of the world as 323 (if hatchback), and Protege (if sedan, in the US). The turbocharged, rally-racing spec GTRs were built in 1992. This is a special little car and to me, the best in this set.
The Pantera & the 323 GTR 😮🥰... And by the way, the 323 GT-R (& GTX) was Mazda's entry into the Group A division within the World Rally Championship. And the 323 was a precursor to the Mazda Protege & the Mazda 3.
@@davidkornreich4064 Well, it makes sense the BG would be done because of the rally history, especially since that's what the GTR version was. As far as the BF goes, I'd want Tomica or Kyosho to do that car since they would probably treat it better. And HWs isn't that niche. Not yet unfortunately.
I love that Hot Wheels is doing some more obscure JDM stuff now after focusing on only the heavy hitters for over a decade, there are so many great cars that just don't get attention in the west just bacause they weren't in Fast and Furious or Initial D. Cars like the Nissan Stagea, Mitsubishi Galant VR4, Toyota Caldina GTT or Mazda Eunos Cosmo would be great fits for Hot Wheels and I really hope we see some of them in the coming years
Good shouts hope they do a Eunos Cosmo casting some day 🙏 I wanna see a 4th gen Celica or Mazda MX-6 turbo like they did the 323 in all white wish most for a premium 2pack of the Calsonic R32/R33 or the Castrol Supra/ Celica GT-4
the cars that were in fast and furious where available in the North American market and the ones you mentioned were for the Japanese market only, that's why they don't get attention in the US 😂😂 not because they weren't in some movie ...
@@dead_redux Gotta love all the laughing emojis and confidence when you're so wrong. Galant VR4 and the Eunos Cosmo were both available in the US. Also there were plenty of cars in the FF series that were never sold in the US...
I love that they’ve released the Mazda GTR. It’s an 1800 Dohc turbo 4wd. The GTR is the more race focused version of the GTX. New Zealand was one of the first countries to get used JDM imports so we were very lucky to get these along with a whole host of other JDM specials. I’d love to see an earlier version called the BFMR Mazda Famila which came out in 1985- 1986. These were amazing little pocket rockets with a 1600 Dohc turbo EFI 4wd with a lockable Center diff all back in the 80s. We went from m2 ford escorts to these and early skylines!! Come on Mattel please make one of these
We had the 323 turbos in New Zealand and we're also known ad Mazda Familia's. They were also raced in group A in our local rally scene. Such a cool car.
Nothing ever left on the pegs around me. But, IF I see the van warming, I may buy an extra or two for customs. Love the Manx! Btw, a coworker had a Pantera, sold a GT500H conv to buy it. I got to ride in it once. Truly magical, with that V8 sitting right behind one's shoulder. So, that casting is a retail must buy, IF I see it. (I'm done supporting scalpers, they're ruining the hobby for everyone).
That back drop is just ridiculous ❤ we got those 323's in the UK. Long gone now tho. Rust weavals got them a few years back now. The casting is exactly how I remember them. Id have that 1, transit 2 manx 3, Detomaso 4 and honda last. Feel like the honda could have had mirrors and that lets it down in my opinion. I like how the transit has got rear decals now too. The lights looks so good. 👍
Another fantastic vid. The Manx is awesome. Unfortunately we’ll never see them here in New England, except for the Van. The white first version was the best. This one I believe will be warming the pegs.
I like the van a lot! I like them all, but the van sticks out. It’s really cool with that paint but they’re all super super cool! This is a great batch of cars.
My pet peeve with Hot wheels collectors is they know little about cars. That being said, the 323 GTR is great, wish it was available to the US market when it came out.
I was in one last week, sort of. My older bro has a 92 Ford Capri convertible running that 1.8L engine(from the 323gtr/Familia), bigger turbo, front mount intercooler etc, 350hp to the front wheels limited slip diff. Its a rocket. I think in the U.S they imported some of these called the Mercury Capri (1.6L turbo).
What a FANTASTIC set. The Mazda 323 is easily my favorite. I’m glad the De Tomaso Pantera got a second treat! Maybe it’s just me but that custom Integra looks more accurate than the one previously released in blue probably because of the bigger wheel arches.
I own a 83 mazda glc 5 speed so im all about the 323 glc casting..its a newer gen then the 1 i own but still a great looking casting a vechile with rally pedigree and mazdas 1st fwd car.
A great, if blustery review of new HW Boulevard cars. I worked for a Mazda dealership in the 90's and TRUST me the model here, is nothing like what we got in the states. Sure, was it good on gas of course but it was scared of anything more than a 3% incline. I am glad there was a rally version made, especially in the era of hot hatches such as the Volkswagen GTI, Suzuki Swift GT, and Peugeot 205. Yes, The Manx was a fiberglass dune buggy that you could purchase or make as a kit car - fabulous in warmer regions. not so great in the Northeast. One of my favorite castings of the De Tomaso Panera is the Tomy Pocket Car version
Love the awesome view !! What a great set ! I think the Mazda 323 is my favorite with the Pantera. I will be grabbing the Ford Supervan , I collect tons of vans in 64th scale . The Myers ? not sure .. If I recall correctly ... Wasn't it a Kit sold in the 70s to throw on a VW chassis ? I'm going by what an uncle told me once years ago. 🙂 The Acura is nice but would be better without the stripes IMO.
I am from Europe and own a 1993 Mazda 323 BG sedan and it's great car, so having a hatchback GT-R version from Hot Wheels😁 although I would love to see a red 323 BG sedan in the future.

The Meyers Manx, was a kit car dune buggy.
Picked up Mazda and Acura today 😊
I just got both as well today! Local Walmart had two complete sets on the pegs.
Loved the scenery as backdrop for the cars, just a beautiful landscape vista
Beautiful! Fantastic scenery!! Magnificent!!!
Loved the barbed wire presentation. 👍
