Thank you so much! Painted my dakkajet in like two hours using this video as a guide. It waited for a solid half a year before that. Love the video and love the channel
Oh that’s awesome to hear, thanks for taking the time to let me know, always delighted when people get something painted that’s been lying in their collection for a while! Would love to see it if you post it anywhere!
Hope you enjoy the video and make sure you check out the other videos on my Necromunda Ash Wastes playlist right here! th-cam.com/play/PLUfCchO43Ft-qGegs2dG9_wwhhiMcZALo.html
Did this over a weekend and it was a fun process. Used a ripped sponge on the orange rust step. The Cargo 8 was a fun model too, did it up with no spikes and guns. Very happy to have my own 40k equivalent of a rusty Ford Transit full of agents/baddies/bank robbers/unconscious traffic wardens.
Loving the return of the rust technique! I followed it on your octarius terrain video to great success! We painted all the ork terrain at our club. Can’t wait to try it again for this new truck model! Thanks for the great video
Aw man that’s great to hear that it’s been so helpful for you and your club! Tag me if you post any photos, would love to see them! The new truck is a great use for it!
Cheers Johnny, really appreciate you taking the time to comment, delighted you enjoyed the tutorial! If you ever have any questions about any aspect of the hobby, let me know! Andy
That basecoat is going to make my industrial rusted out terrain so much faster. Thanks for the tip! I think I'm going to do the same thing but tape it down and sponge on some yellow like faded caution stripes.
Really good video and I absolutely love your content. I always feel like I can achieve a good tabletop standard after watching one of your videos, and I can't wait to apply the rust effect to my Death Guard units. Even when if the video is for a game I am not personally interested(Horus Hersey) in, your videos are super watchable and seeing you go through the process of painting up any miniature feels me with a good hobby mojo (Your tank stippling video made me change my mind on painting vehicles from something I dread to something I am quite excited to do). Would personally love you see you paint up all the 40k and Necromunda factions like you did for Horus Hersey as your videos are a great source of confidence to get things painted up and on the tabletop, but appreciate that's a huge ask. Thanks for all the amazing content.
When you showed the rhinox hide stage I almost bit my screen it looked so tasty :P This one had some great jokes in addition to a really good painting tutorial!
Looks cool. I wonder if we could achieve similar effect with paiting red or blue before metallic highlights, the same way as you put initial chocolate-brown. It should give similar effect of worn paint but even easier and faster. I painted ash waste domes similar way and I think it should work also for the ridgehauler.
I don’t think inquisitors would find auto bots kosher. Haha!! Truck looks awesome. I have never thought about keeping my brush strokes the same to add to the effects of the mini. It’s a great tip!! Thanks gents!
interesting technique with the colours. really looks good. I was thinking you could also go with chipping fluid but this is probably easier and really nails the look. Good job
Ye the chipping fluid is for sure another way to go. But I feel is allot more complicated and requires people to buy specialty stuff. This is just some paint.
@@MediocreHobbies Chipping fluid is just some glorified hairspray. The finicky part is the timing : leave it on the model for too long after painting the upper layer and it will bind to the model, making it absolutely non chipping.
So cool! I'm a big fan of Necromunda because it feels like an easier entry to the 40k universe lore wise. When it comes to Vehicles as a whole is there one you recommend for beginners to try? The biggest I've ever put together is an Ironclad dreadnought, so I'm not sure if that really counts by comparison
A simple leman russ from imperial guard is a great tank to learn on. It’s not to expensive and there are so many on the second hand market if you wanna get one cheaper. Howl this helps.
At the end of the mephiston red stage How did you and what colour did you do the metal edges in? It looks silver. Sorry I’m just new to painting so would really like to know. But what an awesome video will be doing mine exactly like this.
@@thekurgan3688 it's not edge highlighting, watch it again. the silver coat is done first, under the red, the red coat doesn't cover all of the panels fully, plus the dry brushing of silver afterwards makes it pop even more.
Heh, when looking at your constructed one, while you show it's angles, loaded and unloaded, I started wondering. Could you load it up with a troopship? As in a troop transport aircraft/shuttle? Think Stormfang, here, for one. Just wondering, here.
If I could afford it I would be tempted to have two trailers then a second Cargo 8 at the rear giving it the option of switching directions in an emergency without the the problem of reversing the beast.
@@MediocreHobbies My plan was to dump it at the back with a bunch of mortars and Yarrick to give rerolling ones, so they might care if it blocks loads more line of site, but you're right, rule of cool!
@@MediocreHobbies oh awesome, I'm very new to Necromunda, painting vehicles, AND airbrushes, so wanted to try it out and was hoping for an excuse to use it. Adore the final product, and absolutely want to try that rusted steel effect.
This is absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing! I’m about to start using your exact method on my own Cargo 8. Did you do anything special for the wheels?
Brilliant stuff, so damn good, the cargo 8 appears a lot in the Gaunt’s Ghosts novels! The model reminds me of Roger Zelaznys book ‘Damnation Alley’. Zelaznys sci fi is defo one of the influences of 40K .Love to see a mechanicus knight! You did ask?
If this kit wasn't so expensive I'd do one for terrain since I've got about 12 of those containers to graffiti up, I love it's look. Heck, I think the 40k crane might fit on the back with some beefed up plastic. You did that rust so fast, looks great.
@@MediocreHobbies I had mounted the 40K crane with the skull on a Chimera with GSC acolytes hanging off, this might also make a good crane platform with some plastic beefing up the back end.
Things do rust even in deserts, just a lot more slowly! The idea of this model is that's an old vehicle that's now used by many gangs to transport stuff between hives and may have been rusty years before it started this job.
@@MediocreHobbies OK, that makes sense. I was thinking of the aircraft boneyards in the US desert where WWII aircraft are stored. The fleets are too big for indoor storage, so they keep them in open air storage in the desert so they don't rust or degrade.
I have to disagree with you on one thing Andy and that’s there is an easier rust out there known as Dirty Down Rust and I’d love to see you using streaking grime as well
It is an investment piece yes, but it's made to be played around as well as a model itself so it's sort of terrain + model in one. If it's not something that you see value in, there's plenty of smaller vehicles and options to play with! Thanks for watching!
Necromunda needs more love on YT.
Yes it does! Will keep adding to my playlist whenever we get new toys!

That was freaking awesome. That technique would work so well for all my sector mechanicus terrain

One more question for you - are the blue and red paints straight from the pot or are they thinned/on a palette?
There used from a wet pallet so I guess there is a little water mixed in.
Is it a similar size to the ork bone breaker

There is no way to go wrong with Imperial Fists :D
Is there a particular reason you use a brush with the rhinox hide, instead of an airbrush?
