Hi Doc, You say, as a first step, to verify the integrity of the 12AX7. You never say how to do that. Unless you have a tube tester, which most people do not, how do you accomplish that? The next step is to try different 12AX7s. Isn't that the same as the first step if you don't have a tube tester? I guess a physical inspection to ensure that there are no cracks or broken pins could be considered part of the first step.
I just found your videos a few days ago and really enjoy them.

Yes - I use a tube tester. I have many videos regarding that. I stated in the video "Hopefully it will test good." But I did not mention the tube testers that I use. I agree - I could have included that there but later I then went on to talk about checking the 12AX7 on a tube tester. So I did mention this in this video. I use the B&K 747B and a Hickok 752B. You also mention that not everyone has that but if you look at the video - I was responding to Kendrick. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it.
