2013 was definitely the last time that TH-cam was under one community umbrella and then 2014 was the transitional year where everyone started to branch off into niches. Between 2014 and 2016 I mainly stuck to the Let’s Play community with Game Grumps, Markiplier, Jackscepticeye, and a lot of the more niche gaming channels.
Also the meta a decade later: Weird and annoying kids content where you’re like, “Why even allow babies and little kids on the internet to begin with?”

I think the ridiculous factor just is much less now a days because we have seen too much of high production silly stuff lately. Their other music has something more to them so they have stood the test of time a little better. I will say though. Ylvis are great live. I saw them the summer of 2013, and they killed it.
Early TH-cam reminds me of the good times crowding around an iPod touch with all your friends. TH-cam being smaller and having the community of peers at school made the experience of sharing videos with people in person something that we'll sadly never feel again. I'd say peak TH-cam was 2012 for me.

I personally feel most/best connected to the yt era of 2008-2011 but I can't pinpoint why. I, too, feel like 2013 was kinda the beginning of the end for "yt innocence" or fandom culture as we knew it generally, it then being really truly changed (and partly horribly so) in 2015/2016.

I feel like majority of people my age (22) had the same exposure to TH-cam as I did. I was probably aware of TH-cam around 2010. Occasionally going on it, but never doing much in depth stuff. It wasn’t until 2012/2013 that I feel like a lot people jumped on board and became consistent viewers on the platform. As I remember always watching Smosh, Vanossgaming, and RayWilliamJohnson, Ryan Higa, etc. pretty crazy to see how different the platform is now and how a lot of creators have either dipped, been arrested/canceled, or moved onto bigger things from the platform. I feel like 2012/2013 was the Big Bang for TH-cam gathering such a massive audience and being taken seriously. As meme culture became very relevant as well, the internet was becoming a breeding ground.

I feel like majority of people my age (22) had the same exposure to TH-cam as I did. I was probably aware of TH-cam around 2010. Occasionally going on it, but never doing much in depth stuff. It wasn’t until 2012/2013 that I feel like a lot people jumped on board and became consistent viewers on the platform. As I remember always watching Smosh, Vanossgaming, and RayWilliamJohnson, Ryan Higa, etc. pretty crazy to see how different the platform is now and how a lot of creators have either dipped, been arrested/canceled, or moved onto bigger things from the platform. I feel like 2012/2013 was the Big Bang for TH-cam gathering such a massive audience and being taken seriously. As meme culture became very relevant as well, the internet was becoming a breeding ground.

also as a brazilian youtube viewer since 2010, seeing youtube starting to care about international creators was crazy, I remember when my favorite youtuber from Brazil showed up in rewind it was SO eventful, it was THE moment. love the video guys
that really was youtubes prime. creative wise and people wise. my god, the 2010s are long gone. last year of school and started working the following year, so i have a vivid memory of that time
