    Not sure if people will care or not, but wanted to include that whole section 01:11 as a public statement about how someone's kinds words can have a profound and lasting effect. Regardless of any positive or negative feelings about the music, I'll always be thankful to Brian Kelley for helping me see my own potential, even if it took a long time for his words to sink in.

      Damn I forgot the nachos... not my handle, and not a big goof. Just found it kinda funny that your reading sounds like a better handle.
      Your video on HARDY encouraged me to see him in a different light, and give his music a shot. Only knowing “One Beer”, I wasn’t sure I cared for him. Now I have “Boots”, “Truck”, and “Ain’t A Bad Day” added to my Liked Playlist for my drive to work. I mean, like you I don’t own a truck, but my brother does; and he’s about as country in life as it gets. You’re doing good work, man. Nice to hear from someone who is also listening to the words beyond the vibes. Take care.

      I can relate. I had some positive interactions with Kristian Bush when he went solo (Trailer Hitch was a great song) and Kix Brooks is actually a very cool guy. And taller than you might think. The thing about Kix that really put me over the edge is that he was very nice to his driver. When he came to town he was dropped off and picked up by a service, and he expressed concern for the guy that was sent to pick him up from the studio.

      I think that it's interesting that Brian Kelly's kinds words helped you so much, because it's very possible that your criticism helped him realize that he wanted to go solo. Might not be as much of a power differential as you think!

    Hey Grady, I just wanna add to the context of the type of person Brian really is. Back when Cruise first came out I was the first person on TH-cam to have a cover of the song and Brian somehow found me on Facebook and messaged me. He told me how much he appreciated me covering their song and asked if I was going to their next show in Wisconsin (where I’m originally from). I told him yea and he gave me backstage passes for that show. After the show me and him talked for awhile and he asked what I was doing with music and I told him that it was just a hobby at the time. He told me that I had some raw talent and passion and didn’t wanna see that go to waste. So a couple years later I moved to Nash and tried the whole artist and singer/songwriter thing. Was able to do and accomplish some cool things here in Nash and I’ll forever be grateful to BK for pushing me to do that. I haven’t seen him in a couple years, but every time I do, he remembers exactly who I am and asks how I’m doing and how the music’s going. He’s a great person and loves to see people go after their dreams when they’re passionate about them. Cool to see that you had a similar experience with him too!

    I loved this EP. I had always hoped he would step out on his own or at least get a few more lead vocals with FGL because he has such a great sounding voice. Sunday Service in the Sand gave me serious Salt Water Gospel vibes from Eli Young Band. I actually loved that song the most. We also got a small snipit of another song at the end of one of the videos that will likely be on the full project, forget which one tho. Overall, I loved this little taste of his song writing and solo music and cannot wait for more from him. I hope he can bring some of this to FGL though and bring tyler back from the rap/pop kick he's on.

    I do get what your saying. Kenny Chesney not only says “no shoes, no shirt, no problems,” but the song starts with “been up to my neck working 6 days a week, wearing holes in soles of the shoes on my feet.” So the beach is Kenny’s catharsis to the working week and feeling so bombarded with life. That’s why his songs about chilling on the beach work.

    Kenny Chesney meets Jimmy Buffet equals Brian Kelly's EP. This solo effort could bloom into many scenarios by speaking to both Parrotheads and country folk alike. I think someone got into Brian's ear about exiting Bro Country and establishing his own voice. To me, it's like drinking keg beer, to cans, to bottles but it's all the same beer. The way it's packaged says more about your changing tastes than the beer itself. Overall, I like the direction Brian Kelly is headed for his own development and wish him all the best.

    • @EroticWhale
      @EroticWhale 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with this sentiment, but he will, as Grady said, need to add a backdrop of some substance. Hanging out at the beach is cool but why are you doing it. Drinking alcohol is cool but be a little introspective and tell us why your drinking. I think the best beach vibe songs work with this context. Like no shoes, no shirt, no problems, or 5 o’clock somewhere.

    The bottom line is this
    Corey crowder killed FGL. His production just does not fit Tyler’s voice whatsoever and for the most part he sucks as a producer. Joey mois loud, bombastic production was where Tyler excelled and to run away from that was suicide for the group.
    Brian Kelley voice fits much nicer with this soft, melodic production of Corey crowder. It offers a pleasant sound, allows instruments to breathe and has just enough charisma to make these songs work
    I do not want another FGL album if not produced by Joey Moi.

    Grady, I get you point about the need for conflict, that relaxation and fun is best when it follows struggle and hard work and struggle.
    Here’s another perspective. We are all coping with the pandemic and all the changes, confusion, fear and isolation it brought, affecting nearly every part of our daily lives (work, worship, shopping, travel, finances, social/ recreational activities, even funerals).
    Most of us have had an unsettled feeling about what the future holds, exacerbated by Covid but starting long before. Trust in our institutions has plummeted, in media, social media, government, the judicial system, economic stability, fair election

    • @leslie6938
      @leslie6938 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oops, wasn’t finished and had more to add to the list but I’ll wrap it up and get to the point.
      We are all facing a multitude of struggles, changes and uncertainty in real life, so maybe we don’t need to hear them in the
      lyrics. Maybe we could all use some escapism, help, remembering good times and most importantly, hope for the future.
      As I heard you talk about how conflict makes you appreciate the rest and relaxation much more, the screen showed the pool party. Lots of people packed close together, faces, smiles, no masks, not a care in the world. I was surprised at what I felt: Nostalgia.
      Maybe Kelly is onto something here with the escapism. It might not be the worst idea to launch a solo career?

    I find that the nicest musicians are usually ones that I would never listen to for enjoyment. The really super commercial, millennial whoop successful ones that are doing the same stuff over and over. I had to retrain parts of my brain to come to grips with that understanding and learn from them. Some of the worst experiences I've had are the under the radar ones that I listen to all the time who think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.

    This EP feels a lot more like the kind of music Jesse Rice makes (incredible music, there are even a couple FGL collabs in there) and I'm here for it!

    My family friend was actually in the party on the beach music video! (They know BK) Apparently he is a great guy too! I really like his new stuff, it feels a lot more traditional country, which I like, and it’s all suuuuper catchy/vibey!

    Party on the beach not only sounds like midland’s drinking problem, but the verse melody is literally identical. That said, I’m a fan of the EP and enjoy the vibe.

    I'm right there with you on the sad song train. They have a paradoxical effect-- like, life is sometimes terrible and painful, but it's comforting to know that someone else has felt the same and managed to turn it into something beautiful.
    There's obviously a time and place for peppy celebratory stuff and I dig that as well, but having a total lack of conflict in one's catalog is offputting to me.

    Being that he was pretty much the backup singer for FGL, I wanted him to say more on this album than “I like the beach” lol. These songs were underwhelming but I still look forward to more from him

    Sorry I'm late but have you listened to Thomas Rhett's latest song country again off of his new album? It's his most traditional song yet, there's a lot of fiddle in it.

    I am liking the sound of his voice on its own. The songs sound great. I see storms of hate thrown at him and or FGL as well. It's monkey see monkey do if you ask me. What FGL accomplished is so incredibly hard to do. If it wasn't, why do so many fail? I say good on him to get out and do his own thing. Haters want everyone to quit everything lol. Great work BK and nice honest review Grady!

    Anyone else on their first listen to Made By The Water hear "little molly hits good" instead of "little Marley hits good"???? I was like wtf is that doing in a BK country song lol. Kinda reminds me of how everyone thought Jake Owen was saying "cocaine" instead of "cold can" on his song Beachin. It was hard to get past that lol

    This is a step in the right direction. I'm hoping this is the end of FGL - I'm not aware of a single song of theirs that I would buy or sell to play in a playlist or want to hear on the radio.
    But, the Party on the Beach song has some great aspects to it!
