A useful tip a mom friend gave me, "Talk to yourself the way you'd talk to your daughter." Be kind and loving to yourself. Hug yourself like you hug her. Love yourself like you love her. This helped me so much. It wasn't an excuse but it did change my mindset. I wouldn't expect perfect from her, why do I expect it in myself when I'm taking care of her? Stay above water sweetie, the flood will become less, you'll be swimming along before you know it.

My son was diagnosed last year when he was 11 years old with a malignant brain tumor which is when I discovered your videos. So I know how hard this year has been. You are the only ASMR person I watch/listen to. I've always struggled with anxiety and depression but my son's diagnosis really sent me into a tailspin but then I found a strength I never knew I had because of the courage and strength that he fought his cancer with. We were so close to losing him it's unbelievable to even fathom what we can truly make it through. I am so happy to report that he is now officially in remission! Don't worry Maria! Be strong in faith and you can get through ANYTHING! Make sure to take care of your body and mind! God bless you and your family! Thank you for making these videos to help people make it through their days. You've helped me so much and continue to do so!

There is an old saying, “Anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly.”
Basically, it is what your are talking about. How you have to post a video each week, even when you are not satisfied with it. It is important not only as a result, but as a process.
Another way to think of it is it is better to commit 50% effort than 0%, something is better than nothing, etc. An effective moto.

For anyone out there who might benefit -- When my daughter was about 6-8 months old I started getting a lot of anxiety, depression and mood swings. I started treatment for PPD and then eventually everyone figured out I had hypothyroidism. For any new moms, pregnancy can trigger this postpartum thyroiditis. Sometimes it resolves, sometimes it doesn't. If you're feeling poorly, don't stay silent thinking that's just part of being a new parent and you have to live with it. Talk to your doctor! While it could be sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and stress, it could also be something else. Either way, you deserve care and attention. ❤️

This is the most real, down to earth, identifiable conversation any woman can ever have. All the outside influences in the world are stacked against us when it comes to self-worth and feelings of success. Then WE are stacked against our own selves with the anxiety and self-doubt. Girl, I feel this in the fiber of my being. You are NOT alone.

I’m old enough to be your mom but young enough to remember when my 15 yr old daughter was a baby. She never slept for more than 4 hrs until she was a year - so neither did I. I also avoided screens and tried to be fully present as a mom. It is draining - truly work. It really is OK to leave those emails unanswered! I admire your grit and respect your desire for personal space - both good reasons to want to keep up with your ASMR work. Self care is so important and so easy to leave out of the equation. 34 years ago my postpartum depression went by the cutesy and dismissive nickname of ‘baby blues’. I too felt inadequate, tired, overwhelmed, overweight and just plain sad. But, how could I feel so sad when I had just given life to such a beautiful boy? My ex-husband was a police officer with crazy hours and a very busy dating life, (he didn’t realize that he should have stopped dating after we were married), so my son and I were always alone. He cried for the first three months of his life because of his colic. I cried because I couldn’t do anything right. I began to self medicate. Slowly at first. ‘Just to calm myself’, until I just became drunk.
My point is, there’s nothing wrong with the way you feel. You’re not doing everything, or even, ANYTHING wrong. You are just a new mother beginning a new job. And motherhood is a job. One you will never retire from. Your efforts will constantly be taken for granted. You’ll, more often than not, be denied the gratitude and recognition you deserve, or crave.
I truly hope that you are able to figure out the best course to help you through this time in your life. You should talk to your doctor. If that doesn’t help, talk to a different doctor. You’re a beautiful soul and you’ve been blessed. Now give yourself some slack for being human.

@@advantage82 I’m sorry to hear that any new mom is depressed when what we’ve done are simply miracles. And this horrible year is just that, horrible. But, you have to help yourself and allow yourself to see the ‘happy’. Sometimes we really are alone, but that just makes us more resilient and stronger. Congratulations on your baby. Good luck, God bless. It will get better. We need to believe that and repeat it to ourselves, sometimes like crazy people.

You're such a sweetheart, I really like when you are just being yourself. I hope the anxiety passes quickly.
From my own experience it is much easier to panic and have anxiety when you are tired and don't sleep well. It's like the body is too tired to fight it. Hope it gets better once Mila gets older and sleep better herself.

You are so raw and real and I LOVE IT!!! Adulting is hard. Parenting is hard. There are a lot of people who paint their lives as perfect and that’s not how real life is. I appreciate your real-ness and honesty. My kids are bigger and I have to say that there will be different challenges along the way as your daughter gets bigger. You learn from each other. I loved it when you said when it all becomes too much, just walk away. Take a few minutes for yourself and just breathe. My favorite videos of yours are when you are just chit chatting. It is like catching up with an old friend. And it’s never selfish. Don’t beat yourself up for not always being on top of everything. It’s not always possible. Life happens. Take care Maria! ❤️

Maria, it was just meant to be that I came back to you today after a while. I’m a new mom too, my daughter turned one last month. And this whole year was just like you described it for me too. Exhausting has a completely new meaning to me now! So glad that you talk about all this so openly. This helps me a lot. Knowing that I am not the only one struggling while everyone around me has these unicorn babies. Or at least this is what they say. Becoming a mom is really a challenge nobody can prepare for, you just have to go with it and you will learn everyday. It’s always hard to accept that things don’t go as expected. Especially when not only you have high expectations for yourself but also society. Since I am a mom I feel that I am constantly justifying my decisions to everybody. Because everybody seems to know it better. And I am trying hard not to give too much attention to this but stay focused what I think works for me and my child. I don’t remember too much details from this last year. Especially because I had to cope with my mom passing away only weeks after giving birth to my baby. But I am feeling that things are slowly getting better. I send you a lot of love from Germany! 💜 Keep going and stay strong and healthy!

    • @MM-wj2ei
      @MM-wj2ei 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, for me it's the same. I really appreciate that you're talking about what it means to be a new mom so honestly. My daughter is 15 months old and although I knew it would be getting hard to have a baby, I wasn't expecting how challenging and exhausting that whole new life would be. We have the same sleeping issues and sometimes I've been wondering what the hell I am doing wrong when all the others seem to do it right. I know that's wrong to think about it like this, but sometimes it's just hard moving on and staying convinced that this is OUR way which is as right as all the others. In general I think people should talk about these topics more openly in society, not only always mentioning the wonderful parts of having a child but also about the hardships, the frustrations, sleep deprivations, self-doubts, challenges for you and your relationships. What strikes me most is how deeply connected I am with my daughter, how much I love her despite all these hardships that you're going through. That's just crazy. Thank you for another great video and keep it calm concerning your self-expectations. I'Ve been following you here for six years and I've never expected anything extraordinary from you. I'm just pleased and happy when you upload a new video, that's it! You will always be my favourite ASMRtist even if you won't upload for a year or so :-) I send you my best wishes from Germany!

As a fellow Cancer and mom, I feel this deep in my heart. Always being on high alert about literally everything. It naturally comes with the territory of being a perfectionist which is your Cancer nature. It's so sweet to watch you go through this journey though. I say that because I've been there, done that, sometimes still doing it. I have 3 kids, ages 5,4, and 2. It's been a crazy 5 years 😂 but it does get easier, but there are always a new set of challenges the older they get. But you cross those bridges when you there or else you will go mad. When you get to crossing those bridges, all you can do is your best. I've been around since the beginning of your journey with asmr and I appreciated you then, and I appreciate you just as much, if not more, now. You are doing so so so great hon. Keep doing what you're doing because there is nothing wrong with it, let some of the pressure go 💜💕

This is what I love about Maria's ASMR. So refreshing to hear and see people who speak honestly from their heart about the daily problems we all experience, than just seeing a beautiful face on Instagram or whatever that changes from view to view all around the world, and just make you feel so miserable. Social media can be devastating, but can also be comforting. Knowing that everyone has problems, and not only do I eat myself with endless self-criticism. Thank you so much Maria , love your ASMR, and a big fan for many years 🌸

I've worked very well with gentle whispers to get to sleep... Have done all my life. My mum used to whisper a prayer beside me each night when I was very little and I would just drift off to sleep and be out like a light before she finished.
The only thing with these videos, is that any other sounds like crinkling paper or tapping or deep sighs, will instantly disturb me and bring me back!. I then have to start all over again.
But on the whole, the ASMR (never knew for the last 44 years that it had a name!) works well for me...
Thank you. God bless you ❤️

I’m so impressed to hear how self aware you are about the transformation you’re experiencing-motherhood changes everything. I agree sleep deprivation can heighten anxiety and elevate appetite. (For me, sugar cravings pop up most often when I’m mentally drained or haven’t had enough restful sleep). If I could go back & tell my “new mom self” one thing, it would have been - to relax more. I wish I knew then how much being present with my babies would have improved my self esteem & confidence as a mom. It’s obvious in your TH-cam & Instagram posts that your baby is very vibrant and happy...you’re doing an amazing job!

Just have to remember you are never alone when it comes to anxiety. You definitely have helped me at times when I need to settle down and relax. You are a soothing person. We all love you and support whatever you have to do to help you feel better.

Hearing your honest self-criticizing ebb and flow into patience with yourself and refocusing on all you are doing and accomplishing is really helpful! Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us

I love these simple videos. You keep saying they lack quality but the quality is you girl! We just love your voice and having an excuse to relax is amazing. Thanks for all you do for this community.
