And since then, my brother has pulled my nephew out of school and is planning to “home school” him… now he won’t have anyone to protect him. I feel so at a loss. It’s horrible.
Yes! I had to report one incident while getting my teaching degree very early on and another when I was doing my student teaching. So, I got the reality of that experience earlier than I expected to. It is so heartbreaking.

Chad is very strong mentally. He's obviously using humor to get over pain (which I think he's done throughout his whole life), and that is awesome, I mean if you're going to deal with pain, humor is a lot better than anger or depression. But ignoring it by joking isn't good either, so idk. It's just sad because I know it's a method some people use to hide their pain
joking about trauma isnt necessarily ignoring it, it's a way for the person to work through it on their own terms, sometimes with lightheartedness. chad is actively in therapy too - even thouigh *none* of this is his fault, he's putting in work to heal from the familial trauma! it understandably took some time to even trust his therapist but now he does. he's doing what he needs to do
he's been abused in different ways for many years, that's not even showing what ruby had actually done do to him. he needs therapy, they all do. humor isn't necessarily taking a blind eye to his pain though it could just help him through the pain. but I hope he gets therapy

Ruby is a controlling and sadistic mother. It really came to a head when Shari left for college and Ruby cried in the car on video about how upset she was about she wouldn’t be able to control Shari’s life anymore. After that it seemed like Ruby went to the extreme with her other kids because she couldn’t control Shari. She began to hyper-fixate on shielding the kids “from the outside world” which she says in the breakdown video about the song Low. She was obsessed with controlling every aspect of the lives of her children to an abusive point. It’s sick. She’s sick. But so is Kevin and he should not have custody of the youngest two.
So it is better for the two kids to restart their lives with unknown strangers?. Can u guarantee those strangers will be good people. I don't even trust u can foster those kids. You are another version of ruby and Jodi . First thing u would do is remove the father out of the picture. They did that . Now u r thinking to do that. U r sick . Your country is a failed state. No other country is this screwed up. And I think since people are giving more and more power to therapists , u can see the exploits more and more. There will be more in the future.

Trauma can hit people really hard later in life. I hope he continues counseling from a REAL professional, and seeks healing in whatever ways he can. You don’t just get over this much abuse so quickly.
Tbf he didn't go through what got his mom arrested. Only his two youngest siblings went through that. But yes, he did experience Jodi's counseling and his mom's abuse before ever meeting Jodi.

Her being her and the church teaching him that he's supposed to be the man, so he can't go admit he's honestly scared of her. I hope he's grown to be a better dad now that he's seen all the evidence and has been away from the brainwashing. I know this is supposed to be happy that Chad is moving on, but all I feel is sad. I don’t think it has fully impacted him yet what his mother has done. I feel like he’s laughing now, but there’s going to come a day in the near distant future when that all changes. My only hope is that these kids don’t rush their healing process. That they grieve for their lost childhood and their broken family so that they can heal from it. Trauma always has a funny way of sneaking up on you, no matter how hard you try to repress it.
I am living for Chad being so open and light spirited about all of this. Kid seems to have a fun and humble personality, which was suppressed until now.

I think that Pam absolutely needs to be investigated more, also she had two of Ruby’s daughters “cleaning” and her face looked like oh no we are caught! I never understood why she wasn’t interrogated by the police. If Pam was indeed apart of connections and was friends with Jodi and Ruby she absolutely knew what was going on since she saw the kids on a regular basis. Just my humble opinion. I want everyone involved in abusing these poor children put away in prison where they belong.

Ruby did so much messed up stuff to him on 8 passengers. I can only imagine the depths of horror she inflicted on the rest of those kids off camera, even outside of the reports. When Chad spoke about his mom at 3:00 I couldn’t help but hear a kid wanting his mom back. The mom she once was. I hope Chad and his siblings heal from this!!
I also have a psychotic mother that I no longer speak too so seeing him healing and laughing about some of the things he’s been through makes me happy for him. It’s taken me years to heal and it’s always a work in progress but joking about the things we’ve been through is a good way to cope and see the humor and not all of the bad. He seems like he’s going in the right direction and I hope that continues for him!

Sadly I don’t believe ruby is fully remorseful for her actions, ruby ran 8 passengers she knows how to play the camera. Ruby also has admitted to her siblings (sister and brother) and Kevin that she knows what she needs to do to get out showing and acting remorseful and contrite (during a jailhouse call) The biggest question, can Ruby truly be rehabilitated? If I was Chad or Shari married with kiddos I certainly wouldn’t be leaving my kids unsupervised with grandma Ruby. Ruby walked a fine line between discipline and abuse pre Jodi as for Chad he has a lot of healing to do and I believe he will have different opinions about Ruby during his healing process. Chad’s opinion of Jodi I believe he will always want her behind bars.
They are Mormons and after finding out they’re Mormons it all made so much sense! I just left the religion, and what I went through and what I’ve experienced I’m not surprised this happened sadly. Missionaries have very strict rules that’s almost inhuman they aren’t treated right at all. Missionaries that got me baptized had their beds taken away and have to sleep on the ground because they were relaxing and missionaries aren’t aloud to relax. Ruby did not do those punishments out of her own spiteful mindset… she definitely learned this from the LDS religion..
That's not true at all... My husband was a missionary and never got his bed taken away for relaxing. The district elder is the one that makes the rules even if they are not the churches rules. LDS people do not support this and the majority don't act like this.

As much as I would like to hear more of Shari’s point of view, I also understand her being more private and reserved, I can’t even imagine being her and spending MY teenage years trying to raise and save my siblings from someone who was meant to take care of them and love them. Ruby has failed them all since the beginning by exploiting the kids’ privacy, along with completely ignoring all the boundaries those kids set (e.g. them saying they have no friends, they don’t want to be filmed, the list goes on and on) and allowing a stranger to destroy her family, she deserves to rot in prison. And Jodi had this long time coming, like COME ON, we’ve seen those reviews and we’ve heard her victims’ experiences with her.
It makes me really happy to see him joking laughing & being able to enjoy life again. It's slightly confusing Kevin was the one that went to the school board meeting & read the lyrics of that song in front of hundreds of ppl. There's a lot of changing Kevin wld have needed to do in a very short period & of time. I still have a hard time thinking that the younger children cld be placed back in his care just bc he was so quick to walk away f them. While knowing his wife was crazy, that things got even crazier when Jodi came & was fine having no contact w the kids. He had to know their situation only got worse bc he was aware how bad it was b4 he moved out. He was aware of how insane it was. He cldve spent over a year fighting for some type of visitation. Or at the very least a simple welfare check.

It truly was sickening that these kids went through sm and all of it was caught on camera with no consequences happening to the parents until now. I wish the best for all of them.
I know this is supposed to be happy that Chad is moving on, but all I feel is sad. I don’t think it has fully impacted him yet what his mother has done. I feel like he’s laughing now, but there’s going to come a day in the near distant future when that all changes.
My only hope is that these kids don’t rush their healing process. That they grieve for their lost childhood and their broken family so that they can heal from it. Trauma always has a funny way of sneaking up on you, no matter how hard you try to repress it.
Making jokes is a very normal and healthy way of dealing with trauma. Doesn't mean they aren't still hurting...

I am living for Chad being so open and light spirited about all of this. Kid seems to have a fun and humble personality, which was suppressed until now.
I feel so bad for them, because no matter what, it's still their mother at the end of the day and it's hard to break that bond....I know Chad said Ruby was being genuine, but it's so hard to believe that she feels any actual remorse for her actions other than that she got caught. I hope the kids find their peace

I think that Pam absolutely needs to be investigated more, also she had two of Ruby’s daughters “cleaning” and her face looked like oh no we are caught! I never understood why she wasn’t interrogated by the police. If Pam was indeed apart of connections and was friends with Jodi and Ruby she absolutely knew what was going on since she saw the kids on a regular basis. Just my humble opinion. I want everyone involved in abusing these poor children put away in prison where they belong.

This is why my country has strict reporting guidelines and curriculum approval if you homeschool your kids. So you don’t brainwash them, restrict them from actual education or alienate them from the world. Those kids would have been checked up on. America needs to change its home schooling policies
Define “brainwashing”. I don’t know if I would like a government telling me unless I except they’re given dogma, I will be punished. Given the history of most governments in the world, you probably shouldn’t be putting so much trust into them.

Ruby did so much messed up stuff to him on 8 passengers. I can only imagine the depths of horror she inflicted on the rest of those kids off camera, even outside of the reports. Wish nothing but the best and healing for these children. I hope whatever helps him heal is what he pursues and if speaking out on it helps I think it's great.

When Chad spoke about his mom at 3:00 I couldn’t help but hear a kid wanting his mom back. The mom she once was. I hope Chad and his siblings heal from this!!
I suspected that as well. Jodi and Ruby were even thinking of getting a ranch together and using the younger kids as free child labor.
I also have a psychotic mother that I no longer speak too so seeing him healing and laughing about some of the things he’s been through makes me happy for him. It’s taken me years to heal and it’s always a work in progress but joking about the things we’ve been through is a good way to cope and see the humor and not all of the bad. He seems like he’s going in the right direction and I hope that continues for him!
I am relieved to hear that Chad seems to be doing well and recovering from the mistreatment he endured by his so called“mother” and Jodi- I hope the other kids will be able to do the same.

Sadly I don’t believe ruby is fully remorseful for her actions, ruby ran 8 passengers she knows how to play the camera. Ruby also has admitted to her siblings (sister and brother) and Kevin that she knows what she needs to do to get out showing and acting remorseful and contrite (during a jailhouse call)
The biggest question, can Ruby truly be rehabilitated? If I was Chad or Shari married with kiddos I certainly wouldn’t be leaving my kids unsupervised with grandma Ruby.
Ruby walked a fine line between discipline and abuse pre Jodi as for Chad he has a lot of healing to do and I believe he will have different opinions about Ruby during his healing process.

They are Mormons and after finding out they’re Mormons it all made so much sense! I just left the religion, and what I went through and what I’ve experienced I’m not surprised this happened sadly.
Missionaries have very strict rules that’s almost inhuman they aren’t treated right at all. Missionaries that got me baptized had their beds taken away and have to sleep on the ground because they were relaxing and missionaries aren’t aloud to relax.
Ruby did not do those punishments out of her own spiteful mindset… she definitely learned this from the LDS religion..
That's not true at all... My husband was a missionary and never got his bed taken away for relaxing. The district elder is the one that makes the rules even if they are not the churches rules. LDS people do not support this and the majority don't act like this.

As much as I would like to hear more of Shari’s point of view, I also understand her being more private and reserved, I can’t even imagine being her and spending MY teenage years trying to raise and save my siblings from someone who was meant to take care of them and love them. Ruby has failed them all since the beginning by exploiting the kids’ privacy, along with completely ignoring all the boundaries those kids set (e.g. them saying they have no friends, they don’t want to be filmed, the list goes on and on) and allowing a stranger to destroy her family, she deserves to rot in prison. And Jodi had this long time coming, like COME ON, we’ve seen those reviews and we’ve heard her victims’ experiences with her.

It makes me really happy to see him joking laughing & being able to enjoy life again. It's slightly confusing Kevin was the one that went to the school board meeting & read the lyrics of that song in front of hundreds of ppl. There's a lot of changing Kevin wld have needed to do in a very short period & of time. I still have a hard time thinking that the younger children cld be placed back in his care just bc he was so quick to walk away f them. While knowing his wife was crazy, that things got even crazier when Jodi came & was fine having no contact w the kids. He had to know their situation only got worse bc he was aware how bad it was b4 he moved out. He was aware of how insane it was. He cldve spent over a year fighting for some type of visitation. Or at the very least a simple welfare check.
I actually believe the way he's acting is a defense mechanism, or trauma response. Even if he doesn't know it. People use humor to cover the trauma, it's easier to deal with.
I hope he's not just joking to take the light of him. They all need some counseling 😢
