hoof training for foals

  • its time to show some training on the foals... Cuddling they know how to do very well... But there is more to raising a solid equine partner then just loving on them all day long
Haltering, leading, standing in a halter, handling the legs, picking up hooves, all very important tasks asked of a young horse. No time like NOW to be doing this with young horses.
Here you will see Sage being handled and prepared to have her hooves trimmed, her legs handled and to stand still
being a responsible and respectful young equine partner.

I think that is a super way to train them. Handling feet early, working with ropes like that teaching them something around their leg will not scare them. You guys are doing a wonderful job. You are right. You are setting them up for the rest of their lives.

I love your calm voices that you use around the horses. I truly believe that some humans are gifted with the ability to communicate with animals, and you two both seem to have horses in your blood. I love watching your horsemanship-it’s beautiful and very spiritual.

Lovely to see you starting hoof training so early, Sage was very relaxed while you were working her legs and feet. Healthy hooves are vital to equine health and these precious foals are off to a great start.💕

Loved this! When she predicted Jordan picking up her back foot and she repositioned her front leg to get ready for it I was like you go girl! So willing, it's a pleasure to watch them loving learning. 🥰

That was beautiful. I was thinking the same thing, that you are training them for the rest of their lives and that is so important not only for them but the people around them!

Wow!!!! The foals look fantastic!!! They are getting so big and have really filled out. It looks like Sage really responded well to everything you were doing. A testament to your training skills and that they love and trust you. These 3 will make excellent working horses and companions.

My brother and I personally slowly broke and trained fillies through the years. We did the exact same rope trick. And lots of cuddles. Miss those days. These babies have really grown. Ranger is so tall. Is he getting lighter down his back? Thanks so much for sharing. Keep posting. I'm here.

This is great ! Also brush them a bit and lean over them to brush the other side where you are not standing (without putting weight of course). They will become comfortable with the idea of a rider above in a very natural way like this. I did this with a filly I cared for when I was only 14 (and same as you for halter, feet etc) and everything was just "normal" for her, so when she was 4 and we started to ride her a bit there was no fear, no resistance, just magic !

It’s so important to sack out horses, because in nature, they’re a jumpy herd animal that has survived for thousands of years due to their extremely fast impulse to run away from danger. Horses are so alert and skittish, but it’s just how they’re designed. The more kindness and calmness that’s introduced to them when training, the better they are with riders, and they will have better lives if they’re trained well.
