Definitely some interesting sentences. I appreciated the bit: "The eggs accused me with their fierce yellow glare." I've never read eggs personified in quite that way, but it seemed to work. It sounds like an interesting book, and an fascinating author!
Seeking Stories It goes to some dark places, but it’s a trip!
Despite having grown up in the Mountain West, I didn't know it had its own noir genre. I've added this to my exploration trb. I like it when books mix up sad and funny. Have you read any of Peter Heller's novels? He's a Denver writer who has recently come into his own with the publication of several Mountain West novels that I've enjoyed.
an enthusiastic reader Heller is new to me, so I’ll add his name to my list, thank you!
I don’t know if there is “Mountain West noir”, I just find a very different sensibility between fiction written from/in that setting compared to the massive amount of fiction set in California, the South, or NY. It’s not necessarily “western” as in the genre, but it has a unique feel.
Do you find that?

@@ramblingraconteur1616 Yes, for sure I know that sensibility you're talking about. When I think of the typical Western, I am more familiar with the books my grandfather loved like Louis L'Amour and not so much any kind of crime/mystery/detective novel, so it's fun to find new (to me) authors that are doing something different.
Try and get your volume up!
Thanks, this was an early video as I was still figuring quite a bit out.
Are you a fan of Crumley?
Cheers, Jack
