We agree 100%. We also love to just go to local grocery stores. Seeing people in there and what they buy helps you understand the local culture as well
The church was amazing , those stained glass windows were beautiful ! So glad they have online mass , my 90 year old mom appreciates them . The egg with chicken was hilarious to watch . Love your food videos, great way to see the culture !
My husband and I lived in the Cavite Province just south of Manila for 8 months in 2022. Watching your food tour was fun but there are so many other great Filipino foods that aren’t ears or intestines. Haha. I love lumpiang and turons. Our neighborhood grocery store made fresh turons that I could never pass up. With the bananas they also included jack fruit or ube(purple sweet potato). Wow. Made me really hungry watching you eat. Cheese on everything also surprised us and I’d never heard of cheese ice cream (or ube ice cream) until I was there. Thanks for sharing and bringing back great memories.
Glad they could bring back some great memories. It was a ton of fun and as you said there's so much other food than just the "challenging" Street Food. 😋
I'm a Filipino living in Reno, NV and our big sports store here sells ube ice cream in their deli snack bar. It's getting in the mainstream slowly but surely I see it more often now.
Love food tours. They are more than just eating. I was a traveling nurse for 14 years a enjoyed the Philipino nurses I worked with in San Francisco. They loved sharing their food including Malo Malo with sherbet, beans and other things.
What an exciting career! I was in Mexico in a little restaurant in the middle of nowhere . A group of Doctors without borders came in and it was so much fun . The food was delicious and they were such wonderful people . I admire you !!!
You are correct. One of the best ways to get to know a culture is through their food that's why we do a lot of food tours. By the way Nancy was also a nurse and worked with quite a few Filipino nurses as well. It's a small world
I really enjoy watching your adventures on the world cruise. If I did that street food tour, I'd still be hungry after that, because I wouldn't be brave enough to try most of those foods.
Wonderful job again guys! - My wife and I were holding our ears (not sure why) when you were eating that egg, but I bet it wasn't bad, just gotta get past our mental issues like you said - Looking forward to the next one!!!
Did you see any gang activity? As your friend was pointing at one and another right before that were throwing up gang signs. I love your videos. I was just curious if you noticed that.
Looked like an amazing tour! You both are so brave, I might have tried only 3 of the 25 items you tasted. Just watching you, I was making faces😂 thank you for another great adventure. 😁
My daughter & I went to the Philippines for a mission trip a few years back. We loved Ube flavored things. I enjoyed the cheese ice cream also. I could bring myself to try the balut though. You both are brave 😊
This video was so interesting!!! I’ve eaten a few of the foods you’ll tried growing up, the tripe, boiled to tenderize, egg dipped, then flour, and deep fried, it was so delicious! Chittering I grew up on, no longer eat either; but with chittering we clean them so well, you would never taste any grit. Not sure, I’ll say maybe it was a season they used. I’ve enjoyed liver, chicken, pork and beef, as well as giblets, stewed and deep fried! That last tasting, the egg, I’ve heard about, and wondering if you’ll could see the baby chicks inside? Hanks for sharing, this was very, very interesting and I would have tried several dishes too! 😇😋😋
Sounds like you're also an adventurous eater. And to answer your question yes you could see the chicken embryo. We tried not to show it directly on the video as it was interesting to say the least. 😁
Hi Nancy and Mike I really enjoyed this video of your Manila food tour. As soon as you said amazing race food challenge I knew which food you were going to try, BALUT. I think in the amazing race they tried duck embryos. I suppose BALUT could be any poultry embryo. Your whole I really thought I was watching Andrew Zimmerman bizarre foods. I don’t think I could eat most of the foods that you were trying. I’ve had before and I didn’t like it at all. Looking forward to your next Filipino adventure!
Thanks so much for watching and following along with us. Tried the balut as you saw, and it wasn’t bad, it was really just the thought of it. This is Nancy speaking and I’m sure I will never have it again.
Hi, Nancy and Mike! I've never seen chicken eggs used for Balut, only duck eggs. Are chicken eggs also used for Balut? Thank you, love your videos. I'm learning so much!
Kudos to you both for trying so many foods, much different than Michigan cuisine! Curious how you felt later on or the next day after all the street food.
Add them to a list yeah special dietary needs in other countries can be extremely difficult. Really glad you're enjoying our videos and coming along with us
My mom told me at a young age not to be afraid to try anything (within reason). At age 70 I still find new foods. I would love to try food tours just have not been able to find one on any of my cruises. Continue to have fun and make us jealous.
Aw, we don’t want you to be jealous, but we do appreciate you following along with us. Keep trying to search at those food tours because they’re awesome.
Hello Mike and Nancy, i am so proud of you for trying the food on all your travel visits...i actually grew up on eating the chicken liveres and chicken stomach and chiken intestines and pig intestines..actually the pig i testi es are actually the casings on a lot of European sausages...the only thing i would've had a hard time was the fermented egg...i don't know how to spell it...the onecway to eat something challenging to me is to cover my nose and then eat it...but again good for you having to courage 😀 😄 😉 😊 👍🏻 ❤ it looks like you are having a great time❤❤❤
Not at all. We've been very fortunate and have had any food issues at all and have tried pretty much everything on the world Cruise so far. Just wish us luck as we move forward. 😋😋😋
I’m not a foodie (I vomit easy with smells and look of food lol). So I may have to fast forward some of the food eating sorry. You are very brave and adventurous with your eating.
I love your videos and have been following them since day one. I own a video production company and have a suggestion for you: when you pan the camera around, there is always a shudder issue that causes stuttering of the pictue....hard to watch as a viewer. To eliminate that, "pan" slower. Then, in post-production, you can always make a cut in the clip and advance it to the next area of interest in the "pan" using a dissolve to smooth the transition. Just a suggestion. Keep up the good reviews....I'm jealous.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that, and know that is one thing that I've been working on as our videos are progressing. I'm always balancing between shooting a video and trying not to be disruptive to anybody else around us, and sometimes that makes me move the camera a little fast. I'm working on slowing that down, but I'm also working on when I see that doing a post-production slow motion and video stabilization processing to try to fix that issue. But I do appreciate the comment and the help. We can always learn. 😄
@@livingphase2 Yep, I totally understand that one can get a little self-conscious when taping in public. I also understand not wanting to be intrusive. Adjusting the shutter speed to twice the frame rate will help. However, your videos are enjoyable, and I am sure that nobody but me even notices the stutter. After all, I am a video nerd. Keep up the good work and continue to enjoy the journey.
One of our very good friends only eats chicken and vegetables and she was on the tour with us. Let's just say it was quite difficult for her. But she powered through. 🤣🤣🤣
OMG, I couldn't stomach this video, I'm not a foody so had to look away....many times.😂 The worst I've been offered is pigs testicles in Singapore....not for me. You two are brave and very adventurous!!! You each get a medal from me! 🥇🥇
Sorry to bring this up however I noticed a mark on the top of your head! Not to be nosy just concerned because I have had basil cell carcinoma on the top of my head! Hopefully it’s nothing to worry about! I absolutely love your videos! I lost my husband on June 5, 2021 and we had gone on 6 Disney cruises and I miss them so much! Trying to get up the nerve to do a solo cruise perhaps through Triple A some day! ☺️
That's really lovely of you to ask. It happened to be that I bumped my head in lombok Indonesia on a low hanging corrugated tin roof while I was walking to talk to one of the boat drivers. It's all healed up and better. However I'm fair-skinned and always very careful with watching for any type of skin cancer and have regular checkups with the dermatologist and also use sunscreen. So yes I do understand and really really appreciate your concern. You're so sweet thank you. 🥰
We'd also like to offer you our condolences for the loss of your husband. We have several friends on this world Cruise who are solo Travelers and a couple who lost spouses just before the world Cruise. I think getting back out into the world with other people is a difficult but wonderful way to move on with our lives. I think that that's what our spouses would always want for us to not stop living our lives. You are in our prayers, and we wish you all the best
Hello again, curious that you didn’t try LCHON. It is the best rose pork you’ll ever try in your life. I had it at my friends engagement party over 30 years ago. Her and her husband are Filipinos and I had LUMPINLECHON. Who knew Filipino food was so incredible and delicious!
As world travelers, I found the best way to stop “hounders”…I turn to that person and put my finger to my lips and say Shhhhhhh- has worked every time- My husband is amazed when I use that technique!
Not too much. If it's small amounts we're keeping it for when we might come back to a place any larger amounts we take the hit on the currency exchange and just turn it in on the ship. They'll do an exchange back to dollars here. Just that the exchange rate is not that good
@@livingphase2actually you can also exchange it in your US bank when you get back home. I do it all the time but I guess you need the $ cash when in a world tour.
Looks like a fun place to visit! The food tour looks super great too, but be honest, after all that fried food, weren't your stomachs revolting? If not, good for you because mine would be! QUESTION: Regarding the ATM withdrawls......I have a local bank debit card. One that's only available in my area of the states. That's what we use for our day to day purchases. Would we be able to get cash from a machine overseas with that kind of card?
That's a great question about the ATM card. You're going to want to talk to your bank you need to be part of an international Network like plus and Visa, you're also going to want to make sure there's no foreign transaction fees or what kind of fees they have for outside of network withdrawals. What we have is a card from our financial institution that refunds all ATM fees and charges no transaction fees so it works great for this type of trip. Best thing to do is talk to your bank. Thanks a lot for watching and falling along hope that was helpful. 😀
@@livingphase2 It was quite helpful! I've never come across this topic before and well, I haven't traveled out of the U.S. much either so it hasn't been an issue. But now I might, since being recently retired and I want to be prepared. Thanks so much! I watch every episode.
In the six months of the cruise both needs to have probably put on about 5 lb or so. We've been going to the gym even more and walking more here recently to get back down to our starting weight
My father talked about baloot (sp?) From his time in the Philippines during WW II. He never tried it. I'm not sure I could either. I would probably taste everything else but may not eat it all.
Nancy, I believe the ajective you're searching for is "accosted". My husband and I experienced similar harassment on a beach in Mexico ( I can't remember which one now; it's been about 20 years). We would be laying on our beach towel and a shadow would pass over our face; we'd look up and some fellow was trying to sell us jewelry!!! GADS!!!
I have to ask - have either of you had upset stomachs along the trip? I’m so sensitive to foods and different bacteria in certain countries and wonder how other people’s stomachs do. I envy those with strong stomachs!
Nancy, here, I was sick only one time due to seasickness when we were in the Drake passage. Both Mike and I have never been sick on this cruise due to any food we have eaten. Thank goodness!
Puto in the Philippines isn't a curse word, it's not even related to that Spanish word... it's a rice cake which is related to other similar rice cakes in Southeast Asia, such as Putu in Indonesia and Puttu in India.
There's lots of reasons, one is that a lot of the audio that gets recorded has so much background noise it has to be had to leave edited, another is TH-cam is very particular about copyright infringement if there's any background music playing it could lead to a copyright strike and then we have to redo the whole video. So that's why we mostly do voiceovers, and you'll see other channels such as Emma cruises doing the same thing
I got a lot of that hounding in Mexico. i did feel unsafe and will never return. Was their a horse in the tricycle ahead of you???So glad Im a vegetarian.Yuck!!!I had to fast forward thru eatting that poor bird.
Not uncommon in many places as they're trying to sell their wares. As we've decided they're just trying to make a living and we can always just say no. But it can be a little uncomfortable.
I had dog. They didn't tell me what it was until after. It didn't taste bad but I was disgusted- more of a mental thing. I never want to eat that again. I also had balut. I also never want to eat that again. I had some that were bad.
That would be hard for us as well. I don’t think I could do it and this is Nancy speaking. However, we were just in Germany and ate some thing. We didn’t know what it was until after we ate it. 😬That video will be out in about three months.
A food tour is our first event when traveling. A fantastic way to get to know the area and the people. More that just food.
We agree 100%. We also love to just go to local grocery stores. Seeing people in there and what they buy helps you understand the local culture as well

GADS!!!
You are correct, we've had that happen to Mexico as well but just never to the level we had it there. It was incessant !
🥰
🥰
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
🥰
i love to try new things but hold the eggs lol
Yes, Nancy here. I will never eat one of those again. It wasn’t bad as far as taste, but just the thought was difficult to stomach.
Did you get sick after all of that? I hope not.
No, none of us got sick. Thankfully.😉
Cheese like ricotta? I can see that as its also in cheesecake.
Not really more of a mozzarella
I'm a picky eater and had to turn my head away from the screen when you were munching on the balute. I like Filipino food such as adobo and lumpia.
Those are great foods. But I don't think I'll be going back for more balut. 😅
Agree with your statement. I’m a. I’ll try anything that doesn’t try me 1st
We love that!👍🏻
The only thing I would have eaten is the banana definitely pass on that tour yuck but glad you enjoyed it though
We had a friend who's not that adventurous of an eater but she came along and did pretty good on this tour. 😋
@@livingphase2 Amazing!! Happy for you both!
How did you find local tour guides through WhatsApp?
We do research on the Internet, searching for local guides and then connect with them through WhatsApp.
Puto in the Philippines isn't a curse word, it's not even related to that Spanish word... it's a rice cake which is related to other similar rice cakes in Southeast Asia, such as Putu in Indonesia and Puttu in India.
Puto wasn’t the word.😉
Why didnt you just use the audio in the original videos?
There's lots of reasons, one is that a lot of the audio that gets recorded has so much background noise it has to be had to leave edited, another is TH-cam is very particular about copyright infringement if there's any background music playing it could lead to a copyright strike and then we have to redo the whole video. So that's why we mostly do voiceovers, and you'll see other channels such as Emma cruises doing the same thing
No food tours for me! I would be vomiting for days.
🤢
I was with you until chicken embryo 🤢😵💫
🤣🤣🤣
Not me no way would I try that food.
It certainly isn’t for everyone.😁
