Beautiful isn't it - and still, after so many listens, it brings me to tears. I enjoyed Katiy Perry's version also, but this, well, the emotion in it from all 5 of them, just elevates it.
scott and mario jose have an incredible performance of 'lost on you' that really amazes. both singing full out. i love your little video cleps, so creative.
They sang this as an anthem for the LGBTQI community after the Pulse Nightclub Shooting. Superfruit was “formed” while the 2 were roommates after winning the show. They have some beautiful songs from that era they created together. When they became more successful and could afford their own places was the beginning of the end for Superfruit 😢.
I love SUPERFRUIT! They’ve put out two EPs (so basically one full album), if you’d like to hear Scott and Mitch embrace their inner Prince, my favorite song of theirs is “Guy.EXE” (it’s a fun video too). “The Promise” is also very good; all of their songs are good!
This one is so powerful, I know others have told you the impetus for this beautiful collaboration. Sorrow mixed with the triumph of the human spirit ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I agree with choosing this version over the original. The lyrics are amazing by Katy but the meaning that Superfruit put these words to are deeply, deeply meaningful! Wonderful reaction. You felt it all. I cry every time I hear it.
Thank you so much 😊 Welcome to VMC! The majority of the videos are best practices, research based info to help people care for their pets as best as is possible. But, once a month or so, I do a video like this one as a break for myself and for everyone else as well!
Definitely the right song for a mental health break! My husband killed himself last February, and I first discovered Pentatonix last September; they've made the grieving easier. So when I found out they were going to perform in Denver on November 20 of last year I immediately went online and bought tickets for a friend and myself. I could only afford the nosebleed seats, but it didn't matter; we were going to a Pentatonix concert and we were going to have fun! Then on November 19th a man wielding an assault rifle walked into Club Q, a Queer nightclub in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles south of my home west of Denver, intent on reproducing the horror of the Pulse massacre. This time we got lucky. This time one of the people there saw people he loved being killed and ran *toward* the danger, and against all odds he managed to take down the gunman, using only his bare hands and his own body weight. Because of him, this time we "only" lost five. One was the mother of an 11 year old girl. 😢 At least two were killed while trying to protect others - most heroes don't live long enough to tell us that they weren't "really" heroes, the way the man who took down the gunman did. That was on the 19th. I first heard about it while sitting in my seat at the Ball Arena on the 20th, checking email on my phone while waiting for Pentatonix to come on stage, and it hit me hard. It suddenly brought back all the losses of gay friends over the years, to AIDS, suicide, simple old age and heart failure, everything, all of them old griefs, long since dealt with, suddenly fresh and new, on top of the grief of my husband's loss. Yes, it was a good concert, but it wasn't as much fun as I'd expected, because of this new atrocity. And I woke up on the 21st with a deep need to revisit SuperFruit's rendition of "Rise." It's such a powerful song, about affirming one's self, and defying the odds, and hope for the future - it was exactly what I needed right then, and it continues to be. I was still listening to "Rise" that Thursday, my first Thanksgiving without my husband. And a month later it got me through my first Christmas without my husband. And in January my first birthday without him. And in February the first anniversary of his death. I've downloaded it and put it on my mp3 player so I can listen to it whenever I need it, which is frequently. I expect that it will still be on my personal playlist thirty years from now, when I die of old age.
I am so very sorry to hear about your loss 💔 I really appreciate you sharing all of this. Music is so incredibly powerful, and I'm so glad you found PTX. Their music also gets me through some awful times, and I am grateful we have the music! I hope that you have a circle of supportive people who are caring for you as you go through all of this grief 💜
@@VetMedCorner Thank you for asking. I've been told (and I firmly believe) that the best predictor of whether a person will live more than a year or two after being widowed is the quality of the supportive community they have. I've been very fortunate in my friends. I'm a filker ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filk_music ), and some of the kindest and most loving people I've ever met are members of my local filk group. (They're also incredibly good musicians, unlike me, but that's neither here nor there.) When I had a minor single car accident and managed to drive my car to my mechanic's shop, just before closing, an emergency call to one of these friends got me an immediate ride home, with a stop at the grocery store on the way, as well as a much-needed hug and a shoulder to cry on. They'll be taking me to an appointment next month for outpatient surgery as well (since doctors seem to think that it's a bad idea to try to drive when you're still under the influence of twilight sleep or whatever they call it). I can't tell you how much it means to me to know that they're there for me, especially since my brothers both live thousands of miles away from me. It is primarily because of my friends that I fully expect to live out my natural life span, and to enjoy doing so.
i have made it here finally, scott and mitch have been singing together since they were kids, but started superfruit in 2013 when they were roommates after winning the singoff and would put out fun vlogs and challenges and the occasional musical episode, they put out their first (and sadly only) original album in 2017, really good btw, but since they grew up of course, they moved out, life happens, theyre busy with ptx, so they havent posted since 2019, really sad they dont post but a fun rabbit hole to go down! looking forward to more
Didn’t they do such a good job? Such power, conviction and defiance in the face of murder and hate and adversity … and the final phrase by Mary Lambert is just heart-rending. Everything by Superfruit is worth hearing, but Guy.Exe, Imaginary Parties and Vacation have been my favorites lately. Scott and Mitch are so fabulous, together and singly. Loved your reaction, as always, so thoughtful about the music and the performance. Thanks. (Love the kitty too.) Peace …
Love the power of this version of the song. Truly makes me feel like I can overcome any obstacle. I was feeling a bit down, but this song lifted me up a bit. Thank you!
Your description is an excellent one - that's how I felt too. I hope that you are able to spend some time doing something that fills your cup this weekend 💜 take care of yourself
Superfruit was the creation of Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi, giving them an outlet to do their own thing outside of PTX. They were active from 2013 to 2019. Both have done solo work since then. This recording of Rise was made by these five members of the LGBTQ+ community as a response to the June 2016 Pulse Nightclub mass murders in Orlando, FL.
Ben Bram was playing the piano for them. Remember that Mitch and Scott are both gay, so they felt a deep need to respond to the Pulse massacre, and got three friends to help them. Brian, Mario, and Mary are also all members of the LGBTQ+ community. The five of them are speaking both to and for their community in the face of deadly prejudice. But they're also singing for their fans, and for allies of the LGBTQ+ community. Read the full description, which basically dedicates this song to anyone who cares about people, without bigotry. Believe it or not, Pentatonix is not the only band (or even the first band) to have a wall of sound; not even the term originated with them. It's perfectly okay to recognize it for what it is, regardless of who is doing it.
I really appreciate all this info - thank you 😊 I'm so glad that these 5 got together to do this song, it's so powerful, and I can't stop listening to it!
I love Superfruit. It is normally stripped back with just a piano accompaniment, apparently done by Scott. He is excellent how he gets the piano to serve the music. Their medleys are brilliant, such as The Evolution Of Lady Gaga, Beyonce or the Empire Medley. One warning: Superfruit normally have bloopers. If you see 'subscribe', keep playing for the bloopers. They are often hilarious. In particular with their Frozen Medley featuring Kirsty. If you miss the bloopers you are also guaranteed feedback - this mistake is often done by new Superfruit reactors.
Scott and Mitch can both play piano, Scott generally plays in performances, but Mitch sometimes does too, like in Mitchs cover of Your Power. Lovely reaction.
The piano is being played by PTX'S co-arranger co-producer Ben Bram. The song was performed by members of the Los Angeles LGBTQ community to honor the lives lost at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
This is an excellent topic! Thank you so much for the suggestion, I certainly should do a video on it. If your GP veterinarian has done what they can, definitely consider seeing a veterinary internal medicine specialist for additional help.
Superfruit was started because Scott and Mitch (who were roomates at the time) wanted to play around with content they couldn't with Pentatonix. Partially due to Kevin's religious views, PTX stays very clean in content. It was started as more of a vlog but expanded to fun content, music, and comedy. It is now ended - I think because Scott moved in with his fiance a few years ago.

I looked for this information and did not see it,I'm surprised usually at least 10 people have said it by the time I find the video. Everyone in this video is a member of the LGBTQ community, this song was done in response to the Pulse Night Club shooting where I think 50 people lost their lives. 😪 That explains a lot of what this video is. If you thought it was powerful the first time, listen again knowing what it means. This old man cries, shouts for joy, and several other emotions all at once.
