how can we calculate the gather,suppose we nedd 10" gather,so how to calculate how much fbric required,is ther any way to know how much the footh gathers?
still confused,i wanted to know how much is the farbric gatherd by the gathering foot,is there any calculation or its random,suppose we have 20 inch long stip and we nee to gather it n bring it to 8 inch,so if we gather by gathering foot will it automaticall gather 20 inch to 8 inch or is there any calculation or technique or anything with the foot.
20 inch strip will be able to gather up to 8 inches. Play around with the needle tension to increase/decrease fullness in the gathers, the sewing machines are more or less accurate, but as I say it will also depend on your fabric. Thank you for commenting Santam Tamrakar.
I hate gathering so this would come in handy. Do you know what the ratio of gathers is to the flat fabric:the gathered fabric being twice the length of the flat?? Thanks ^__^

Melly Patrice Always start with around double your fabric. It all depends on what type of gathers you need really.
Is that a bernina 807? It looks very much like mine, and it is near impossible to find tutorials for it.
