    Hmmm.... To me a culture is a way of living, which includes the way you put food on your table, the way you put roof over your head, the way you treat your neighbours. From what I have heard here, I hear that for me, being not of Maori descent, I would be suppressed in my rights if I was living under Maori rule. My choices would be restricted when my Maori neighbours choices would be unrestricted. Am I getting it right, or have I missed something?

    • @michellemarino63
      @michellemarino63 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Some Pakeha bring up the Moriori korero, probably to validate their existence or reasons for being in Aotearoa and why the British did what they did. Moriori are related to Maori of Polynesian origins, just as Europeans have fought & killed each other. Nothing in the world validates wars regardless, no matter where you come from. In NZ, who is the oppressor & the oppressed, if so one day, this situation may reverse. Do we want this to happen? If not, it is time for change since the kaupapa is about te Tiriti/Treaty. Nga Tamatoa advocated in the 1970s and believed the Treaty to be a fraud due to the differences between the te reo & English versions relating to land rights, inequalities involving the treatment of Maori and that the Crown (NZ Govt) had breached their trust under te Tiriti. Mainstream don't realise, Nga Tamatoa’s activism contributed to Tiriti/Treaty recognition and redress and led to the establishment of the Waitangi Tribunal in 1975.
      Furthermore, the 'te reo' version preceded the English version therefore the second founding constitution, furthermore there is a close relationship with the first constitution he Whakaputanga the 'te reo' version in 1835. Kawanatanga refuse to change the balance of power. Tino Rangatiratanga partner won't give up the fight knowing our tupuna ensured that the next generations lands, waters etc were protected. by establishing both constitutions. Aroha mai, seek the truth and you will be enlightened, protect the lies & you will falter. I belong to many hapu and we are adamant and believe implicitly that we did not cede our sovereignty, Article 3 of he Wakaputanga, Article 2 of te Tiriti te reo version & the Waitangi Tribunal stated iwi did not cede their sovereignty. It is time! Au, Au, Au e ha!

    As a kiwi with maori heritage ive lived for 64 years without the treaty and quite happy to see my life out without it. I have watched my people become slaves to Iwi, only because they themselves have become slaves to a political system that rewards a few.
    The human story is universal, every man and woman regardless of who and where they are, are conceived and born in the same way.
    When you interfere with the story of man kind, in a way that destroys human life, karma will come back to eat you.
    When Maori in the last 10 years supported there own destruction of wahine, to allow men to invade the space of a wahine, to allow our tamariki to be sexualised, and the worst, to allow a baby to die in a botched late term abortion without medical assistance, that was it for me. Maori sold there soul to the devil.

    Before you can have this conversation, you need to actually define what the treaty means. because as it is you’re just making up stories. Just like you made up the meaning of Taonga. A Taonga is not a woven cloak. Unless it was stolen. Taonga means property which is acquired by the spear. It doesn’t mean treasure. Then you call New Zealand “Aorearoa” whilst asking- how do we honor the treaty? There was no name for the whole country. It was called Niu Terini in both the confederate declaration and treaty. If you are inaccurate about such basic things, what else? The best way to honor the treaty is not misinform people.
    Honoring the treaty does not change over time. That would be presentism and half the problem we face. Presentism and revisionism. Honor the treaty. Honor the signatories that ceded sovereignty to create one people. One nation.

      @@leshart2604 This is plainly false as we have letters to the crown saying they ceded sovereignty. They shook hands to the pledge, "We are one people".
      The practice of slavery, cannibalism, tribal war which was all part of Maori Tikanga and chiefly domain was ended and outlawed by the crown and treaty. If the chiefs did not cede they would have continued slavery.
      We also have the Kohimarama conference.
      After the treaty signing tino rangatiratanga was only referred to in relation to Crown representatives, I think up til the end of the 1950's.

      1# many Maori chiefs had the basics of English or had advisors who did
