I grew up on this kind of stuff, and I love seeing the reactions of those who have never seen it. Unfortunately, most of it could not be made today.

A very squirrely reaction 🐹🐿⛪! Mississippi Squirrel Revival was released as the second single off of Ray Stevens' 1984 album: He Thinks He's Ray Stevens. It was written by Cyrus "Buddy" Kalb and Carlene Kalband. It was produced by Ray Stevens. The song reached #20 on the Country chart. Originally, "Mississippi Squirrel Revival" was not intended to be a single, but it was rush-released when various radio stations began playing it. The music video for the song was filmed in 1992 and released on Ray Stevens Comedy Video Classics. Ray Stevens has some really funny videos 😭😆🤣. I mostly remember him from when he used to come on the CBS Country music variety television show: Hee Haw, doing funny comedy skits and the like.
A young boy visiting relatives in Pascagoula, Mississippi catches a wild squirrel, which he sneaks into the First Self-Righteous Church during a Sunday service. When the squirrel escapes his box, it heads into the overalls of one of the other parishioners, who jumps in shock and discomfort (thinking "he had a Weed Eater loose in his Fruit of the Looms"). The rest of the congregation believe he has been possessed, either by a demon 🧟‍♀or by the Holy Ghost 👻; it is implied that the pastor is inclined to believe it is the latter. In the front pew, "Sister Bertha Better-N-You," a holier-than-thou parishioner who had been watching the previous incident "with sadistic glee," panics when the squirrel suddenly runs into her dress. In terror, she breaks down in tears and commences confessing all of her sins, including "naming names" of paramours that bring embarrassment to the whole church. Following the ordeal, the church experiences a sudden renewal-revival and a wave of baptisms, rededications, increased tithes, and volunteers to go on foreign missions. The now-adult singer reflects on the incident as an example of one of God's miracles.
    Ray Stevens Info 📰:
Harold Ray Ragsdale was born on January 24, 1939 in Clarkdale, Georgia. he is a Country and Pop singer-songwriter and comedian, known for his Grammy-winning recordings: "Everything Is Beautiful" and "Misty", as well as novelty hit songs including: "Gitarzan" and "The Streak". Ray Stevens has received gold albums for his music sales and has worked as a producer, music arranger and television host. He is also an inductee of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the Christian Music Hall of Fame, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
While attending high school, Ray Stevens formed his first band, a R&B Blues group named "The Barons". Following his high school graduation, Ray Stevens enrolled in Georgia State University as a music major. At age 18, Ray Stevens signed to Capitol Records' Prep Records division in 1957, and produced the single: "Silver Bracelet", with a cover of the song: "Rang Tang Ding Dong", as the B-side. The single was met with a positive review from Billboard. The B-side was originally recorded by doo-wop group The Cellos in 1956. Ray Stevens signed with Mercury Records in 1961.
In the 1970s, Ray Stevens became a music producer and studio musician in Nashville, Tennessee. He recorded songs for Barnaby Records and Warner Brothers during 1970-79. Ray Stevens' biggest hit in the US was his Gospel-inflected single: "Everything Is Beautiful" (1970). The single won a Grammy Award, was the theme song for his summer 1970 TV show, hit number one on both the Pop and Adult-Contemporary music charts, and marked his first time in the Top 40 on the Country charts, peaking at number 39. It sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc.
Ray Stevens had a transatlantic chart-topping hit in 1974 with his song: "The Streak", a novelty song about streaking that reached number one on the American and British singles charts.
Through the late 1970s and early 1980s, with some exceptions such as the song: "Shriner's Convention" (1981), Ray Stevens focused mostly on serious music material, as he felt that the novelty song was becoming less popular in the era. Ray Stevens had an adult contemporary crossover hit in 1979 with the song: "I Need Your Help Barry Manilow", a cut from Ray Stevens' Barry Manilow tribute/parody album: The Feeling's Not Right Again.
Ray Stevens then joined MCA Records in 1984. Feeling that novelty songs were becoming popular again, he authorized the rush release of the song: "Mississippi Squirrel Revival" (1984), which reached the Country top 20. In 1985 he performed at the Lanierland Music Park in Georgia with Pinkard & Bowden.
In February 2002, following the September 11 attacks, Ray Stevens released the song: "Osama Yo' Mama", as a single in late 2001, peaked at #48 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 2001. The album: "Osama Yo' Mama: The Album", reached #29 on the US Top Country Albums chart.
In April 2010, Ray Stevens released his project: We The People, a CD/DVD of political songs. This album reached Top-5 on the Billboard Comedy Album chart.
RAY-ality TV ended its digital TV run in January 2014. In March 2014, a webisode series, also titled: Rayality TV was launched. In 2014, Ray Stevens co-starred in the movie: Campin' Buddies.
Ray Stevens published his autobiographical memoir "Ray Stevens' Nashville" in 2014.
In 2015, Ray Stevens began producing and hosting the show: Ray Stevens Nashville, a 30-minute weekly music variety show on cable TV. Since then, the show has been rebranded as: Ray Stevens CabaRay Nashville, and is now filmed on stage at his own CabaRay Showroom, which opened to the public in early 2018. The show currently airs on PBS public television stations around the country.
Ray Stevens continues to release albums into the 2020s. Ray Stevens still performs live on stage with his fabulous A-Team Band in 2023.

Fun Fact 🕵: Ray Stevens was inspired to write the song: The Streak, after reading an article about streaking, which was a current fad among American college students where they would run around naked in public. Five days after this was released, one of the most high-profile streaks took place at the Academy Awards, when advertising executive Robert Opel streaked past David Niven on live TV. This added to the public's fascination with streaking and helped make the song a huge hit.
