I recommend you take out Davrin and Emmrich at some point for the banter. They're so funny together. Also I love that line in Ghilan'nain's letter to Solas about the halla. "I could not make them now." I like that it shows she had some self awareness about what she had lost and what she was becoming.
I'm glad I chose grey warden it has come up a lot in conversations and general dialogue. Even small things like Rook saying they feel the blight before seeing it in D'meta Crossing.
@@XeakquhI’m approaching the end of my second playthrough and initially I tried a different background but ended up missing the grey warden feeling so much I deleted that save and switched to grey warden again. It definitely had a good chunk of faction dialogue as opposed to others. Mourn Watch is probably the only other one I’d try again when I replay it in a few years.
My first playthrough was as a Crow and that had some nice specific dialogue, but picking Warden for my second playthrough was a great decision. Lots of specific chats and a good angle on some key plot tracks.
I remember those griffon rocking horse things - they're what Blackwall used to be carving when the Inquisitor would go visit him in the barn. I wasn't sure if that was placed there for that purpose or not, but I thought it was a nice little callback.
from this point on story missions are just amazing o me before this it's kind of slow, and it picks up a lot here kind of the opposite feeling to bg3 where i feel like first two acts are amazing but last act is lacking something (though i do love specific quests like astarion, raph's etc. are the standouts) veilguard is slow going but get better and better as it goes but i think a lot of of people who complain didn't make it to that point not saying the game doesn't have flaws, it does as i would say every dragon age game does (hell, me3 is my favorite game and i hate the endings but the journey was so good top tier for me) but the missions are just so fun and epic from here on out (besides neve's, that's the only one i didn't like but it may be because i had her hardened so)
Yeah Grey Wardens basically ARE Dragon Age to me, so it's hard not to be biased towards that content. Glad you found Dorian in the Shadow Dragons hideout, he's so easy to miss back there. There's some banter with Harding and Emmrich that goes into a bit more about how they know each other, it's really cute. I'm also quite impressed with the amount of companion dialogue! It felt odd at first not being able to just chat with them and exhaust their whole dialogue tree at once lol but this way is ok too.
You should go back and explore the island with all the snow that has the eluvian that goes to the wetlands in the crossroads. I don't want to spoil it for you, but there's something new there now to check out.
Good ol' Amarell, always the first time you get the "leaving the combat area" message and messing up the fight flow. They should've given it a bigger area, for sure.
I agree that the environmental diversity in this game is great, and I really felt like the exploration and the traversal was very active and fun even if it's a little gamey at time in its design. I am also a big fan of how the sidequest design tells stories of locations and factions. Until I watched your playthrough of Inquisition, I never really took in the amazing environmental design of that game, and I think Veilguard is one of BioWare's better games in terms of pure environmental storytelling. Definitely exciting stuff upcoming that I am sure you'll appreciate!
Probably has more to do with people who didn't play it because of the real world politics surrounding it and complaints of it not looking like dark fantasy
Here is where things seem to get confusing. Traditionally, only Grey Wardens have been able to strike down archdemons, and the effect was mutual death. The explanation was a little vague, as far as I remember, but Wardens, by virtue of their connection, were somehow able to destroy the "souls" of archdemons, which we understood to be the souls of elven gods. However, Morrigan figured out some ritual to circumvent that sacrifice. Instead, Kieran ended up absorbing the soul of the archdemon. Thus, he was known to have possessed the soul of an elven god, which is why Flemeth was so interested in him in Inquisition. She ends up removing this soul, and presumably, it ends up with Solas. But here, we learn that archdemons were never actually elven gods, just weapons that contained the gods' immortality, much like Seath the Scaleless and his crystal. Destroy the crystal, and he becomes vulnerable. So, if archdemons did not have elven god souls, what was it that Kieran had? Why is it that only Wardens could kill these weapons? The only explanation I have is that archdemons must have been like horcruxes from Harry Potter. They actually did contain pieces of the gods' souls, and this had to be destroyed to impact the gods themselves. For some reason, Solas did not describe it in such a way. Also, this raises the issue of where the other gods have gone. If the archdemons are merely weapons, then they would still be alive, just no longer invulnerable. Therefore, other blights could be possible. Perhaps there is something I am missing, so I would enjoy it if someone explained it.
When getting all this lore explained, I'm confused where the whole "butchering of lore" comes in? What lore is that exactly, what part is it that doesn't make sense? So far, I've heard nothing.
Nice got the wetlands now as well i expect if DAO is ever remade we will see alot of lothering and other blighted villages would have very similiar aesthetics in the remake/remaster. Haunting indeed.
Warden stuff is my favorite stuff in this game, it's why I picked Warden in my 2nd playthrough. Can't wait for you to get through all of it, including the upcoming Siege of Weisshaupt!
Wanted to start sort of neutral but with an adventurous spirit so I went with lords of fortune, wish there were more banter about it or my Rook, some neat options but not much yet Might have rushed to Weisshaupt too quickly, not sure
i lucked out picking elf so while there wasn't as much LOF options, i get more race mage has some more too it's basically 1: elf 2: dwarf 3: qunari 4: human (i THINK i'm not sure i just know qunari and human have the least, and i have not come across any human dialogue in my human playthrough this time so far so i'm assuming it's last or next to last) for LOF you get good dialogue with antoine and evka (sp?) and some w/ taash but i didn't see much more outside of that so i got lucky having and elf but unlucky with LOF mapos got lucky having mourn watch but unlucky with having qunari with not as much dialogue options you win and lose some
@@nightfrost1891 I guess, mine is a Qunari mage so I thought it would double up the options, but me being a mage doesn’t seem that important either? As Qunari just a few passing comments in Treviso and Minrathous, still Mythal and the others talk of Qunari
hey mapo, i've been watching your videos for a few years now and i really wanted to see you play a game called enigma of fear, i think you should at least check it out, its great

In my first playthrough I chose Grey Warden too because it makes a lot of sense
I played Grey Warden too
It was amazing the amount of Warden interaction
You missed out on the biggest Solas manipulation. He will literally only accept "whatever is necessary" as an answer during that dialogue
Evka & Antoine are the best part of this game

Yup with you with the lack of people interacting with Manfred and Assan.
I really like the Hossberg Wetlands, and I definitely agree with Mapo that it reminds me of Crestwood in DAI.

And this game wasnt even nominated for best art!!
i think a big reason is just it was just a late addition that most people didn't finish playing it by times noms came out which is unfortunate
@ I doubt that because two years ago GoW Ragnarok came out the same time as well but sweeped most of the awards
Probably has more to do with people who didn't play it because of the real world politics surrounding it and complaints of it not looking like dark fantasy
As with everything in this game, consistency is the issue. Are there great parts? Sure.
But then you have the new design of dark spawn...
Yes I really thought it would at least get a nomination for Art. Despite its problematic outcome, it totally deserved it, in that aspect.

So Emmrich taught Dorian necromancy
I'm sorry but Solas Welsh accent is so hot 🔥

Yes that IS HAWKE'S VOICE!!
Can I ask that you address that veloseraptor that's there in the hossberg wetlands. Not an enemy but you can get a decent look through photo mode

I’m honestly surprised he’s still playing this awful game
Why? He's clearly having a good time playing it.
Why? He goes in with an open-mind. Beyond that, it’s more DA lore (glorious!) It’s also possible to enjoy a game and have legitimate criticisms

It’s not that bad from a gameplay standpoint it’s horrendous if you look deeply at it
