    I started this hobby about 4 years ago while following almost all Astro TH-camrs. Some come and go, and I fully understand the reasons, as I also have my own full time work during the day time. Your hard-working content is really stunning and made of great quality. I wish you will not burn out and looking forward to your upcoming contents.

    This is truly one of the most interesting, informative, and well produced videos I have seen on TH-cam. Your captures are beautiful. I am a 69 year old retired mental health nurse. I finally have the free time to explore astronomy and astrophotography. Thank you for posting this very inspirational video.

    Hallo Tim, I found your channel when your video about the mineral moon appeared in my search. Loved the video, bookmarked it and today I am back watching the Beginner's Guide vid. The quality of your videos is outstanding and I find them to be jam packed with useful information - at least for me as sbdy. who never photographed any sky object other than the moon. Having said that I find it particulary helpful that you put other space objects size in relation to a full moon. At this point I realised that at least some of this could be sth. that I could try to photograph with my camera gear, too.
    I am conviced that your channel will grow considerably. Keep up the excellent quality and the audience will follow. If I may add one (selfish) wish: don't speed up frequency or number of your videos over quality. IMHO A longer interval between videos with great content is better than weekly updates that start out great, but get boring within one year after the creator found out at that as a human he cannot simply squeeze his brains to spit out new ideas each and every week (what's in my bag, why you need this particular product...) and eventually end up as some home shopping channel with 500k of subscribers and 8k views per video only.
    Thank you for the videos and I wish you always clear skies. Best regards, Andreas

      Hi Andreas, Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment! I’m really glad to hear that you enjoyed the Mineral Moon video and found the Beginner’s Guide helpful-especially the size comparisons, which are one of my favorite ways to make space feel a bit more approachable.
      I truly appreciate your encouragement and feedback about the balance between quality and frequency. It’s something I think about a lot-wanting to keep each video packed with valuable information while also considering the need to grow the channel. I’m in a bit of a dilemma: I want to maintain the high quality that viewers like you enjoy, but I also know that more frequent uploads could help the channel reach more people.
      Right now, I’m focusing on putting my heart into each video, taking the time to research and create something I’m proud of, even if it means posting less often. Your support and understanding of that balance means a lot to me. I’ll do my best to keep the quality high, and I hope you’ll continue to enjoy what’s to come.
      Wishing you clear skies and many great captures ahead!

    This couldn't have come at a better time. Very few clear nights make it a challenge to be efficient with given gear. This helped greatly with tools to make my nights more beneficial. Like realizing the witches head, isn't worth pursuing in urban light pollution. Others said the same things, but your examples summed it all up, and clarified alot. Thanks!
    I'll be diving into your channel further.

      Thanks for your kind words. I also hope more people interested in astrophotography will find the video. But right now, it looks like it's dwindling away. It's a pity because I consider the content "must-have knowledge" for everyone doing astrophotography. May I ask what made you click on the video?

      @@CosmicCaptures I am a novice astro-P and watch a lot of content to learn, so the YT search algorithm suggested your video and the title was exactly the kind of content I need. I hope you are able to continue to publish, your experience as a professional filmmaker definitely shows and is much appreciated!

      I'm thrilled that you like the video 😃.
      The book that I show in the beginning is called: "Astronomy Photographer of the Year" - Collection 12. It's published by the Royal Observatory Greenwich in the UK. They publish a new book with the year's best astrophotography every year. Their books are a great source of inspiration for everyone doing astrophotography.

    I lost interest when a veteran engineer in astronomy told me that photos in space are taken in monochrome, and that the amazing colours come from post-production. He took classes from someone involved in the cameras of Hubble, and built several telescopes at a prominent observatory.

    • @CosmicCaptures
      @CosmicCaptures  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      When we image in broadband, we use colour filters in front of the monochrome cameras to capture colour data. Then, we combine the monochrome data from the red, green and blue filters into an RGB image. We can even calibrate the resulting colour files with data from reference star catalogue data. This way, we can capture and process pretty accurate colour images of space objects. In this case, the colours are real, and we enhance them through post-processing. When we do broadband imaging, we sometimes tweak the colours, but we don't just paint or colourize black and white images.
      Narrowband is a different story. There we assign the data from specific wavelengths to colours. For example, Halpha is assigned to green, Oxygen to blue and Sulphur to red. The goal is to create an image showing where the specific elements emit light. When we do narrowband imaging, we often take more creative liberty in assigning and balancing the individual colour channels.

      @davegski 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s helpful to remember that all digital color cameras use the process you mentioned - they have a monochrome sensor with an rgb filter array on top (Bayer matrix is a good search term to find info on this) and the colors are composed after the shot by a processing engine in the camera. Our eyes are one way of capturing and composing light, a camera is another. One is not more “true” than the other.

    • @earthling-fh2mg
      @earthling-fh2mg 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Then your veteran engineer has misled you somewhat. Any camera you use - even for normal daylight photos - take the photo with a monochrome sensor. Would you say the blue of the sky and the green of the grass weren’t the true colours?
