The bells are a cracking little six tonally, cast in 1910 by Gillett and Johnston of Croydon, replacing a previous ring by Mears & Stainbank of Whitechapel.
They are clear, twangy and punchy inside, although outside they seem a little lost in the huge tower! They handle very reasonably too - except for the whopping great unguided draught! Personally, I didn’t find them too flighty or tricky - although one did have to pull the handstroke firmly and the backstrokes straight to compensate for the length of rope! Some people coped better than others; however, the standard of ringing we produced here was excellent, and there wasn’t a single missed sally, which is excellent!

Rung Here!
Just after I started ringing I was invited to an outing here. I found them surprisingly easy to keep control of although I don’t think I’ll be back there in a hurry!
They're fine, if you handle them properly! I don't mind long draughts - they tend to be more predictable (albeit they look more daunting) than the really low ones (e.g. Ringmer!)
They look like my sort of bells Simon! 😝
Ha - you'd have the time of your life here!
Very different to east Grinstead isn't it?
Gillets. BEAUTIFUL.
How tragic that Bow got bombed during the war.
What the hell was Hitler thinking of?
He must have had a bad moustache day or Eva told him she had a headache.
I hated long draughts, I remember looking up at the ceiling of a ringing room one day and thinking OH CRAP, the americans are thinking of landing a man in the belfry, and no rope guides.
Similar to swallowfield you going to the roadshow in london
Afraid I'm not! I'm sorry to be missing it
Peculiar tower design🤔
Blimey, that was quick! Peculiar in terms of what - the positioning (on the South side of the church), yes, somewhat. A shame it doesn't have a heavier ring of bells really, it's a huge tower!
Yes the different size and shape buttresses and the positioning of the tower itself
theobellringer I was told that the church has a concrete rendering on it. That makes it look a bit green/gray ish colour
Oh okay, that’s why it’s a strange colour
