Garo (2005) was way ahead of it's time. These fight scenes still hold up 15 years later. The characters and the fights in Garo are why it's my favorite tokusatsu TV series.
I remember watching this when I was a freshman in college and being blown away by just how different it was from Kamen Rider. The tone, atmosphere, writing, and choreography was a revelation.
Garo series is pretty expensive to make at the time, the CGI was much much better than whatever is going on with Kamen Rider and their greenscreen shenanigans and there were barely any merchandises which led to the show going into hiatus for a few years.
hmm old garo series have better cgi and effect compared to new one. i mean look at garo : yami wo terasu mono released in 2013, they didn't even use the real suit. they relied 100% on cgi for suits and fight scenes.
Umm actually most of the stuff in this fight are wire stunts, the old garo stunt team kinda specialized in that. masaki onishi, who was in the garo suit literally became a wire stunt coordinator later in his career. Zero's suit actor, mark musashi, who also portrayed kodama, was trained in wushu and tricking, so I'm imagining wire stunts aren't that difficult for him either. The only cgi in this scene are the dancing swords when they left their hands
Interesting thought: a Makai Knight can only maintain their armor for 99.9 seconds at a time, so this whole sequence would need to be sped up by about 2.5 times to really get an idea of how fast these two are against each other.
I've stopped believing it's a simple matter of time, given that most fights seem to exceed that limit. I think it might refer to a percentage of will the user has before being taken over by the armor. I imagine you've gotta submit a tiny bit of will to even put on the armor, it _is_ made of makai metal, after all, so .1% percent to transform, 99.9% to fight. Whatever the case, longer armored fights are always a good thing in my book.
secretasianman108 the whole will to fight in a certain armor works out so much better than the time limit version of anything honestly. It just provides more character.
I actually tested this, and you're right , in 2 times speed the battle lasts like 127 seconds , I'm pretty sure that in 2.5 the battle would fit the 99 seconds

You right. They are two. Zero:Black Blood and Zero:Dragon blood. And in Dragon Blood Rei will become Lost Soul Wolf Beast and his armor will look like a fricking dragon. Awesome but bad. Lucky that Rekka a priestess will make him come back to normal

Garo is proof that Japan could actually have made a perfect Saint Seiya adaptation if it really wanted to, but in reality, we got one big crap from America that had Mackenyu and Sean Bean this year.
I think both Koga and Rei have at least a little knowledge of makai based magic. Heck Most of characters here can understand makai language when an order via mail arrives, its one of things the animation esp. the protagonist lacks of, and in case of live action its what Ryuga of ryugaverse lacks.

The anime are in entirely separate universes and change so many rules and elements, it's honestly... just not as good IMO.
Actually they can’t. The Makai Order mandates that regular humans lives not be taken. For all their neat transformations, a lot of Power Rangers are ordinary humans.
Because he fight carefully, since he see Rei as comrade, not enemy. But Rei has determintation to kill Kouga no matter what, due to misunderstanding. So there is mental handicap involved.

Like the others said. He's not. He thinks that Kouga killed Shizuka but she was killed by Barago. Later when he will find the truth he will help Kouga and eventually the two will become friends. Kouga even asked Rei to be his son master and teach him the Makai Knight way.

Nah to me it would take the appeal away. Practical effects have way more artistic value to me than CGI.

IIRC the killer had 90% similarity to Garo's armor design. And it's Zero's girlfriend.
