We just started to attend a nearby parish which has the Tridentine Mass on Sundays. Let me tell you, it's a much richer and spiritual experience than Mass in the ordinary. It will be hard to go back to the Novus Ordo if the Tridentine Mass is no longer available to us.

I am re-posting a comment made by the person who directed me here - who like me noted a significant error at about the 20 second mark. Apart from that, this is an excellent introductory video: "At about the 20 second mark, the priest says the Tridentine Mass or Extraordinary Form of the Mass is the Mass that was celebrated in the Catholic Church for over 400 years." ACTUALLY....the 1570 Tridentine Roman Missal is nearly identical to the Missal published in Rome a century earlier...And THAT older Missal differs only in regional-variant details from missals several centuries older. Most of the Proper texts and some of the Ordinary texts date from Pope Gregory the Great (c. AD 540-604). Changes subsequent to Pope Gregory - i.e. "organic development" - occurred only in rather small increments over the next 1,350 years, thereby always retaining a "hermeneutic of continuity." The Roman Canon, with its lists of early Roman martyrs, was composed no later than the 4th Century - and is quite likely from the 2nd Century (and probably originally in Greek)

Yes, the Latin Mass as a whole existed at least since the 6th century, if not before; however, as he did say "Tridentine Mass" (that is, the Mass of the Council of Trent), he is technically correct.

So called Tridentine Mass had been celebrated for more than 400 years before the Second Vatican Council. At the Council of Trent it was only codified. Elements of the mass are much older and very often are dated from the first millennium. I suggest one read Position Papers by Una Voce International.

On the one hand it’s great, but on the other if The Society of St Pius X hadn’t struggled since Vatican II to keep the Larin Mass alive, we wouldn’t have it. I assume one of the other parish church’s is SSPX’s St Thomas More. It must be doing well. Hopefully, there will soon be a need US and world-wide for the unchanged Tridentine Mass and the Vatican II Extraordinary Form. THAT would be a true blessing! Don’t forget to say 3 Hail Mary’s for your own parish priest(s)!

Oh my word... last time I heard the "Domine, non sum dignus" in Latin was for Christmas High Mass... so beautiful!
I did kind of have to laugh at ~2:40 when the Communicant responded "Amen" after the "Corpus Domini nostri Jesu Christi custodiat animam tuam in vitam aeternam. Amen", though.

The Tridentine Mass was 'fixed' in 1570. The Mass previously was very similar, but with national and regional variations The Papacy wanted the Mass celebrated in a uniform way without deviations and privately decided changes. There were modifications subsequently but nothing major until the 1960s. Why are some people so obsessed with this Mass as if it were the be-all-and-end all of worship in the RC Church? A mass celebrated in 600 A.D. looked a lot more similar to the Novus Ordo - free-standing altar, priest facing the congregation, fairly simple and straightforward without the Gallican additions of latter centuries . What is objectionable is Mass celebrated in a sloppy manner, The fiddle-back chasuble was introduced to facilitate movement - in the Tridentine Rite there are so many prescribed manual acts the Gothic style chasuble (actually a Roman raincoat in origin) got in the way so they cut the chasuble so no material would get in the way.

Personally I like both forms of the Roman rite. I just prefer the extraordinary form over the ordinary, but if there was a priest who celebrated the ordinary form and keep the latin traditions we have then that would be great. Plus mass in the vernacular is awesome.

Music provides a good background for videos whilst people are talking, and Gregorian chant is questionable in suitability for this video, since it is by nature Liturgical music. Furthermore, the piano music is hardly "modern" in style.

I don't understand why traditionalist priests seem to prefer the Roman or "fiddle back" chasuble to the earlier, full, Gothic one. Several centuries ago, chasubles worn by high ranking clergy became so heavily ornamented that priests had difficulty moving in them when saying Mass. Instead of simplifying them, the "solution" to the problem was to CUT AWAY THE SIDES, and the new "look" spread. The Roman chasuble is "traditional" NOW, but it was ironically born of a departure FROM tradition.

The Tridentine Mass is not the Holy Mass of all times. The idea of the Eucharist being the Church's sacrifice shows up in the late 2nd or early 3rd century and is merged with the idea of it being a memorial of Jesus's sacrifice (he is also understood to be present) - sooo the Mass is Memorial as Sacrifice -a liturgical representation of a Sacrifice once done but make present to us which we offer to God in union with the Christ himself (he is not sacrificed again - nobody ever taught this). People should learn some basic Eucharistic theology and liturgical history before trashing the various historical Rites of the RC Church.

The Catholic Mass was terribly diminished when the sacred beauty of the Latin Mass was dumped for the banal modern vernacular mass.
Occasionally I make the long drive to my closest Latin mass and every time I feel a sense of wonder and awe in our worship that I do not get from the modern mass.
The Latin mass and progressively builds up to a crescendo with the consecration of the bread and wine which is the essential purpose of the mass. The modern mass is a series of disparate readings punctuated by a droll recitation of petitions, unexciting chants that switch from traditional chants to dreary modern tunes.
By discarding the Latin mass, the church also discarded the ancient Kyrie Eleison in Greek that went back to the earliest church. Occasionally a modern church will use the Greek and every time is delightful surprise.
We can never know how much of the Catholic Church’s precipitous decline is due to the loss of this sense of sanctity of the mass. I do believe that if it has any hope of stopping and hopefully reversing the process of abandonment of the faith, restoring the Latin mass will play an important part.
The average age of Catholic priests in America today is over 70. The families at mass when I was young filled the churches. If you take an informal survey of the age of Sunday mass attendees today, they will be almost all senior citizens.
With demographics line this, the Catholic Church could collapse and disappear over the next 20 years.

Your personal interpretation -- as with all you 'self-saviors' in Protestant sects -- is no less valid than mine (or that taught by the Catholic Church), that in the Book of REvelation, John shares visions of the Catholic Church that has been infiltrated by modern evils (Protestant ecumenism) and thus Christ's Church has been bastardized in the 1960s by non-Catholic dialog and destruction of the Mass itself as well as Church leadership becoming so 'double-mouthed' and ambiguous in doctrine and guidance that His Church is now more a Protestant love fest and glorification of mankind rather than humble, obligatory worship of God.
