The singing intro was a dig at the TV show Glee. Community and Glee were in the same time slot when they originally aired. When Community wasn't getting the same audience as Glee, the executives told Harmon to change the show to be open to a wider audience. The intro was Dan Harmon's response.
The intro song was two things. 1) Jeff fantasizing about happy he will be with pierce gone from the group, and 2) a parody of the kind of show network executives wanted community to be. "Why can't it be happier, does it have to be so weird,"etc.
lmao you're SUPPOSED to cringe at the opening song, it's basically a summary of what the network wanted (a bubbly, happy little sitcom that doesn't take any risks and doesn't do anything weird or dark, uses movie star Ken Jeong (from the Hangover) for mainstream appeal, and moronically pairs the most attractive actors together regardless of character development and motivations), and an antithesis of what makes the show engaging and fun. Basically a "fuck you" from Dan Harmon to NBC execs, cleverly integrated into the plot as Jeff's daydream of a comically happy campus now that Pierce is gone.
"and moronically pairs the most attractive actors together" speak for yourself. To me Troy and Shirley are the most attractive actors, not Jeff and Annie
I love how the show paid homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey through Jeff's hallucination. It had the right amount of freakiness. And every season is a school year.
Each season is a year. Every season begins at the start of a new year in September, has a Christmas and ends when they go on summer break. How can you miss that?
Also missed that Jeff destroyed his phone and left it for the professor which is why he looks at it when he decides to kick Starburns out implying that Jeff would be back in the class.
Pierce gets hate because of how he acts. Some people only focus on the negative and can't see the whole picture of Pierce and all the good he does as well.
Love the show, love you guys. But please don't judge season 4 because people say it's bad. Yes the first 3 seasons are better than the next 3, but 4, 5 and 6 are all still so entertaining and there are some great episodes in these seasons
Season 4 is bad. They messed up with the characters personalities and development + most of the episodes are not funny at all. Season 5 and 6 are good tho
Each season is a year, the Christmas episode is always the midseason so the end of the first semester, so this is year 3 semester 1, but more importantly this is the year of Chang!!
Get melamine sponges instead That's what magic erasers are, and they're stupid cheap Just know it works as a mild abrasive. Fine for glass, but might scratch up acrylic idk. I don't use them on anything I wouldn't use metal tools on.
i know im 5 years late but every few episodes someone mentions the impending "bad season" and i wish people who suggest this show wouldnt include that. different season, sure. but hearing people say its bad bums me out cause its not.
I think Pierce is a very misunderstood character. He's kind of an asshole yes but he doesn't mean any harm. You have to remember that's he's an older guy and set is in his ways. He probably doesn't think some of the things he say are offensive. To be clear, I'm talking about the stuff he says when they're all just hanging around, because when pushed, he knows how to do damage. I guess this is the side of him that people mostly see. He's a very petty and vindictive man. This could be the result of his life thus far. As we can see he's not really the best business man out there, he was probably an underachiever most of his life. His father as we saw on the video tape of the Hawthorne Wipes commercial, didn't think much of him. I'm guessing this didn't change much as he grew older. He probably spent much of his life feeling unloved and alone. That's probably why he chose to enroll in Greendale, he's looking for something missing in his life. When he met the group, I bet he finally found what he wanted, and he's fighting as hard as he can to keep it, the way he knows how. The more his efforts seem to go unnoticed, the more he gets frustrated, and so he acts out. The group is understandably put-off by this and excludes him, which exacerbates Pierce's frustration. The group is not blameless in this. The fail to see that their friend needs help, they just chalk it up to Pierce being a huge asshole. Let's look at the dungeons and dragons episode. This is an episode where most will really hate Pierce. He was excluded once again because Jeff "assumed" he wouldn't be much help cheering Neal up. When he found out about it, Pierce really went out of his way to ruin the game for everyone. Pierce being an asshole, let's hate him forever right? Let's look at it more closely. Who did Pierce punish with the most in the game? Neal. He took his sword, he disrespected him, he raped his in-game family. Why Neal? He wasn't the one who excluded him. Why did Pierce hate him so much? It's because Pierce was jelous of him. The group took the time and effort to make this one day all about Neal while they forgot/ignored Pierce's birthday. They made so much effort to help Neal get over being called fat while all this time Pierce was suffering from pain killer addiction. Why so much effort for someone outside of the group and none/little for Pierce? Pierce is a man who is the way he is because of how life turned out for him. He has money but through his family but he never was "successful" in his career and everybody probably never let him forget that. He has 7 ex-wives and his ex-stepchildren avoid him, unless they need money. He lives in a house with a father that hates him, alone, as his mother just died. He probably had more hardships and endured more sorrow in life than the rest of the group combined. He's just trying to live the rest of his life with the people he loves. The group should be more sensitive of Pierce's needs instead of being apathetic, if they are truly his friends anyway.
Dr.Marshall Kane spent 6205 days studying. EXACTLY 17 years. I'm sure there's some reference there, but I don't watch enough TV/Movies to know. Where are Suraj and Micky when you need them
I still think it’s funny they brought up it was adapted from a British show because Mchale was in the American remake of the IT crowd and it flopped so bad viagra by the bucket couldn’t have given it a happy ending!
The singing intro was a dig at the TV show Glee. Community and Glee were in the same time slot when they originally aired. When Community wasn't getting the same audience as Glee, the executives told Harmon to change the show to be open to a wider audience. The intro was Dan Harmon's response.
damn, Dan Harmon is the kind of petty I aspire to be
The intro song was two things. 1) Jeff fantasizing about happy he will be with pierce gone from the group, and 2) a parody of the kind of show network executives wanted community to be. "Why can't it be happier, does it have to be so weird,"etc.
"That's the great thing about British TV, they give you closure" clearly Britta has never watched skins
Skins had a final season.
Or Utopia
lmao you're SUPPOSED to cringe at the opening song, it's basically a summary of what the network wanted (a bubbly, happy little sitcom that doesn't take any risks and doesn't do anything weird or dark, uses movie star Ken Jeong (from the Hangover) for mainstream appeal, and moronically pairs the most attractive actors together regardless of character development and motivations), and an antithesis of what makes the show engaging and fun. I kinda like the song
Sounds like a you problem.
Exactly.
"and moronically pairs the most attractive actors together" speak for yourself. To me Troy and Shirley are the most attractive actors, not Jeff and Annie
No Suraj? Homie don't dean this.
Happy I don't have to hear his laugh, but fuck...Pat? He's a fucking tool.
I don't care, there was sufficient manspreading in this video. Tight firm bodies. Very enjoyable.
At least we didn't have to suffer through Mickeys constant giggling.
@@Gam3Junkie blonde chick has the worst laugh
1 season is 1 year. They couldn’t be more clear.
They even say it in the opening song. Something about "the first two years combined".
I love how the show paid homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey through Jeff's hallucination. It had the right amount of freakiness. And every season is a school year.
finaly someone else who understand this reference
@@eviataretzion7529
I got it. 🤓
Each season is a year. Every season begins at the start of a new year in September, has a Christmas and ends when they go on summer break. How can you miss that?
I'm upset we didn't get to see Mickey and Suraj react to that meta opening song. I feel like the others didn't appreciate it enough
It ain't a Normies Community reaction without Suraj or Micky...
Seems like they missed the point of the song at the start, that being Jeff fantasising about how much better life will be without Pierce.
They probably thought it was weird that the fantasy was coming from Jeff's mind, since Jeff hates Glee and the Glee club more than anyone
@@bernardsoul5186 Jeff yelled at Glee to sing some original somgs tho so, maybe thats his problem and he liked having an original song.
@@silverkyre maybe
Also missed that Jeff destroyed his phone and left it for the professor which is why he looks at it when he decides to kick Starburns out implying that Jeff would be back in the class.
I love the "This is the kind of National Lampoonary" joke because Chevy and it's a dumb one and I love it
And he worked for National Lampoon’s Radio Hour!
Pierce hasn't ever done anything good? Are they forgetting the last episode they watched where he saved the school?
Pierce gets hate because of how he acts. Some people only focus on the negative and can't see the whole picture of Pierce and all the good he does as well.
Nah. He’s basically their resident villain. Their very own Magneto.
remember when he tried to drive a kid to suicide? those things equal each other out, doesn't make him good.
Personally, I think this is the best season.
And generally, it is.
How was it the best season ? That's when the show started to go downhill.
That was season 4.
Same here
@@depthsofabjection WHAT
joel mchales acting in this ep is so good
John Goodman getting in the Dean's face about the Espresso Machine is probably my favorite scene from this show's entire run
The amount of "Jeff Hate" in these reactions is way worse without Suraj and Mickey... Bring them back ASAP!!!
The opining was Dan's middle finger to the network's executives and their " Notes " 😂
Did y'all get the Stanley Kubrick references @11:37 and @13:41 ?
Normies wouldn't know who he is.
“2001” & “The Shining”!

Season 5 and 6 are good tho
4th season is my second favorite season
Season 4 is great
Season four is good. Just the writing is lacking.
I like every season. My biggest complaint about the last three is that they started only doing half as many episodes.
11:32 to 11:58 was a spoof of the trippy ending to the 1968 Sci-Fi blockbuster "2001: A Space Odyssey".
Season 3 was the best season
Still cant get over the fact that the dean actor is an oscar winner
I cant wait for the britta/chang episode, easily the funniest one of this season
I love John Goodman, he's simultaneously scary and hilarious.
Where is Suraj?
"Mans gotta have a code."
oh no doubt
Cannot wait for that episode
No Suraj and it feels like I am watching multi dimensional TV like Rick and Morty with P Dub being talkative.
I love how fucking powerful John Goodman is in this show. And as an actor in general.
Each season is a year, the Christmas episode is always the midseason so the end of the first semester, so this is year 3 semester 1, but more importantly this is the year of Chang!!
Here after he passed away, so sad
The dean was going for a Walter White look
Each season is a year. The episodes up to Christmas is the Fall semester and the following episodes are the Spring semester.
A rare gathering of Normies.... cool
Hay un gran tributo a DOCTOR WHO que es genial

6 seasons and a movie!
All that "No"ing at the start. Why? It was awesome!
So many things, But mostly, cute doggo you have!!
Love this episode.
You are the opposite of Batman 🦇
Season 3 is great. 4 is the “gas leak” year
Seriously That was Jeff's Fantasy before he knew Pierce was Back Pay Attention to the episode if your gonna talk about it
One of the top most underrated episodes of the show 😂
Woah Woah! Different group? Change scares me
if im not mistaken the intro song is making fun of what NBC wanted the show to become.
season 3 chang is so good
Wait...have you guys actually never seen 2001 space odessy?
You need to change your video information. This isn't the season 2 finale.
Hey it's you!
Hey Pat. ;)

wow, John Goodman lost a hell of a lot of weight in the last few years.
12:05 VAMPIRE!!!!
Maybe if you listened to the text you knew what the song was about.
Any thoughts on reacting to Hannibal?
This might be the best of Community. All those in favor?

Finally. 😁
12:05 Don't know why, but damn you have sharp ass teeth
Ah the wrong answers they gave to their own questions, the type of shit my main man Suraj would know

so, none of them have seen 2001...
no suraj or mickey? wtf?
The tall strawberry blond guy is very distracting to me...in a good way. Sorry lol. Love your reactions though! Love you Normies crew.
